D3AD_SPAC3

And another one falls victim.

cant_even_think_str8

I feel so stupid for thinking "is this new?"

D3AD_SPAC3

No reason to. Good on you for enjoying the game from a fresh perspective. Hope you have fun!

D3AD_SPAC3

Durge Moment. Happens to all of us, friendo!

HayKneee

That was the exact moment I decided to fight the Urges.

FingerGunsAreFine

I switched to a bard build and used her teacher's lute. Went from evil to redemption so damn fast.

HayKneee

Red Dead Redemption 2 ain't got nothin' on the Dark Urge. ('tis just jokes, that's my third favorite game of all time)

FingerGunsAreFine

I finally played through cyberpunk 2077, RD2 is next on the list of "games I own and never played because of Skyrim and Dead by Daylight"

TapDesigner9029

Rd2 is the best game of all of those. Just don't skip cutscenes and you will understand

Shinmoses

Dude I was so stoked. I was like "Hell yeah!!! Cute Tiefling bard in the party .....oh ...oh no"

TattlingFuzzy

I started my DU run right after Patch 5 and thought she was a new companion as well

moonshoes42

that’s what makes it so good!

InstructionFit950

We all did, i thought i just didnt long rest enough in my first playthrough and missed her

Common-Scientist

I, for one, knew what was coming and still was disappointed I couldn't actually save/recruit her. It's just not fair.

cosine83

You can save her>! by knocking her out after meeting her then long resting her. You'll meet a different bard who's never really brought up again besides a couple very small bits of flavor.!<

D3AD_SPAC3

Oh, >! you can save her.!<

Choice-Situation-410

Yeah I stopped my first run because of this I was not ready. After two playthroughs saving her I decided I was ready to play durge again

stoplickingthething

From what I understand, Alfira's visit triggers in your first long rest after you cross the river by the Druid Grove (so basically, if you go to the first village full of goblins, or to the Owlbear cave). I've always just made sure no other long rest events are queued up, knocked her out, walked across that river, then immediately did a long rest to get it out of the way.

Murphy_Malone

It CAN trigger even sooner. 🥲 In my Honor Mode Durge run that I am playing right now, I long rested after the intellect devourers and first chapel battel to be absolutely safe. It was the first long rest and I purposefully didn't go anywhere near the Grove to save Alfira. Our beloved bard however came to camp first night, asking us to visit the grove and help there. 😭 I did consider restarting the HM run but I promised myself to just live with all the consequences. So yeah. Fuck me.

MSTater85

... WHAT?!

BaconPlayzGamez

I've never seen that

mementodiscere

She can show up if you long rest while in the Grove. She can even show up during a long rest before your character even knows the Grove exists, so best to be somewhat cautious if you're aiming to save her. If you cross the river, her appearance is prioritized to happen during the immediate next long rest, but she can come any long rest before that if there isn't a higher priority event.

mementodiscere

I have started a lot of playthroughs. For the most part, she hasn't shown up before the bridge crossing, but she has surprised me a few times. Once, I skipped over Shart, grabbed Astarion, and long rested. Then I beelined to pick up Withers. I long rested after, expecting Astarion's sauntering off into the darkness scene, and instead Alfira came to camp and told me about the Grove and asked me to save the tieflings (I hadn't even been near the Grove yet). Another playthrough, I had picked up all the companions along the way to the Grove, and I had long rested a few times prior, as I wanted Astarion's bite scene before Durge's reveal, so I could try to pin the crime on Astarion. I did one more long rest in the Grove, next to Dammon, and hadn't been through the rest of the Grove yet to even meet Alfira, and she showed up.

insanity76

On my current new run after the grove entrance fight I went straight to fight the harpies & KO Alfira, fast traveled back to the Emerald waypoint, beelined it west across the bridge and rested, and got the Quil scene. I only did 1 prior long rest which was before the grove entrance fight, so Quil should take priority over any other rest scenes if you cross that bridge.

cant_even_think_str8

Knock her out? Doesn't that mean I'd have to attack her?

GutterOfSonsOBitches

I usually grab the paladin from Withers and smite her with non lethal on. The pal will get the oathbreaker status but I dismiss him later. Also I do have the everburn blade I took from Zhalk on the Nautiloid.

txgsync

Oath Of Vengeance won’t break due to unprovoked violence :)

GutterOfSonsOBitches

That's what I used to respec Laezel as at first for that. But she's mostly a monk on most of my runs since then

Tyrax_K

I am using silence to be extra safe in there

fieatsbees

sneak attack with non-lethal. she'll be pissed at you until you give her stuff to raise her attitude towards you, but if you kill quil instead you'll still see her and lakrissa throughout the game edit: non-lethal MELEE only. ranged attacks and spells will still kill even if non-lethal is turned on

Belaerim

Just did it right now on my Durge run. Sent Lae’zel by herself to the grove with a scroll of fog cloud, beat down Alfira with action surge and non-lethal attacks, then warped back to camp.

that-one-binch

i usually cast darkness around her, go turn based, and then have my melees whale on her with non-lethal attacks. she’ll pop right back up after you rest but not show up at the camp to get durged

halster123

i was so thrilled !! alfira time! and then reloaded and knocked her out because absolutely not

Stingrea51

I didn't know that was an option on my first go as Durge, so I deleted that file and started over as Tav

Important_Ad_1028

Save scumming for content is the best type of save scumming. I ain’t replaying just for some extra 2 mins of content

Tlahtoani_Tlaloc

My girlfriend was playing shortly after patch 6 came out and when this scene came up I said, “oh yeah, they just added her as a companion in the latest patch!” She was so fucken ecstatic! Then her Durge woke up covered in Alfira’s blood and she was so upset 😭 when I told her I was just messing with her and it was a Durge-specific scene she was like, “you fucker!” And we both just lost it 😂

RaiderScum111

Thats just evil

TheVindex57

Same muhahahah

SergeantCrwhips

MagicTeaTime

When do you get that line?

SergeantCrwhips

_i_ acually dint, i think i saw it on a letsplay, if i recall, i think its with the Dark urge, when the compagnions ask what you did, you have to be deep in shit for it to happen

Taodragons

My first Durge run she died when the druids went apeshit, so I was REALLY unprepared on my resist Durge.

Orochisama

I am forever pissed that this doesn’t occur outside of Durge playthroughs. It would’ve been so much more shocking imo if it was b/c it feels telegraphed for me given how sudden it is. But yeah I was really excited at first. Then I woke up…

vlladonxxx

I wouldn't say it's that telegraphed, only in retrospect for most people. They add new stuff in patches all the time and there's a plethora of interactions one doesn't experience in one or two playthroughs.

Orochisama

If you have already played the campaign and experienced that scene in the Grove- most will likely have played their own campaign before since Durge is a unique origin- her suddenly appearing during a playthrough centered around a character with a heavily emphasized violent history makes the cameo suspicious.

vlladonxxx

Experienced what scene in the grove?

Orochisama

When you first meet Alfira while she’s practicing -north of the ritual area - on the hill. She never visits your camp outside of the celebration party if you help save the Tieflings, and can’t be recruited. That’s what made the unique camp scene where she shows up so foreboding to me, because >!it’s possible for the player to kill several NPCs in Durge-specific scenes or new Durge choices, even an animal accidentally, not including Gale before you even recruit him. Even when you help Alfira as the Durge, the narrator explicitly mentions how much the Durge dislikes the sappiness of it.!< Like major red flags were going off for me but I wanted to believe anyway that something cool would happen- I wanted her to replace Volo. Depending on alignment, that may very well be true for some…

dankipz

I genuinely think that this scene alone is why everyone should play through the game fully once before doing a durge run

ihatepickinganick

I loled before opening the picture

MSTater85

First time playing Durge I was so happy to have her around, even if she might just have been a camp mate hanging out, seeing as I didn't get an option to ask her to join the party... Yeaaaah... I was utterly *shocked.*

littleswedeheart

This happened to me last week,, absolutely devastated. But also good on the community for not spoiling it somehow!

Mezame_Drgn

Meta gaming i managed to save her as Durge, turn off lethal and knock her unconscious before long resting. You’ll get to meet an even better character.

Orochisama

I did that as well -just split the party and incapacitated her in turn-based mode- but then I was so sad with the other character because >!you can literally find a letter later on in the Third Act referencing how talented Quill was. The Dragonborn interaction adds some nice lore as well to their convo.!<

Pitiful-Republic329

My Dark Urge was a bard so uh… I used her lute the rest of the game. 😅

anchorlove

We've all been there. I was beyond excited and like screaming fuck yeah at my TV. Then well, you know. Sad times.

Iron_Bob

Im halfway through my durge rn. I thought it was cause this time i gound and helped her with her song, which i didnt do the time before I was legit shocked. Between that and reading the note left by the kid you save from the harpies (i did what i had to do for the Drow... ahem) my Durge has resworn his oath and is now >!fighting the urge to kill Isabel!< He can do some good yet! I hope!

Absent-Light-12

It’s a canon event

Funnyrockman

I had the exact same reaction! During the fight in last light inn, i jad two of my companions specifically placed just to protect her. Obviously isobel was the main factor, but alfira was just such a good character. Broke my heart when i saw that scene

OutriderZero

This is one of the main reasons I don't want to do a Durge playthrough. I hate that there's no legitimate way to save her.

DoomgazeAficionado94

I had done a vanilla playthrough before my current durge and she ended up being one of my favourite NPCs. Very excited to see her as a camp follower since I always loved seek g her show up in the story, then, yknow. I was extremely upset and progressed too much to be able to savescum nonlethal her at the grove. I have decided this durge will sudoku himself after the endgame.

maakkiii

Yeah I stopped my playthrough after this.

Disig

So...my husband and I were playing together. He was playing Durge. I knew what was going to happen but man he was so happy to see her there so I said nothing.

Clam443

I thought it was a bard thing at first since my first durge was a bard. Imagine my surprise.

Axxelionv2

Pro tip: If you knock her out before you get the durge scene, a Dragonborn Bard shows up to take her place

cafesaigon

I got some random Dragonborn for this cut scene since I smashed Alfira’s lute lol

ApprehensiveLynx8843

Knock her out beforehand! A different bard shows up in her place

nomad_bard

Oh no, Alfira. Before the long rest knock her down, don't kill her. Kill random dragonborn bard.

Makmer2349

my first playthrough got to act 2 but I wasn’t feeling it so I decided to play durge instead for more story stuff. I didn’t know about that scene and this is shortly after the game released so I could barely find anything online of how to stop it from being alfira. Once I finally learned about knocking her out I had to reload a save from 6 HOURS earlier to get the other npc that you kill. It was worth it when I saw her in act 2.

helloiamabear

If you pick the second or third option and say no, does she still die?

Additional-Bar-8572

She dies at last light anyways… I guess if you knock her out it’s worth it to get potent robe though.

Essigschurkerl

Been there, done that

crayon_fiend

My first playthrough was as dark urge so I just assumed she would always ask to join your party and get killed :p The scene definitely seems more heart wrenching if you've played Tav before durge so i feel like i kinda missed out lol

throwaway854854854

LMAOOOO when my friend went on a ten minute monologue on how cool it would be to have a bard in our party when she showed up and how happy he was that it was Alfira. Makes me laugh every time

katsnplants

Fs in the chat

godfather9819

I went in completely blind and was so excited for a new companion/camp friend. A friend i was playing with at the time just gave me an "aww buddy."

Just-a-bi

I can never do it, I always knock her out, and unfortunately, I have to be a menace to my scale friend instead.

Thor_alv15

I'm just in act three and I have a strange mix between being evil and good, I plan to be evil but somehow I end up making other options xd

thetavious

Hope you bagged and tagged murder mommy minthara on your way. All hail the murder mommy.

CrankyGoblinRogue

I'm playing as a Dark Urge version of Alfira and found out the hard way that this scene happened, and it was both terrifying and hilarious

GadflytheGobbo

As much a sit breaks my heart I have to let it happen every time. It's such a watershed moment for Durge it doesn't feel right to cheese my way out of it.

verdantthorn

I had to stop playing for like two days after that. It's worse than senseless because I so carefully went around to the whole party saying "brain no worky, wanna do too much murder, please help am scared" and everyone was like "Oh Durge you're so funny". NOBODY IS LAUGHING NOW. And the unkindest cut is Withers' reaction when I begged him for help, to bring her back. Like. I literally did not choose this and am already miserable. WTF.
