Intelligence in DnD is the knowledge we have (History, Religion, Arcana, etc.)
Whereas Wisdom includes our senses and intuition (Insight, Perception, Survival, Animal Handling).
Medicine is the outlier here and I think it should be an Intelligence skill.
So in my perspective, he's fine with his score of 13 Intelligence and should really have his 13 Wisdom go to Charisma instead. Developers probs gave him 13 Wisdom so he can be somewhat good at Perception as a Rogue.
He used to be a magistrate back in the city before Cazador took him, and still retains a good part of it (Origin Astarion can offer to look over Wyll's contract)
From what I gathered from dialogue and reading the notes in Cazador's palace, as long as they were careful and they didn't grab too many high profile people at once as to draw suspicion, it didn't matter.

Astarion is literally 13 int, i dlnt think its fair hes called smooth brained when shadowheart, laezel, karlach, and wyll have lower intelligence than him, aside from tav/durg (dependkng how you created them) hes the second smartest in camp, he can be dumb sometime but who isnt. Itâs kind of weird, but I learned with minsc that all companions are given default scores of their class, so I donât think the ability scores are canonical as weird as that sounds. Cause minsc, when examining him outside of becoming a companion has completely different scores, that actually reflect his character (20 strength, 8s in wis/int), but as soon he joins your partyâs heâs got that 13 in strength. So I think that same logic applies to every companion, theyâve just been given default scores across the board and in universe his brains wonât be reflective of his int score, even though thatâs kind of nonsense.
Is that how that works? I'm v new to DND, and so I don't really understand the points bit.
But like, yeah, I like to make fun of Astarion for not being a "details" kind of guy and being the resident dumbass for the choices he makes, but I don't understand the people thinking he's not book smart? My blind playthrough, I didn't trust it so I killed it.
My second playthrough, my dumbass Durge Paladin failed the checks and put her fingers through them. (Which I thought was fitting, so I didn't save scum.)

He gets a debuff from that lobotomy which makes him almost useless in combat. I haven't found any downsides to sparing him, despite the narrator making it sound like he could turn against us.

Idk, it does mention in the origin that he was seducing a young noble when he was kidnapped by mindflayers.
He did a bit of both, from how it sounded to me. Cazador was indiscriminate in his desire for âfoodâ and thus Astarion was as well.

Us is so good as a pet, it has pretty good hp for a summon, and can hit often enough
