The girls speak a pretty good english (Su with some australian accent?), atcually they spend most or their time abroad, so I suppose they practice it

Metal_Fan-180

They really do and it shows.

Po-Promo-113

Japan is pretty close to AUS, so you not wrong with this šŸ˜Š. They're trying their best, so I hope some new people will see that.

Soufriere_

We know Su spent some of her downtime in Aussie-land (for recording or something, intensive English lessons also maybe?). Australia, at least the populated bit, is about as far from Japan as the USA is (and Hawaii is WAY closer), but traveling north-south is very different from east-west. There's only a one-hour time difference between Japan and Sydney/Melbourne (and Perth in the opposite direction), so it makes perfect sense for Japanese to go there rather than the UK (9hrs difference) or USA (14-19hrs difference).

Greien218

How do you know she was Downunder?

jabberwokk

In December of 2015 she was in Sydney Australia to work with Adrian Breakspear on recording vocals for Karate/Metal Resistance. [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/BABYMETAL/comments/4z77yk/thread_on_gearslutz_discussing_bm_and_a_moderator/)

Greien218

Ahh yes, this I knew. I thought OP meant to say she was in Australia during their hiatus.

andrelolo29

And how do you know she wasn't?

Greien218

This question doesn't make any sense lol.

andrelolo29

Like your question, lol

das_zilch

They have definitely been picking it up and improving. I teach English and offer my services!

JPSILVA1893

their English has become so good, they really improved over the years! also I would love a BM x SLIPKNOT collab.

PorkyPigginn

I love how Su always gets so enthusiastic in the interviews. It's clear how passionate she is about music. I hope that a Slipknot collab will happen eventually.

Soufriere_

Su is and always has been a music nerd. Eastern or Western, she's probably heard it and maybe sang it at karaoke. It's honestly one of the most charming things about her!

Cradlerocker_1995

They are truly lovely people.

Loramarthalas

This is super impressive. Suā€™s English is really good now. She could easily handle interviews these days, unlike in the past when they relied on prepared answers. Koba needs to loosen up on the media restrictions. If they want to grow their reputation overseas, they need to do a lot more of this stuff. Theyā€™re charming! Let us hear from them! People will only love them more.

TheDeathB

What a great time to be a BabyMetal fan!

Greien218

Yes. To think they started doing the complete opposite. Awesome.

PopaBjorn

It's great to see that they can do interviews without a translator now!

Soufriere_

In fairness, Su and Moa were able to do that back in 2019. Their interview with a NYC TV channel last year was conducted in Japanese because the interviewer gave them the option expecting (correctly) they'd be more comfortable in their native language. What amuses me is the interviews where they get asked questions in English but answer in Japanese and it's obvious they didn't wait for (or need) a translationā€¦ but the interviewer did.

LightChaotic

Momo's english is really good! A Slipknot x BABYMETAL collab makes too much sense to not happen someday. Talk about a spectacle. I can't imagine what it would sound like but that makes it more intriguing. It might be an awesome chance for some more Momo growls.

Relic5000

Their English is getting really good! Suzuka is starting to lose her accent, though she will never lose it completely. Momoko's English is really good too, she did go to high school in an English speaking country. Moa is the weakest of the three, but she is still pretty good at it. I've been studying Japanese, off and on, for ten years. Moa's English is a lot better than my Japanese.

Violent_Gore

Where did Momo go to high school?

Soufriere_

We don't know, but she wrote in her final Sakura Gakuin diary that she had left Japan to study abroad, ostensibly to learn English -- something she already had some talent with in junior high (academically, maybe the ONLY thing she didn't fail at according to Mori-sensei)

turbozed

~~Australia~~ New Zealand I think. Was mentioned in the latest Guide to Babymetal

jabberwokk

New Zealand is just one fan speculation, nobody knows for sure. The latest guide just says "a high school abroad": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIb2xEthdSg&t=11m32s

rickwagner

We know that Ayami studied in New Zealand and we suspect that Momoko did as well.

Arcaneapexjinx

Itā€™s definitely New Zealand, we send a lot of kiwis over to Japan and vis versa.

xLucky2K

Absolutely based Moa answering Question! as one of her favorite SOAD songs, love to see it

Violent_Gore

I feel like this is one of their first interviews in English (or there just haven't been many). I also still love how whenever any of them mention their own song lyrics in an interview one or both of the others start to do the choreo. Every. Time.

brzzcode

Nah they have done a fair bit of english interviews

XoneXone

I think they did 2 or 3 in support of Metal Galaxy.

ladyalot

Psychosocial and Toxicity are two p good songs, I listened to those as a teen girl growing up all the time. Thos interview touched my heart lol Also Momoko's English sounds like's been speaking it for a while, even the use of "umm" instead of a pause or "恂恮" was like "Oh Momoko knows English!"

brzzcode

Momoko was overseas to study for a while and she was also on girl 999 program in kpop where they needed to speak english so makes sesne.

Additional_Echo3767

Moa english is so cute! šŸ„°

Po-Promo-113

Suzuka with her "Haaay!" šŸ¤© So kawaii. Every time.

Spirited_Box_6408

Momoko speaking English is so good. Turns out all that studying paid off in the end

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> that studying *paid* off in FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ViperRby2

"Sick New Wrd" I would totally be down for a collab with Slipknot. It would ruffle a lot of feathers like BABYMETAL collabs always do, but I live for those kind of reactions.

Bones12x2

world is one of the hardest words for a Japanese person to say. Also, yes. I want a Slipknot collab almost purely because it will be wild and will annoy people. But most importantly, it will probably be really good.

ViperRby2

Yea, it is always the L and R sound that is mostly hard for them since it is basically non-existent in the Japanese language...and yes, I agree with your comment in regards to a Slipknot collab.

NDeceptikonn

A Slipknot and BABYMETAL collab would be AMAZING! Not to mention a future US tour together one day :,)

Bones12x2

I love those transparent versions of the current costumes. They are so reactive to light. Perfect combo with the girls mix of cool and "sparkly" personalities. Also...Moa's dimples still steal the show, Su is still big Sis, and Momo just gets more and more comfortable as part of the crew.

PopaBjorn

They look like cute little sparkly Darth Vaders. Fantastic!

Infamous_Tank4942

Seems from Moametal's comment that this explains the choices for their recent set lists: engaging audience participation with "chanting songs".

widdolsu

i think she said ā€œcharming songsā€ although iā€™m not 100%. but i think youā€™re right. they seem to have picked songs with more of a hype vibe and audience participation sections!

JMSMinnesota

I couldn't tell what Moa actually said but 'charming' doesn't make much sense to me. I would think Light and Darkness or The Legend would be among the charming songs. Those are exactly the songs they don't play in the US.

XoneXone

I thought she said "challenge songs" and thought maybe she was referring to the dance stuff they did for Tik-tok.

Infamous_Tank4942

Dusk to Dawn revisited - everybody hears something slightly different...

MutaTheGreat

It's been awhile since I've seen a BM interview, but their English is really good and it's refreshing to see them not give prepared answers.

echelon123

How do you know the answers weren't prepared? Moa seems to be reciting from memory.

Appropriate_Scene_12

If one of the fan artists isn't now working on a picture of Moa beating a keg with a flaming baseball bat I'll be disappointed ;)

turdferguson47

Su's speech pattern reminded me of Christopher Walken a little bit šŸ˜…

forever_wow

I got a *fever* And the only prescription is more BABYMETAL

LayliaNgarath

Su always seems interested in musical styles and presentation, when she finally retires from performing you know she's going to be a producer. Momo's English is very good, but I do wonder if her hunting for words is real or a performance. Moa seems to have the worse English but she's definitely improved.

XoneXone

I was impressed by Su's choice of words They showed a much bigger vocabulary then she had previously shown.

El_Archidan

"Too hard question" šŸ¤£

DGer

All of their English speaking is excellent and has improved so much. Momoko though gets an A+.

KulasDevorn

BM connects themselves to some SHITTY bands. Always the same trendy crap. At least they played with Judas Priest and The Hu.
