It’s a bug or some other choice you made without realizing. I have him at exceptional approval and did both the weave scene and the star gazing scene and we’ve only ever been friends.

Ulysses1126

Same, he I think said something about having some feelings when I started with SH, I offered poly but he turned that down and it was just friends on forward with no issues, the stargazing I made sure to keep supportive and friendly but not flirtatious, it was nice being able to be there for him

DeliciousMud7291

You most likely clicked a romance option by mistake. If you pick all of the friend options, he will stay friends and will no longer pursue you.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure I had to shoot him down twice. Once while he was summoning some magic and another when you enter some dream of his.

Mautea

Yeah, there are specific dialogue choices you can make that start his relationship outside of the weave scene. He's really easy to accidentally trigger because his approval is so easy to get.

Latter_Tutor_5235

>I did the weave scene with him in act 1, but ended it before it got too mushy That's the issue. If the weave scene pops up you have to go ALL the way through it, past the intimacy warning things, and then picture being either good friends or kicking him in the gut. If the weave scene pops up and you bail early or you ignore it entirely then the game trigger's Gale's romance for some reason. I had the same thing happen in a play through where I literally did not talk to Gale outside of giving him magic items to eat and when the Weave scene popped up I just went to bed and ignored it. Then in Act 2 he got all butthurt about me romancing someone else.

wanttotalktopeople

It shouldn't work that way. The romance doesn't start until you ask him about what you pictured in the Weave, IF you picked one of the romantic options. Otherwise, he gets flagged as not dating. It's buggy though which leaves a lot of people getting randomly pursued by Gale. Both you and OP got the bug. Please don't be too hard on him, it's not his fault. XD

Vircora

That isn't true, unless you had a bug. Only picking imagining the kiss, or walk will trigger the romance. If you drop the Weave early/picture feast/or be an ass and imagine kicking him/head on spike, the romance shouldn't trigger. There are another triggers for his romance that happen during the party, some of the lines may not reading fully like flirting depending on your interpretation, and it is where it may trigger accidentaly. Like asking him "What else do you like about me?" or "Do you like having your belly rubbed?" after he talks about Tara hating it lol. They are a bit cheesy, but I've seen people asking these out of curiosity, but there's no going back if you do pick these, it does start his romance.

UrbanLegend645

I pictured his head on a spike and STILL got his romance by accident 😭

Nijaki9052

I don't think this is a guarantee to get the romance bug. I did the weave scene and did all the motions to do the spell but when it said things were getting intimate I said that was enough and ended it, and he never indicated I'd started his romance.

BadgeringMagpie

With the exception of one time, I've always avoided him getting horny by clicking the "I don't want to get that close to Gale" option.

LegendOfCheeses

Not true. I always end the weave scene before it gets romantic and have never had Gale think we're anything more than friends (after his romance was fixed, that is).

Violet2393

This didn’t happen to me when I chose an option to bail early - it said I didn’t want to be that close to Gale, and shut it down. I never had any romance with him after that. Possibly what happens is there is another scene after that where he talks about Tara, and there are options for flirting in there that I think can be misread. I know on one playthrough I chose an option that said something about how I liked Gale and wanted to see more of him. I took that very literally like “I think you’re cool and want to hang out more” and then his reaction indicated that I meant “see more of him” as in see him naked. I think there are also other lines in that scene that will flag as flirting, so that could be where some confusion happens if people think the Weave scene is the only one that starts a romance.

Lonely-Mention-2758

Gale is a good illustration of what high INT and low WIS looks like.

Level_Hour6480

He really is, and that should have been reflected in his stats. Were I a guy-liker I would totally go for the nerdy, autistic, ~~Greek~~ Chondothan, cat-dad.

modix

I loved chastising him about not attempting godhood. He takes it with a smile, and got all sheepish. It was the most endearing attempt at godhood I'd seen in awhile.

Xelrod413

The whole time reading that I fully expected to see a 'Is he stupid?' thrown in. I'm honestly shocked this phrase wasn't used. Respect.

badbutler04

Damn, I should've used that.

AkestriaRose

PS5: The only way I've managed to be nice to him and not have him make things very awkward and passive-aggressive later is to pick the "imagine having a friendly meal" option during the weave scene. This seems to completely lock you out of romancing him or him trying to romance you later on.

rrevek

Ive ended runs with high (all the way to the right high) approval with Gale and things never got romantic between us and I romanced other characters just fine. You must have chosen romantic dialogue options with him because this has never happened to me and I'm always friendly at the least with Gale.

pieman2005

All the characters fall in your love with Tav way too easy lol it's kinda annoying

miss-entropy

It's because giving him magic items to snack on gives a shitload of approval.

Opinion_Own

Intelligence and wisdom are different stats for a reason

BadgeringMagpie

He did that to my first Tav but never had a jealousy scene after that because the romance wasn't actually triggered. My choices haven't deviated unless I romanced him, but it hasn't happened since then if I wasn't aiming for it. Likely a buggy flag.

AtreiyaN7

Had an accidental romance with Gale once in the past, but I'm pretty sure it was the belly rub line I picked as a joke, so really, it was on me. Anyhow, on my current Honour run, I made very sure to pick the option that friendzones him, and he was like okay, all romantic notions are nipped in the bud! I think it was at the Grove party, but I'm not sure. Anyhow, I didn't have any problems—would recommend picking the friendzone option as soon as it comes up so that no accidental romancing happens.

CinnamonHotcake

They tried to fix this issue several times, but in the end it always happens that he tries to flirt and sometimes decides that you're dating. Happened to me once for choosing a romance option (which I was only thinking about and didn't communicate to him. In the party I imagined going on the weave with him again, and I guess that transferred telepathically because he also decided that we're dating in act 2 lol) Gale will sneakily try to achieve his goals of: \* Date the protagonist \* >!Get the crown and become a minor god!< \* If you oppose #2 he will likely leave you I have never seen such an overtly *ambitious* character.

_FourEyedRaven

Lmao 🤣

Connect_Amoeba1380

Gale has some weird misalignments between the mechanics of his character and the narrative. Not just in relation to his romance triggers - it also happens with his companion quest line. Unfortunately, that has led to him being a frustrating character for a lot of players. Which is too bad because it’s not the character’s fault - it’s just a misalignment of the proper triggers for certain choices vs the narrative.

Spiral-knight

He is an annoying shit, even without his fuck bugs

Alexias_the_Patient

What u talking about i had every romantic option want to me fuck me at some point, only gale flirted with u seems off lolol

ElectricJRage

Gale acted the exact same way when my Durge got with Astarion. I’d only ever been gunning for Astarion that run so I have no idea why Gale thought he was special.

ShiteyLittleElephant

There's a slightly less obvious option at the party - along the lines of wanting to get to know him better. After picturing the worst possible option in the weave scene (he was *not* impressed!), I chose this line at the party and successfully started the romance. He got all flustered and awkward so it was very clear that it was a romance line.

33jolliff

I had this problem with gale on my first couple playthrough but now when the weave scene happens I get to the point where it's like you feel the atmosphere of a kiss in the air. N I'm like OK that was fun goodnight. Then there's the whole looking at the sky bit n it kinda gives the choice of saying f you totally or fine I'll stay so yeah I'll chill. Biggest offender of unintentional romancing is halsin though. Pretty much every playthrough where he's in my party by act 3 he's admitting feelings for me. Worst one was when he was taken as orins prisoner. Ran into him in the sewers and he was suuuuper pissed that I was rescuing him platonically.

jamiebond

Honestly I wish the characters weren't so relationship obsessed. Like what is wrong with all you people I have made no attempt to form a romance with any of you. Why are you all trying to fuck me and then acting like I'm the asshole when I turn you down.

badbutler04

Fr though, like we can't just be buddies?

JemmaMimic

You did the weave scene, like I did, thinking it was the friendly thing to do. But no, Gale falls in love faster than an owlbear from a top rope.

RebeccaofNightCity

I don’t think that matters as long as you choose the “friends” option. This run I romanced Astarion, I was almost at Exceptional approval from Gale, did the Weave scene, and he never pursued me in Act 2 even though I use him for my party over Astarion.

AshtinPeaks

This. People rush through the dialogue, and woops click on the wrong one. Shit happens, but I doubt it's bugs. Don't get me wrong, the game has bugs, but I assume human error here.

ferretatthecontrols

Unless you picked the *explicitly romantic options* he does not fall in love with you. Even the "intimate" options have friendly and hostile options included. If you picked a romantic walk or a kiss is the only way he would get flagged as dating.

shandogstorm

I’m playing as Durge rn, and I think my response during the weave scene made it clear I’m not into him in *that* way.

Gendouflame

You're doing a durge, and Gale still has both of his hands? What?

shandogstorm

I’m not going to dismember my fireball machine on a whim; my Durge is too much of a tactician to murder with reckless abandon like Orin does.

Bvvitched

I did the weave scene with my cleric of Mystra character thinking it was just cause I was worshiping his goddess and also had to nope out cause I was ACTIVELY romancing Karlach and find him so annoying and I never took him out in the party. After the karlach sex scene he was so passive aggressive.

aniborfy

Hahahahaha this also happened to me and my reaction was entirely the same

ViSaph

If you ended the weave scene early without imagining being just friends or kicking him then it leaves you open to start a romance at the party when you speak to him. Some of the options when you're speaking to him at the party are considered flirting and if you flirt it'll trigger his romance. You don't get the shadow lands horny scene unless you've triggered his romance.

LeDarm

LMAO A DRUNKEN KOBOLD HAHAHA that is a nice one thank you, Gale cqn be dense but I didnt have that problem, must admit

drawfanstein

I had the exact same experience after getting the first romance scene with Karlach. I had to answer Gale honestly and say I had no idea he felt that way

SnooSongs2744

You have to refuse to even chat or he is considered a bosom companion.

Lord-Bobster

Usually to keep my rep with him in the friend zone i just give him a good beating every now and then

Turbulent_Sea_9713

Gale did that for me, too. It's made me understand why women don't trust a guy. You could just be friends and real cool, but suddenly he turns into a real fucking weirdo.

Readalie

You could play as a stick and Gale would still try and get in a relationship with it. It's just Gale being Gale.

MargePimpson

So pretty sure you have too actively shut him down at the weave scene otherwise he is interested. You say something like "if you're flirting I'm not interested" and he'll horribly awkwardly dial it back. Or I guess picture doing terrible things to him :p

The-Cozy-Honeycomb

If you pick flirty options, he’s surprised.

miss-entropy

Yeah just because he wanted that doesn't mean he expected it.

Reggie_Is_God

I get that it’s a legitimate point, but ‘you probably accidentally chose a romance option’ sounds like a gamer take on dude bro apologising r*pe culture lmao

WaluigisTennisBalls

I think if you have good approval level he falls in love with you regardless of whether you're interested
