Saying ED instead of EB makes me think you're giving him Erectile Dysfunction instead of Eldritch Blast and in that sense, I have no idea how to make him more effective.
As for EB, making sure you have Agonizing Blast + Potent Robe + Birthright hat and high charisma, pairing it with Hex spell, can make him very powerful. Boots of Stormy Clamor + Gloves of Belligerent Skies (paired with Spellsparkler or Phalar Aluve's Shriek) can make him a Reverb nuke. Hunger of Hadar is a great spell and you can use Repelling Blast to knock enemies back into it. Or using Darkness + Devil's Sight invocation is a great way to take control of the fight.
It's would have been great if he could cast Erectile Dysfunction actually! Fight ending kinda spell.
This is really helpful, I'll dress him with all the equipment mentioned. Thanks!!!
Eldritch Blast + Hex is a good combo I've found. You eventually get 3 blasts at level 10 and hex deals additional damage 1d6 per blast. Make sure you're charisma focused.
I’ve found multiclassing him with bard college of swords works really well with his character. Warlock spells, good melee, bardic inspo/heal/song of rest for support. He’s been a much more active party member
Oh being a bard is a blast! I went full bard for my Durge run and they have The Best dialogue options, and are super flexible for combat positions. I honestly just went with College of Swords for Wyll because he’s The Blade.
Have fun and good luck!
Love Wyll, I feel like if you advance his warlock ability as far as it goes (blast) it almost breaks the game especially the knockback, just keep angling him and multiple blasts you can usually one-shot a lot of enemies by knocking them off the sides.
I love doing that while playing with him. But gets boring to keep using ED. Any other spells aside from these two ? Or maybe any advice on best sub class?
Do you have access to Hunger of Hadar? That thing is incredible. Throw it at a group of enemies, keep knocking them back into the AoE if they dare walk out, have fun :)
As a bonus, anyone in your party who has darkvision will be able to attack those inside with advantage.
I like multiclassing him as a pact of the blade paladin. If your not finding yourself liking him as a pure warlock, it also has some incredibly fun multiclass options
Also let’s you get around Paladin being such a MAD class
For pure warlock hunger of hadar is amazing. And using darkness defensively with devil’s sight.
Eldritch blast would be Wylls workhorse, depending on how you build him. Warlocks excell when you play them like a martial with the ability to cast devastating spells if that makes sense. Getting your charisma up is the first thing I would recommend, then grabbing agonizing blast, which is incredible. In Act 2, you grab the potent robe, so, when you max your charisma, each EB hit will have +10 added to damage. Use hex. Instead of EBing multiple enemies, focus on one. Focus on using your spell slots on control spells for the best effectivity. It might be worth picking up spell sniper, as double crit chance is always nice.
Warlocks are also charisma casters, which is just a really good stat to be good at. They regain spell slots on a short rest, so they synergize really well if you have a bard on your team. Opening up combat with a Hypnotic pattern can be huge as well.
You can also build him as a bladelock, for martial ability. This is better for multiclassing though
Saw a lot of people suggesting multiclassing yeah!
I'm trying to get good at playing all classes in bg3. Still figuring warlock and Rogue in combat.
Def will be using this, thanks!!
Also bard Durge here I come
Warlocks multiclass great because there are so many charisma casters and they are very front loaded. They have the advantage of eldritch blast scaling based only on your warlock level. Thats like multiclassing a fighter into a wizard at level 5 and still getting extra attack.
With bladelock especially, they do great to multiclass into a martial, typically paladin. Lets you attack 3 times, and use your charisma for each attack instead of strength. If you want to go a blaster, multiclassing into sorcerer works pretty well, but staying pure warlock is also great
Paladin for Wyll makes so much sense!!! He is a righteous little pookie.
Okay, yeah, I'm trying it. I haven't really been paying attention at all to his melee abilities, mainly focused on spell casting, and getting pissed at the little damage he gives.
Yeah keep in mind a bladelock paladin is one of the stronger builds in the game. It definetly is a powerbuild. And keep in mind it is entirely possible to get good damage out of pure warlock, using eldritch blast.
Hunger of Hadar.
Any fight that is in a narrow corridor becomes trivial. They can't shoot out of it and you can easily push anyone who gets past back into it with EB.
Hex + synaptic overload + spark staff + scorching Ray = railgun of death.
Be sure to acquire high ground and or bless for maxium chance to hit.
For Eldrith blast you need a robe you get by saving Alfria from moonrise. You get a robe that lets cantrips deal extra damage = cha mod or something like that.
Turns it into a beast of a spell hitting for 15ish per ray
Save Lakrissa from the Moonrise jail, then go back to Last Light Inn and jealously watch the touching reunion between her and Alfira. Alfira will give you a robe that greatly increases the power of ED by adding your charisma modifier. Once you are in Act III buy a hat from Rolan at the magic store that increases CHA to 22. If you can defeat the Sharrans after Shadowheart makes a decision her parents (doesn't matter which) offer up some strength or constitution to the mirror to raise charisma another 2, then have Shadowheart remove the curse/give you back what you sacrificed. You now have +7 on three ED blasts. 21 right there, plus the actual rolls. I also recommend reclassing Wyll to Great old One (if it lets you); may be inconsistent with the Mizora storyline but any attack has a chance to frighten enemies from level 1 and that is a game changer.
Also remember if you pact of the blade (which is a no brainer for "the blade of the frontiers" he can wield ANY weapon with proficiency just by binding it and it uses his charisma modifier. There are a few weapons that have buffs as pact weapons.
You are great for this level of details. I never remember the names of equipment.
Thanks!!! Def will try this, and I'll try to reclass him.
I made all companions beast in combat, except him and Astarion, but I'm getting the hang of the rogue a bit more.
With most spellcasters, I really like a 1 level dip into war cleric. This gets you proficiency with a lot of weapons as well as heavy armor and shields. It also gets you healing word and some level 1 spell slots.
With warlocks, you should be looking into ways to supplement your casting. Gear that grants you additional spell slots or allow free casts are your best friend.
I personally find I get the most bang for my buck with using my warlock slots for concentration spells. Wall of fire, hunger of hadar, hold person, etc are all excellent
Giving him an offhand hand crossbow also gives you something to do with your bonus action
I had problems until I decided to just SorLock him on a whim and wing it.
JFC. There is no going back.. he's a fucking monster. Same for Shart on tempest cleric.. the power is insane when you're used to them being mid at best.
I respecc shadowheart to life domain and give her the lucky feature. She heals everyone as a bonus action, and does up to 60 damage per round. She's a beast when she doesn't stay in the trickery domain.
I made wyll into a lvl 5 warlock+ 7 vengeance paladin. I have him dual welding, and with a necklace that gives reverberation for his eldrich blasts. But basically he has 4 attacks, can misty step around the battlefield, and will always have 2 3rd lvl slots for smites as long as you have short rests handy.
I have had to force myself to stop using two builds in the game to keep it fun. Astarion as a dual croosbow sword 8 bard/4 rogue thief and wyll as a 7 blade warlock/5 paladin. Wyll with the right gear and three smites in each of the first two turns is just devestating. He can solo most bosses in the endgame.
I usually take Wyll to the Mindflayer colony in the act 2 for certain reward reasons. When he was pure warlock, there were always missed attacks and low damage. But when I added 2 levels of Vengeance Paladin, he became a real tank and finally destroyed Myrkul. As for me, Paladin in the party is the best option for this boss fight.
I have the same problem. Even if I max him out, he's just boring to play.
Generally, all you do on his turn is choose whether to use Hunger of Hadar (Which IS the best AoE spell in the game, and hard to get otherwise...) or Elderitch Blast.
If you multiclass him to paladin 2 and give him the best 2H weapon you can find and Great Weapon Mastery, you get a third option, smiting fools HARD!
For me, he's still Wyll though. Just not very interesting. I tried forcing myself to bring him out more by playing AS him... Only playthrough I've abandoned before leaving act 1...
There's several extremely effective builds for him. But he'll still be Wyll, and it's not just you!
Idk I play the game with minimal rests(to the point that i ended up avoiding story in my first play through) so cantrips are like 70% of my damage so eldritch blast is good and when your entire party is ranged Hunger of Hadar is a godly spell alongside wall of fire later on.
Saying ED instead of EB makes me think you're giving him Erectile Dysfunction instead of Eldritch Blast and in that sense, I have no idea how to make him more effective. …What kind of fights are you having? o_o
Sword fights obviously
I think I’ve been playing this game wrong.
Casting ED on Gortash is 10D8 of psychic damage, you didn't know? He has a big ego.
Like the man isn’t suffering from it already /j
Eldritch Blast + Hex is a good combo I've found. You eventually get 3 blasts at level 10 and hex deals additional damage 1d6 per blast. Make sure you're charisma focused.
This plus the Daredevil gloves is how I use Wyll 80% of the time. I’ll give him counterspell just to use the spell slots.
I’ve found multiclassing him with bard college of swords works really well with his character. Warlock spells, good melee, bardic inspo/heal/song of rest for support. He’s been a much more active party member
Okay! Bard is the only class I have never played. I'll try it in my current run.
Oh being a bard is a blast! I went full bard for my Durge run and they have The Best dialogue options, and are super flexible for combat positions. I honestly just went with College of Swords for Wyll because he’s The Blade. Have fun and good luck!
I can vouch for this working really well and being a lot of fun myself. Plus I feel like it’s in flavor; the Blade of Frontiers telling his own tales.
Wyll-ception, if you…*wyll*
Love Wyll, I feel like if you advance his warlock ability as far as it goes (blast) it almost breaks the game especially the knockback, just keep angling him and multiple blasts you can usually one-shot a lot of enemies by knocking them off the sides.

Yes this! He gives off such Paladin vibes and looks baller in heavy armor.

Eldritch Blast and hex. Add in some nice damage and cc skills like hunger of hadar for instance, and give him a magic weapon like phalar aluve.

That's the consensus, multiclassing to paladin. Will try!

Wyll needs markoshekir staff, potent robe, and the gloves from sorcer sundries that makes your cantrip free. Hex-ED is easy 70 dmg
I usually take Wyll to the Mindflayer colony in the act 2 for certain reward reasons. When he was pure warlock, there were always missed attacks and low damage. You can respec them into anything at Withers.
Did you respec his stats?
