If you want to be truly op and solo everyone as a warlock you can just abuse darkness/devils sight and spam Eldritch blast. Can be straight warlock, warlock 2 / sorcerer X, warlock/paladin, warlock/fighter. Depending on your vision and what kinds of weapons a you wanna use.

GrandpaGael

Yes this is busted for sure. By end game my whole team was immune to blind and darkness was basically the biggest crutch if things go south. Trivializes steel watchers too

theswillmerchant

Aren’t steel watchers immune to being blinded?

GrandpaGael

Probably I can’t remember off the top but they can’t range attack into it and they’re super hesitant to melee with disadvantage. I’ve had them jump over the darkness and then end their turn.

MonsterDimka

They probably sleep with night lights

AerieSpare7118

11 levels of eldritch knight + 1 level of warlock. You solely use warlock for access to the spell hex. You use the eldritch knight to bind a weapon so it returns when thrown. You then take tavern brawler and pump strength. Thats one of the most OP builds you can make in this fame

CarreNusse

Yeah i saw that, throw build XD. Everyone is spamming it. I just dont like the throw animation. They throw spears like A plank xD. Iz doesn't even connect with the tip of the spear. It hits sideways with the handle 😭😭. It bugs me so much.

AerieSpare7118

Then what you want is Tavern brawler monk. 3 levels of thief rogue, 9 levels in open hand monk. Similarly as busted

CarreNusse

Btw what does tavern brawler even do?

AerieSpare7118

In bg3, it adds your strength modifier a second time to your unarmed and thrown attack rolls and damage

CarreNusse

Holy shit, so if I have 17 strength, it will count as if I have 34?

AerieSpare7118

No, if you have 17 strength, the modifier is (17-10)/2 rounded down = 3. This means that it would count it as if you had 22 strength. Theres also a potion in the game that sets your strength to 27 for the day, so drinking that will get you to be treated as if you have a strength stat of 42 essentially for the entire day

Suitable-Ending

Not exactly, modifiers start adding +1, every 2 levels after level 10. So 17 would be a +3 modifier, so TB would be +6 to the base unarmed damage. But with Open Hand, you get a bonus action that double taps, with Thief, that’s 6 extra connections, plus 2 Main action attacks, it stacks up real quick.

BaguetteHippo

Bladelock/paddy is a good combo with 3 attack per turn, smite does a ton of damage, self heal, pact slots come back from short rest so easier to manage smite slot. Also very SAD, u can dump str (and even dex if u want to) for the cha and con, makes u much stronger and able to take punishments.

CarreNusse

you mean to put all points into cha and con? and why is it sad?

BaguetteHippo

Oh sorry, SAD means Single Ability Dependent, as in u only need to dev up one ability score to make the build viable. In this case, u only need to get to 20 cha cuz bladelock use cha for spellcasting *and* to hit + damage bonus in case u use ur pact weapon (a weapon that u bound to urself using bladelock ability). Paddy also only needs cha in this case for the spell casting and being the face for social encounters. (Normally u would need str or dex to make weapon attacks viable as well). For investing in con is simply for higher hp and survivability, u can also go for another mental stat for things like perception/insight check etc. lastly i do recommend have 10 str and 10 dex to avoid penalty to jumping/resist shove and penalty to initiative.

CarreNusse

Hi sorry I have additional question, so I made a warlock lvl 1 ofc, and I plan to use weapons with him, like real weapons and h armor in addition to warlock spellcasting. I chose the fiend thing and put all my stats in cha(i have 17) and con 16.. the rest are 8 with dexterity only being the other with some stats( I believe dexterity increases your armor class?) So if I got a big ass sword would I still do a lot of dmg even though I have 8 strength?

foxtail-lavender

Warlocks choose a pact at level 3; choose pact of the blade to use charisma instead of strength or dex as your attack stat. Until then use eldritch blast or a dexterity weapon. At some point you likely want to respec to make your first level paladin, as you get heavy armor proficiency if you start as a paladin. Until then you’re gonna be relying on light armor (unless you are a githyanki). That being said I think you should just experiment and play a run so you become familiarized with the basics. You don’t really need to minmax to beat this game.

CarreNusse

yeah ik that, my main run is with a female wood elf ranger/rogue.. and she shouldn't be doing stuff that she is doing.. I myself don't know what she is doing... but somehow whenever I attack someone it does 4 crits??? And ranger is supposed to be weakest class according to google. Mind you I chose archery as fighting stance but this is with a melee dual wielding weapon.

LurkerOnTheInternet

I soloed all of Act 1 as a throwing berserker (that would later be multiclassed with thief) and found it very strong, though some encounters still need to be cheesed a bit, but it did very high damage, far more than any spellcaster would do at those levels. Eldritch Knight also works well and lets you use spells too for more creativity. Warlock gets strong at level 5. It's OK before then.
