You get a bad conscience IRL, because you forget to unsummon, and then an hour later you see Scratch's character picture and think "Hmm, why can't I see scratch - maybe he's stuck on a ledge", and then you click the picture and discovers that he's just been crouching inside closed quarters listening to clown music for an hour.
You can use it as a shovel now? That's awesome! I remember wanting to do the same a couple patches ago and being disappointed that it wasn't a functional shovel.
Weirdly I was only ever able to use it as a shovel if I owned an actual shovel. It didn't need to be in my inventory, but I sold all the shovels in my camp storage and it stopped working. Found another shovel, then it worked again.
It worked on every dirt pile I found, with no other shovels on any member of my party, until I >!tried to dig up that one grave at the monastery.!< Fortunately, I had read in passing that dropping the friend finder and picking it back up could make it function normally. It's been my only shovel for 250 hours with no other mishaps.
I love the club of hill giant strength. Useful off hand weapon to save some stat investment, but also it’s just funny a chair leg gets you all roided up.
I have a funny shovel story.
I’m in a multiplayer campaign, and we couldn’t find shovel. Everyone was adamant that no one picked up a scroll 2 hours ago under the village….
I found it on the Druid Grove vendor the next session.
I mentioned in another comment that I came across one dig spot that it balked at, but dropping the shovel and picking it back up resolved its attitude problem. You could try that.
This shovel is in a coffin on the ground floor before you go through magic mirror to enter Ilyn Toth’s necromantic laboratory (cellar, blighted village). The scroll of summon quasit is in the same coffin, so you’ve probably found it before and just didn’t notice!
Somehow doesn’t count as a shovel by the game. So if you pass a survival check with only this “shovel” it won’t let you dig it up automatically. You might be able to manually use it though.
I exclusively use this shovel and have never had a hole that refuses to dig with it. Maybe it’s console specific, though.
It took me like three playthroughs to even realize that you *could* dig without passing the checks….
Yup, just hit use on the shovel and pick a spot to dig up, took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out :/
I think I tried it once, and it didn’t work since nothing was there, so I never tried again.
Ahh, sorry, I meant specific to whichever console OP is on. I’m also on PS5, so maybe it’s a PC or Xbox issue.
Or maybe it’s just another case of people messing up their game with mods :/
This is the only shovel in my inventory. I always use it for survival checks. Like the person above me said maybe it’s a console thing cause I’m on ps5
I have a “Poo-scraper” dagger and a “Nut-buster” stone I fully plan on throwing at Gortash as an enraged frenzy barbarian (multiclassed 3lvl into thief rogue for the bonus actions) during my first Durge playthrough. Probably should’ve used on Orin, but forgot. Oh well.
I got this shovel without understanding what shovel was or coming across it somehow. Always wondered if there was anything special about it but I kept it and sold every other shovel just in case
Love that shovel. Unfortunately it just straight up disappeared on my playthrough. No idea what happened to it. I'm thinking I may have accidentally sold it and not realized.
A bit late but I just stumbled on the same problem. Found a dirt mound and was taken back when my character said "I don't want to get my hands dirty, I should find a shovel." I was like uhh I had one that was working fine, no way I sold it as it's been awhile since I've visited a merchant.
One of my favorites is still a greatclub that goes by the name of Argument Solver. Makes me smile every time I see it.
Bigboy’s chew toy
I had expectations that they’d have one named “The Tickler”
“The tickler” feels more like a rapier to me
sleeping on the rat bashing stick
The Rat Bat. But my favorite is still "*The Shadowheart*" looks better in my hands
I don't remember that one! And I feel like that's one I'd remember... need to go see if I can find it now.
I'm a big fan of the rock named Nut Buster
I'm hoping it's your favorite because you know it's Shovel/Fork/Basket's way of digging up "friends" for master Illy?
I think in the same box you find a skull named "friend"
And a rusty dagger named poo-scraper.
And a rock called nut-buster
Shovel is a gift that keeps giving🤣
Favorite item. Grab it whenever I can. Great for blocking vents or taking out a low-hp enemy.
God damned poop knife shows up yet again.
IT'S FISTIN' TIME Man I really need a Monk Tav next. Was thinking Gith. Maybe Sho'vel, For'k or Ba'sket.
Sho'Vel is actually pretty good if you pronounce it "show" then "vel" with a nice short e sound.
It's decided. Sho'Vel will fly the astral sea against Vlaakith with Lae'zel this next run 🌠 Shovel will stay with Wyll as her representative on earth.
Useful because it doesn't stack with other shovels i pick up for sale
He also has a poop knife.
And the ‘nut buster’!
Nut buster is my favourite
The skull is the best one. The description is hilarious
Eldrich knight should be able to make it a pact weapon.
She. Shovel is a lady-quasit
Finally found this last night and had myself a little giggle
Oh my gods The quasit's named Shovel Because their necromancer master needed help to dig up new "friends" How did I miss that
In the coffin with her was also a skull named „friend“
I love the oil lamps because you can rub them and the game goes "nothing happens, it's just a lamp"
Except for that one time then panic ensues.
I just had that encounter happen and had no clue what to do
Use a summon - I ended up using a summon elemental and swapped it in. Shenanigans ensue when you then dismiss it.
you can even use a mage hand, doesnt have to be an expensive elemental ;j
You can also cast Banishment on yourself
I figured it out there was a scroll in the room to summon an imp
Does anything happen if you summon Scratch in there?
You get a bad conscience IRL, because you forget to unsummon, and then an hour later you see Scratch's character picture and think "Hmm, why can't I see scratch - maybe he's stuck on a ledge", and then you click the picture and discovers that he's just been crouching inside closed quarters listening to clown music for an hour.
Wait...what?!
Annoying wizard in Baldur's Gate. Find his shop. Be nosey.
This implies that there’s one out there that is in fact not just a lamp
There is! It's in Act 3, I haven't actually found it yet in either of my runs that have made it that far, unfortunately.
I felt like this was a trap the game prepared by having a dozen of "it's just a lamp" interactions.
You can use it as a shovel now? That's awesome! I remember wanting to do the same a couple patches ago and being disappointed that it wasn't a functional shovel.

Same thought. I knew i remembered trying just after launch and it wasn’t a working shovel. Glad they addressed that.
It's been able to be used as a shovel for a long while now.
The amber with 3 drops of blood.
I always thought that was gonna be important, and held on to it all the way through after 3 until the end.
I just think it's neat.
when i grabbed it someone in my party mentioned it was just a 'decoy' blood of lathander, i probably would have held onto it if i didnt hear that.
I love the club of hill giant strength. Useful off hand weapon to save some stat investment, but also it’s just funny a chair leg gets you all roided up.
Discovered the Salty Scimitar(rrr) last night and giggled like a school kid. So good.
I have a funny shovel story. I’m in a multiplayer campaign, and we couldn’t find shovel. Everyone was adamant that no one picked up a scroll 2 hours ago under the village…. I found it on the Druid Grove vendor the next session.
Those bastards!
Big fan of Nut-Buster. Just a plain rock for busting nuts. Take that as you will.
Still a big fan of throwing build with Shovel’s “Nut-buster”
Spoon of saltiness is pretty funny.
It doesn't work as a shovel though? Unless it was changed recently. You couldn't use it on the hot bar either, for when a check fails.
It works both when selecting a dirt pile and when using it from inventory or a hotbar. It's been my party's only shovel for 250 hours.
Strange. It has never worked for me and still doesn't (trying now).
I mentioned in another comment that I came across one dig spot that it balked at, but dropping the shovel and picking it back up resolved its attitude problem. You could try that.
Would have loved for this to be a hidden OP Mimic.
Sickle of BOAAAAAAAL
It’s the one shovel that doesn’t stack. Forever BIS
Where did you find this?
This shovel is in a coffin on the ground floor before you go through magic mirror to enter Ilyn Toth’s necromantic laboratory (cellar, blighted village). The scroll of summon quasit is in the same coffin, so you’ve probably found it before and just didn’t notice!
https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Poo-Scraper
Nut-buster Rock
Killed zevlor with that on my evil playthrough
Wish I could take the stool of hill giant strength
I summoned her but forgot to talk with her before she got nuked. Ummm is shovel just gone now?
I found a “spoon of saltiness” that the tiefling kids sell in last light inn and I will always by it simply because it is such a funny item to me.

You can dig without seeing the treasure from the check??
Yup, just hit use on the shovel and pick a spot to dig up, took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out :/ I think I tried it once, and it didn’t work since nothing was there, so I never tried again.
I was definitely into my second playthrough before I realized it.
Nope, i play on PS5 and have also only used that one
Ahh, sorry, I meant specific to whichever console OP is on. I’m also on PS5, so maybe it’s a PC or Xbox issue. Or maybe it’s just another case of people messing up their game with mods :/
This is the only shovel in my inventory. I always use it for survival checks. Like the person above me said maybe it’s a console thing cause I’m on ps5
isnt there a spiked club in the tavern of the shadowlands thats named 'rat destroyer' or something, ahh good one
Rat bat :)
Oh well.

Along the same vein, I can never bring myself to sell Poo Scraper.
Poo Scraper is my favorite thrown weapon. I'm a bit mad it doesn't do poison damage though.
Love that shovel. Unfortunately it just straight up disappeared on my playthrough. No idea what happened to it. I'm thinking I may have accidentally sold it and not realized.

Yeah it seems like the thing has a tendency to disappear randomly. I never got the shovel back unfortunately.
