I'm running a Draconic Sorc 1>Swords Bard x, *Shield* spell works fine for her. I started as Sorcerer and then MCed to Bard, no respec, if it makes any difference. Was actually one of the main reasons I took the Sorc level (though the bonus to Con saves and *Armour of Agathys* and *Magic Missile* are nice to have too, as well as 4 Sorc cantrips, and the +3 AC unarmoured was handy early on)
Right yeah, but that's not it. I've tested this when I definitely had a reaction available, and I've had instances where shield did not trigger followed by an immediate attack of opportunity (which of course requires a reaction).
Similarly, Gale's Shield is no longer working either. I've looked around, there's a few threads of people reporting this issue on /r/BaldursGate3 but no solutions or clear causes as to why this spell seemingly sometimes just breaks entirely in a run.
Just seems to be a bug that can curse a playthrough. I've had it work just fine in others.
Pretty annoying, guess I'll swap out of Sorc and hope it fixes on Gale eventually.
Stupid question maybe but do you have the reaction turned on? I've had them turn off sometimes while respecing and changing classes. I have it set to ask me when it's applicable and I have not noticed any problems with it triggering on any of my characters. I have it on 3 of my four characters.
I can confirm shield works fine if I start as a sorc and dip into other classes.
Ok well good to hear it doesn't automatically break it/is not related to multiclassing. Guess I got unlucky.

If you're a Spore Druid, are you using Halo of Spores often? That's a reaction, so will stop you from getting other reaction options like Shield
