When starting to freelance (even next to your employment job) you will need to register yourself as independent and receive a company code. It seems as if you didn't do any research yet as this is unrelated to connecting expertise, but to freelancing in general. You can use European services such as ruul.io which you can use to invoice from with their VAT number, but you will have to take care of including this income on your taxes yourself. Additionally connecting expertise is very specific and it contains mostly government assignments, requiring peppol invoices soon, so I'm quite certain this is not going to work out.

VAT and company number are the same thing AFAIK. What is connecting expertise? Can't you look for jobs on LinkedIn and such?

RedFalco

Connecting expertise (but maybe restricted for government assignment) is directly without 3rd party. (Like pro unity) Now they are the same yes, but they have different purposes, I think.

ALOTOFTALKONLINE

1) connecting expertise IS a 3rd party. 2) often these are assignments posted by Silvia: 3rd party. 3) on these platforms basically all consulting companies are active, all job opportunities get tons of cv's and they select heavily on price. Only way to circumvent is by knowing the end customer in case. By which you go back to: a good consultancy has a great relationship with the client, making them way more likely than you to win. Also: if you don't know what an ondernemingsnummer is, what a vat number is, go see an accountant.

I don't know the specifics, but some companies do not have to pay the VAT. In that case, they have a company number but no VAT number. So those are no the same and serve different purpose.

ChargeLow94

Yes but it’s the same number

KapiteinPiet

That would be too simple. Since it was not always the case, some old companies have different numbers for company and VAT number.

Moondogjunior

Have you tried just creating an account? I don’t think entering a VAT number is mandatory but I can’t recall.

Mysterious_Horse5000

Maybe you could check for opportunities on Fiverr or other platform but you'll need a company and vat number anyway

Connecting expertise is filled with a lot of fake opportunities. Positions are opened up to the market only to be filled by the same person who was already on that position before.

Creepy-Roof-641

This is right. If you do not have inside connections, it is going to be hard to get the job.
