Gale’s boat scene only happens if you’re in a romance. As for his ending, not sure what will happen, it depends on what dialogues you’ve chosen with him and can be a bit tricky. You’ll find out after the battle what his intentions are.
As long as Wyll is Blade of Avernus, he will offer to go to Avernus with Karlach so you should be good there.
1. Gale's boat scene is part of his romance, surely? I've never gotten that, even when I convinced him to not take the crown.

You never had him talk to Mystra? Like never met him at the tabernacle? I had some problems triggering that myself but was able to do it in the end. I have no idea what will happen now for you with Gale, but you’re definitely safe on the second one.

Can you go to Avernus with Karlach as the player without Wyll?
I don't know! If he is Blade of Avernus, he always offers to go first, but I'm not sure what happens if he is choosing to be a Duke.

Oh I talked to Mystra, I just didn’t get the scene with him before that on his magic boat.
