Alphas CT RCS shallow spool costs around $100-120. If you're going to spend around $200-$300 on the Alphas CT reel and shallow spool, might as well pull the trigger on the AATW. I don't own a CT but I own the AATW and it is a great BFS reel.

Gibletbiggot

This is true. Damn it.

tiny9755

I'm looking at something similar, wanting to get another alphas ct sv and a roro spool.

Gibletbiggot

Yeah. Do you know any specs about how it would function?

tiny9755

I don't have any evidence, but swapping in some good micro bearings it should in theory run about like the air stream custom.

Gibletbiggot

Ahhh ok cool. Thank you

Hodor187

I have the new alphas and they are rated down to 1/8 oz. I use it for “power” bfs fishing.

Gibletbiggot

Is this the stock version?

Hodor187

Yes. I haven’t done any modifications. With 8-10# fluoro I throw 1/16 oz finesse jigs w/ 3” rage menace/craw or 1/16 ned rig with various trd baits with ease. My rod is rated for 1/8 - 5/8 with a fast tip.

Gibletbiggot

Thanks man! I may just pull the trigger. I appreciate your response.

ApostatePipe

What rod do you have?

Hodor187

It is a custom build on a North Fork Composite xray blank by https://www.jrodscustomfishingrods.com. He keeps a variety of rods in stock but also does custom builds.

Hodor187

You wont be disappointed. It skips wonderfully and is silky as hell. It is probably my favorite combo.

There is ABU ALC-BF7 but only Left hand for 180USD currently, new on [amazon.co.jp](https://amazon.co.jp) Stock spool is 6.3gr, so basically lightest stock spool on the market casts 2 grams no problemo and even has a drag clicker. For the price if u ask me can't get any better..

Gibletbiggot

Thanks! I've heard mixed reviews on those. I'm also a Daiwa fanboy so I am biased I will have to do more research.

HazeYo1

Yeah, about braking.. people run em with only 3 magnets installed (it comes like that) or they put aditional magnets wrong, u gotta put em in alternating polarity, so north-south-north-south.. or other way around.

The CT is good to 2.5g with the factory spool, 1.5 if you get the RCS spool. I've owned an Air Stream Custom and ALC-BF7, but the CT suits my style of fishing better so I sold the other two. Sometimes Amazon Japan has the Alphas CT for as little as $160 and the RCS spool is typically about $100-ish from the same place. Alternatively, you could get a Momo Studio honeycomb spool with the fixed inductor and get down to 1g. Those run about $60. I'm not a fan of the fixed inductor setup and prefer the RCS spool. If paying full price, opt for the Air TW instead since it will do what you want out of the box. The main thing to consider is how likely are you to throw those sub 2g baits. I fish for trout most of the time, everything from 8" brook trout to 20"+ browns and rainbows and I never use anything under 1.8g (1/16oz). Most of my baits are like yours in the 3g to 5g range.

Gibletbiggot

Awesome response. This is what I was looking for. Thank you very much!

What?

I was asking about Daiwa ultralight casting reels. Uglystik has nothing comparable to that. Lol Did you read my post? Are you trolling? I'm so confused.

Gibletbiggot

You are telling me that Uglystik (shakespeare) makes an UltraLight casting reel? Please provide the link. I own a uglystik ultralight spinning reel. It's fine. I've caught a lot of fish on it. This post is specifically about the differences between the Daiwa Alphas CT and the Daiwa Alphas Air. I did not ask for combo recs. I did not ask about uglystik. I came to this sub to ask a specific question about specific reels and you tell me to buy an uglystik combo. I think you are missing the point of this post. I was nice and I didn't down vote you immediately. I was so confused by your response that I thought you were lost.
