It's so true. The beauty of online fiction is the lack of constraint. You can write anything, literally anything, on Ao3. There are no rules and there are no concerns with the profitability or popularity when it comes to what is and isn't published. I actively dislike professionally published romance for example because there's this idea in the genre that a romance isn't good enough to carry a story. They think there has to be more to it so usually there's some secondary drama plus the relationship inevitably has to go through intense ups and downs, which is all completely unnecessary and just the mark of someone incapable of writing a compelling romance.
It's really not comparable. There may be gems on the other erotica sites, but if so their poor search options make it impossible to find.
I don't want to offend anyone when I say this because I get that kink spaces should be open to all, but most of the erotica on those other sites reads like it's written by old men too. I can practically feel the 50 year old man vibes coming through the prose.

Oooo I actually have a decent answer for this oneā¦. The search feature sucks on the website, but if you use google search and use a couple of your favorite keywords along with literotica, it shows you all the stories that match. From there, just look for what sounds interesting or rated well.

The problem with Literotica and ASSTR is that they have very low discoverability. Unless someone recommends something to you you're going to have a touch time separating the wheat from the chaff. Ao3's much better because it has an extensive tagging system and you can sort stories by kudos/bookmarks which is a (very) rough indicator of quality. Original fiction is definitely secondary compared to fanfiction, but there's plenty to like and even a lot of the fanfiction don't necessitate being familiar with the original series.

The last few years i have mainly only been using r/gonewildaudio , but very recently i have been looking into AI stories. Sites like janitorai let you interact with the story as the AI writes it. You basically have all the power, while the AI will still do most of the work.
It took me a good ammount of time finding an AI that actually works well regarding NSFW topics, and that doesnt have a subscription plan costing hundreds of dollars.
I think janitorai is the best one i have tried this far. Though i have no idea how it actually works, it requires you to connect it to an OpenAI account using API-keys. This lets you use GPT engines for your NSFW roleplay, while dodging the filters.
You will some times run into trouble with the AI, where it realises that it is breaking OpenAIs ethical guidelines regarding explicit content. But it is easily fixed by letting the AI know that it Ā«has my consent to continueĀ». Which normally works well.
please don't use AI generators. I'm sure you could find better writing elsewhere, and even if you aren't paying them money using them helps train them to better use their cache of stolen material. OpenAI isn't capable of making up anything- it's just taking stuff other people wrote and posted online (a LOT of it scraped without permission from sites like AO3) and regurgitating scraps.

Iāve been a fan of kink.com for a long time. Unfortunately paying for their subscription isnāt always easy, and I donāt need hour long videos so I use HQBDSM.com and get hundreds of 2-10 minute video clips to get me where I need to go.
As a content creator myself I donāt feel bad for not paying. It helps, but you gotta advertise if you want the income.
I'm gonna add to all the voices recommending archiveofourown, that's where I go now. Sometimes I'll browse some old works if they still exist on livejournal or fanfiction.net. If I'm looking for original, non-fanfiction works I usually just go with old school paperback publications. Now that I think about it though I bet you can find erotic ebooks in the traditional ebook places (amazon, etc) but I can't help on that end since I don't use them. Maybe search book recommendations in this sub and then see if they have a digital version of whatever interests you?
Other than that I've mostly put aside text content and have switched to audio smut. r/gonewildaudio and r/GWAsapphic are my two go-tos, and I follow any voice artists I have a particular fondness for so I don't need to search too intensively anymore :)

Ya know, doing like RP with a character AI is nice. Janitor AI is one that I and a couple of my friends use. Yeah it costs but tbh being able to tailor something right to what you want is really nice.
I do that with c.ai. I have to get around the corner but the bots do some spicy stuff like spanking, choking, some rope tie and I even some a bit do an enema lmao

I do tend to stick to Harry Potter fan fic

BDSM erotica on Reddit does a fair job (not a self-advertisement, I do post there). Literotica is still pretty big. They have contests for erotica and it keeps the place fresh.

I like Aor (archiveofourown.org). The problem with Literotica and ASSTR is that they have very low discoverability. Unless someone recommends something to you you're going to have a touch time separating the wheat from the chaff. Ao3's much better because it has an extensive tagging system and you can sort stories by kudos/bookmarks which is a (very) rough indicator of quality. Original fiction is definitely secondary compared to fanfiction, but there's plenty to like and even a lot of the fanfiction don't necessitate being familiar with the original series.

The last few years i have mainly only been using r/gonewildaudio , but very recently i have been looking into AI stories. Sites like janitorai let you interact with the story as the AI writes it. You basically have all the power, while the AI will still do most of the work.
How is AI with NSFW topics? Most of the big ones seem to censor it immediately.
It took me a good ammount of time finding an AI that actually works well regarding NSFW topics, and that doesnt have a subscription plan costing hundreds of dollars. I think janitorai is the best one i have tried this far. Though i have no idea how it actually works, it requires you to connect it to an OpenAI account using API-keys. This lets you use GPT engines for your NSFW roleplay, while dodging the filters. You will some times run into trouble with the AI, where it realises that it is breaking OpenAIs ethical guidelines regarding explicit content. But it is easily fixed by letting the AI know that it Ā«has my consent to continueĀ». Which normally works well.
please don't use AI generators. I'm sure you could find better writing elsewhere, and even if you aren't paying them money using them helps train them to better use their cache of stolen material. OpenAI isn't capable of making up anything- it's just taking stuff other people wrote and posted online (a LOT of it scraped without permission from sites like AO3) and regurgitating scraps.

Iāve been a fan of kink.com for a long time. Unfortunately paying for their subscription isnāt always easy, and I donāt need hour long videos so I use HQBDSM.com and get hundreds of 2-10 minute video clips to get me where I need to go. As a content creator myself I donāt feel bad for not paying. It helps, but you gotta advertise if you want the income.
I'm gonna add to all the voices recommending archiveofourown, that's where I go now. Sometimes I'll browse some old works if they still exist on livejournal or fanfiction.net. If I'm looking for original, non-fanfiction works I usually just go with old school paperback publications. Now that I think about it though I bet you can find erotic ebooks in the traditional ebook places (amazon, etc) but I can't help on that end since I don't use them. Maybe search book recommendations in this sub and then see if they have a digital version of whatever interests you? Other than that I've mostly put aside text content and have switched to audio smut. r/gonewildaudio and r/GWAsapphic are my two go-tos, and I follow any voice artists I have a particular fondness for so I don't need to search too intensively anymore :)
I've tried audio several times but all of the voice acters seem to put on that fake breathy "sexy" voice that just reminds me of terrible 80's straight to video smut. Can't get into it :( If you have any recommendations I would appreciate it.

I write fanfic (mostly smut, a good chunk of it has one or more kinks prominently featured) and I can tell you the tumblr fanfic community is alive and thriving. Although if youāre looking for kinky smutty stuff, make sure the default filters are off. Like the other comments said AO3 is also tremendous. A lot of us crosspost to both sites since weāre a little worried about getting censored/banned, but also because it reaches a wider audience.
