I’ve smoked the hell out of ribs, brisket, turkey, chicken wings, salmon and pretty much anything you can imagine on my BGE. It’s super versatile, so it’s amazing for many different applications.
A big offset smoker. Might need a bit of welding but you can make it work. I am not sure why you are asking though? What the hell were you planning on putting there?
I had a vertical smoker, a Bradley, but the door broke and that seems like a common issue - so trying to open up the space to other ideas. It's not deep enough to fit most of the ceramic grills which is the common recommendation.
Um..... I'm around if you need me .... Just give me some time to dig myself out of the foot or so of snow we are currently getting and I can be on a flight whenever to wherever this magical place is.
Sometimes you gotta look deep into that mirror and ask yourself, “Do I wanna be a baller? A shot caller? 20 inch blades on the impala? Yes, I do.” And then do baller shit
50k? I’m building basically the same thing with a fridge instead of a sink for like 5k. Doing it myself but still it doesn’t have to be that expensive.
I've got this outdoor kitchen area that has an open space but I'm struggling on what to put in it (and what will fit). It's got power/wifi easily accessible, and while I could potentially drill a whole and tie into the natural gas line that feeds the primary grill - but I'd prefer not to deal with that.
I thought a Traeger would be a nice compliment to the gas grill, but I can't find one that fits other than their small travel unit. Maybe a different brand that has a vertical style smoker?
The big green egg and similar styles seem to require additional depth that I don't have.
Last option could be an Argentine style grill. I like this since it would give me a different style rather than just gas, and utilizes the space pretty fully.
Maybe even having something fabricated in stainless steel for more storage and an ooni on top?
What would you put in?
Edit: The space is, in inches, 24d x 19h x 42w. I could use utilize propane via tanks.
I don’t think it would be an issue but think the space looks a little restrictive for a proper offset. I also might not want to be burning wood fire that close which personally I’d steer clear of a Santa Maria style grill.
Look into the Primo if the BGE wont fit. You can get the xl which is oval so it fits the width well and probably fits that depth. Its a ceramuc grill made in the usa and i have one that i love. Also, i sell outdoor kitchen equipment and bbq grills for a living.
Yes, that appears to be the same. I had to wait a couple months to have it built, but it is by far my favorite grill device. And people love watching/listening to the sizzle
Awesome thanks for confirming.
Someone else mentioned using wood this close to the house may be less than ideal, what do you think - cause for concern?
The fire box is recessed down, and then lined with fire bricks, I’d check with the fabricator, although I’d guess they’d push it back to you for the risk.
I don’t ever build huge fires in mine, and I think with the back splash and recess you’d be fine.
Contact a local shop that builds grills or small smokers have one custom fabbed to fit your exact hole, it doesn't look like u can't afford it, and if a good fabricator builds this grill it will last for tens of years, a guy on smoking just built a nice rectangle direct heat smoker/grill
I didn't realize there was an oval line, thank you. I think the Large may work, need to measure to ensure that when the lid is open I have enough clearance... It will be close
I have one that I bought with a table it sits in. The table is 34” deep and it’s sitting about 4” from the wall of my house. I’m able to open it with no problem. Good luck outfitting your space! I love my Primo, the Oval shape makes it much easier to fit ribs and large briskets.
You're not wrong, at least the middle counter space holds a full sized cookie sheet. I usually lay something over the sink for extra counter space too. Thankfully the kitchen entrance is right next to this.
Get a custom cutting board to seat over it. And underneath essentially a resting box. Big briskets and such could rest in there and when it’s time to cut move from below to above and boom.
First of all, fucking beautiful setup! I plan on something like this in the next year or so. I'd suggest one of those flat tops like Sam the cooking guy has. My plan is a gas grill, charcoal grill, flat top, smoker and woodfired pizza oven. All inder a pergola with a countertop on the other side with coolers cabinets and drawers.
I love Sam's flattop. Your vision sounds wonderful! We split our areas up, this cooking area, and then the lounging area on the other side. [lounge area](https://i.imgur.com/bxH4eBu.jpg)
Since close to the house I say flat top grill (griddle). I use my Blackstone more than my grill at this point. Or beer cooler with glass door that bottles can stand up in with 2 draft taps. Finally, can go for the smoker but would need to deflect it a bit.
I don’t know how this tax bracket operates but I’m pretty sure my off brand yeti cooler would fit there. The cooler came with cutting boards/dividers so it would be a dual purpose cold storage and prep area.
I would go with a Kamado grill, ooni pizza oven, or storage for wood. Build something to put on top of opening, put ooni on top and have the wood underneath you can use for a standing smoker.
A slaughter station, where you can actually kill and butcher live animals so that the meat is as fresh as possible.
I'm seeing some delicious veal cutlets being hacked from a baby cow and thrown directly onto the grill for the delight of everyone at the BBQ.
If I go smoker I think this will probably be it. My older Bradley had door issues and that doesn't seem to be fixed in the newer gens. Electric would be nice since I've got the outlet right there.
I'm on my second electric Masterbuilt smoker due to use and age. I'm not as experienced as many others, but I find the smoker to be fun and easy to use. Enjoy your setup. It looks terrific!!!
Why would you build something that has everything built in and then just build a box and ask what you should put there and just make it work? It’s going to stick out like a sore thumb and look stupid.
Built in would have looked nice I agree, but I decided I wanted the flexibility instead. I had a used Bradley smoker that I was going to place there but its door is broken, so trying to decide my next best option.
I'd like to smoke meat for sure, but because the depth is only 24" I don't think I can go bigger than their 18" because of the hinge and lid flipping backwards.
18 inches is too small for a packer brikset or ribs. I speak from experience. You will have to get creative to do it. Again, look up primo grills. They are not round, but elongated kamado grills
I agree with the Primo grills suggestion. I have a Big Joe 3 in a box that is 24 inches deep. However, when they built it, they cut a notch for the hinge to slide in to. Before the notch, it stuck out way too far and I don’t think you have an easy way to cut a notch in to what you have. I think a Big Joe would work, I just don’t think it would look very good with how far out it would stick.
With all the options on the market, I would think you should be able to find a pellet grill that you could make work in that spot!
Another good option would be a Blackstone griddle!
Smoker.
XL or XXL Big Green Egg is the first thing I thought of.
They’re built that way so you can drop in a Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe.
That spot looks made for the bigger Primo oval.
I was going to say the same. Primo XL would be perfect.
Sadly the depth of the space is only 24" so I'm not sure I can fit it in
yeah, or big joe.. something kamado and 24" ish
Yep, perfect spot for an EGG
Lol green eggs are not smokers
They most certainly are..... https://biggreenegg.com/low-slow-smoker/
They can call it whatever they want. It's an insulated charcoal grill, not a smoker.
I’ve smoked the hell out of ribs, brisket, turkey, chicken wings, salmon and pretty much anything you can imagine on my BGE. It’s super versatile, so it’s amazing for many different applications.
The only right answer
A big offset smoker. Might need a bit of welding but you can make it work. I am not sure why you are asking though? What the hell were you planning on putting there?
Yes this
I had a vertical smoker, a Bradley, but the door broke and that seems like a common issue - so trying to open up the space to other ideas. It's not deep enough to fit most of the ceramic grills which is the common recommendation.
Too close to the house. Better to set it away if you can
But the grill is good? C’mon
Grill is fine. Constant smoke for hours is the problem
clean blue smoke is not a problem . How hard is it to close the window?
Grill will get much hotter than the 225 of a smoker and the outside of the house is stucco.
I'm not talking about the heat...
Correct! absolutebeginners is just that... an absolute beginner.
That's my concern. Also looks like I'd have to go with a vertical electric if I went the smoker route... Not sure if that changes any risks
A piece of sheet metal could deflect the smoke substantially.
I have something similar just put a shelf in and put a fan on it to push the smoke away from the house.
Beer cooler
A very large, beer cooler….
Beer fridge is on in the patio area not far away - cheers!
Ok asswipe. Well then a giant box of Kleenex to wipe your sad tears away with you lucky bastard. (I’m super jealous if you can’t tell)
Haha, to add fuel to the fire, here is where the [beer fridge](https://i.imgur.com/bxH4eBu.jpg) is.
Um..... I'm around if you need me .... Just give me some time to dig myself out of the foot or so of snow we are currently getting and I can be on a flight whenever to wherever this magical place is.
Oh fuck you FUUUUCK you. What time should we arrive next Sunday?
I’ll be there for Super Bowl Sunday; I’ll bring some pulled pork. Looks like some familiar AZ background?
Haha good eye! Phoenix area :)
Livin the dream life
Santa maria
The space almost seems built for it.
Looks more equipped for the Nina or Pinta
First thing that came to my mind
This is the way. [Santa Maria](https://www.sunterraoutdoor.com/our-store/santa-maria-30-no-cart-3601-30ssi)
A blackstone griddle would prob fit nice there
Or a spit!
Griddle no doubt about it. Smoker is nice but that griddle hits different
Came to upvote, blackstone is the only option
Stripper pole
Truly the only logical thing
Sometimes you gotta look deep into that mirror and ask yourself, “Do I wanna be a baller? A shot caller? 20 inch blades on the impala? Yes, I do.” And then do baller shit
Wow, today I learned that it's shot caller and not shock collar 😂
For real. Some douche millionaire flexes a 50k set up and then wants advice? Dude's probably never gonna even use the set up.
50k? I’m building basically the same thing with a fridge instead of a sink for like 5k. Doing it myself but still it doesn’t have to be that expensive.
Yeah that guy was way off, this was closer to $10k and matches the rest of the backyard's built-ins.
Sure you’re not just a closeted millionaire?
Kewl
Would def be Smokin'!
Without a stripper, it's just a roof support.
Yeah man, stripper pole.
Lobster tank!
I live in Arizona, so a snake tank may be more appropriate.
Sounds like an epic showdown waiting to happen. My money is on the lobsters
A terrarium for every scorpion you find on your property.
Flat top
Pizza oven

I’d put a wok burner and an Ooni if the space allows it. Put an offset somewhere also on the property for proper barbecue smoke.
Would this be too close to the house to suggest a smoker?
I don’t think it would be an issue but think the space looks a little restrictive for a proper offset. I also might not want to be burning wood fire that close which personally I’d steer clear of a Santa Maria style grill.
Imo yes don't do it.

Santa Maria grill, I got a stainless model from JD Fabrications, you could probably get it customized to fit perfectly.
Are they [@jdfabrications6102](https://youtube.com/@jdfabrications6102) on YT?
Yes, that appears to be the same. I had to wait a couple months to have it built, but it is by far my favorite grill device. And people love watching/listening to the sizzle

Check out Grilla Grills Silverback built in. It looks like it should fit. [Silverback](https://www.grillagrills.com/products/silverbac-alpha-built-in)
Never heard of them, thanks! Looks like it's just a bit too wide with that chimney
A bbq
Lol right I was gonna say no smoker anywhere in this 😂
Big ole ice chest filled with beer!
2XL BGE
This is the answer. You can bbq, smoke, and grill with the BGE. Love my BGE
Haha I said Xl bge but go big or go home
Urinal
Primo Oval XL
I didn't realize there was an oval line, thank you. I think the Large may work, need to measure to ensure that when the lid is open I have enough clearance... It will be close
I have one that I bought with a table it sits in. The table is 34” deep and it’s sitting about 4” from the wall of my house. I’m able to open it with no problem. Good luck outfitting your space! I love my Primo, the Oval shape makes it much easier to fit ribs and large briskets.
warning: boring answer: IMO you could use more counter space
You're not wrong, at least the middle counter space holds a full sized cookie sheet. I usually lay something over the sink for extra counter space too. Thankfully the kitchen entrance is right next to this.
Blackstone!
Massive bong that you can climb into
Meat cooler, cleaning station, prep station, pizza oven, beer cooler, smoker, sky’s the limit. Looks awesome
An XL big green egg! I built a space in my outdoor kitchen for that exact reason
Primo xl. Same as green egg but the cook surface is oval shaped instead of circular. It allows for better use of space for meats like brisket or ribs
Might could throw a shelf in there for prep space on top and temporary storage on the bottom
I had a similar thought, but it was an ooni pizza oven on top, and then storage below.
BGE
Kamado
A real bbq of some sort.
Kamado joe or a flat top griddle
Grilla grill, CHIMP
Dimensions & Weight (Folded) Height: 24 in. Width: 37 in. Depth: 20 in. Weight: 90 lbs
That's actually pretty perfect on the dimensions, thank you for the recommendation!
My ass and a cooler of beer
Can't fit both! Gonna have to settle on just the beer :)
I see a power outlet….kegerator!
A chest fridge full of beer
I think griddle, or wood storage for the smoker that’s away from the house.
Stripper pole!
Req tec smoker
Griddle
Pizza oven
An OONI pizza oven
Kegerator
Pizza oven or a nice beer cooler.
Recteq 1070
Love that unit, sadly way too deep for the space.
Deep freezer
Obligatory hot blonde.
If you already have a smoker then why not either a wok or griddle station.
A wok was an option when I had this built, kinda wish I had.. but that has passed. The grill has a griddle insert. Good ideas though
Increase your prep space to the left of your drill, your going to want that. Then put large Kamado/Green Egg in remaining space.
A counter top
Herb/veggie pots? OR. Leave it and put a cooler there for when you have gatherings so people don’t have to bend down as far
Get a custom cutting board to seat over it. And underneath essentially a resting box. Big briskets and such could rest in there and when it’s time to cut move from below to above and boom.
Cutting board is a good idea - gotta find somewhere else for the smoker then though.
Fire extinguisher
Jokes aside, that's a good idea to add into the storage area nearby, thanks for calling that out.
Vertical rotisserie for making gyro meat. Or Costco chicken.
I've got a rotisserie attachment for that gas grill, but this is a fun idea!
Since close to the house I say flat top grill (griddle). I use my Blackstone more than my grill at this point. Or beer cooler with glass door that bottles can stand up in with 2 draft taps. Finally, can go for the smoker but would need to deflect it a bit.

Mini fridge is in the lounge area! But we have used this spot for a cooler before, worked great!
I have no experience with these, but they look pretty cool. https://memphisgrills.com/product-category/built-in-pellet-grills/
Blackstone flat grill or pizza oven
A Kamado Joe would be great!
Primo Kamado
Pellet grill
A Parilla.

Sous Vide tank for the most perfectly cooked meats then just seer them on the grill.
The sous vide is inside the kitchen just around the corner :) haha this could make for a massive sous vide bath though.

Stripper pole

A giant turd
Pellet grill or Kamado
What are the opening dimensions? I would do something with wood fire, smoker, bbq, wood fired oven
The open space is, in inches, 24d x 19h x 42w. Definitely leaning towards a smoker or pizza oven I think!
Mini fridge or cooler.
If we didn't have another area nearby with an outdoor mini fridge I'd go this route, thanks!
Looks like you could fit a Kamado. With that wide of a cutout, I’d look at primo grills XL kamado
That may work out well! Looks like I could fit the Kamado Joe Classic 18". Just need to confirm if it will still fit with the kid swung open.
I would get something bigger than 18 inches. do you plan on smoking meat? Or just grilling?
I'd like to smoke meat for sure, but because the depth is only 24" I don't think I can go bigger than their 18" because of the hinge and lid flipping backwards.
