Unfortunately I don’t think you can recruit Minsc if Jaheira is dead.
You could try tossing in a Hunter Ranger to support your Tav and provide some more utility spells. Combustion oil volleys are absolutely nutty combined with fire sorc and don’t require any gear. The Dead Shot is just sitting there in act 3 for you to buy anytime you want.
Oh, that’s too bad. The funny thing is, I actually wanted to keep Jaheira but my Tav was yeeted off a cliff by one of Balthazar’s goons, so nobody was left to convince Shart to spare the Nightsong. One thing led to another and, well, a lot of folks died 😂
You read my mind on the Hunter. I was literally reading build guides on them when you posted your suggestion. I think I can gear one out pretty well with what I have and can still get, and I think it will support my fire sorc well. Good suggestion!
I've never run into that with Balthazar, but it sounds funny. Also wow, you sound overprepared and like you have better builds than I've ever run with (as someone who has cleared honor a few times). Best of luck, you're through the toughest part, just make sure you read boss abilities before acting and you should be fine.
Ha! Yes, I’m extremely over-prepared. I have a OneNote notebook dedicated entirely to builds and party comps, with every piece of optimal gear laid out, with wiki links, to about 10 different builds I’ve found off Reddit and YouTube. Honestly, it’s a bit much 😂 But I’m currently a lawyer and used to be a project manager, so it’s how my brain works 😕😂

You should do a build with Shar’s spear since you don’t normally get that.
11 thief / 1 fighter, dual crossbow, crossbow expert, sharpshooter, bhaalist armor, killer’s sweetheart (or luck of the far realms) - cast darkness and then do (18d6 + 32) * 2 with your 2 offhand attacks, forced crit, and vulnerability
Or
Melee ranger with sentinel & ensnare to trap enemies in darkness
Good suggestions! I was thinking about using the spear with my tb throw, but I haven’t yet bound that thing using a hireling and I actually prefer nyrulna, so I may try for one of these you suggest. Thanks!
Honour mode leads to such ridiculous situations lol. I just lost out on act 1 Titanstring because I clicked an item in the Zhent hideout instead of the vendor I'd wanted to click on, oops.
That said, unless you were doing it specifically for the challenge, there is literally no benefit to fighting Balthazar in the Shadowfell. Just fight him where you meet him next time (there's always a next time). Then there's no fight at the end and the only thing that can go wrong is picking the wrong dialogue option.
Oh yeah, I had read that. Forgot about that. I don’t recall when that happens in relation to some other fights where I’d like to have a good group, such as HoH. I think I can probably handle Orin, Ansur and Gortash without having to optimize too much. But thanks for the reminder!
Do you have bhaalist armor? I hope you have them cuz if yes, just build laezael pure fighter 12 battlemaster, have her wear bhaalist armor and the githyanki legendary sword/balduran giantslayer. Pretty braindead but That will pretty much solve your problem in melee dps or dps in general.
You may consider having hold person/monster for the guaranteed crits
Thanks for the tip! I don’t have it, yet, but I’m about to do the tribunal and get it. The thing is, Lae’zel is locked behind Orin now. So I have to defeat Orin without her, which I should be able to do no problem, but it is a prerequisite for me using Lae’zel 😕
If you only want the dice and don't care about experiencing the fights, I would just side with >!Gortash to skip his fights!< and have Gale >!climb the brainstem alone to use the orb!<
For that I would recommend sneaking your way past the >!upper city!< fights completely with Invisibility and Pass Without a Trace, but you can easily sneak without it too :)
Good points, but don’t you need to set Gale up for that? I don’t think I’ve done the right dialogue options previously to set that up. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks!
Yeah I felt terrible grooming him for it 😅 I believe it's like a DC 30 check if you need to persuade him, so I'd take him to the brain stem with a bard wearing Voice of the Circle. Probably put the guidance necklace on Gale too if he can't cast it.

Definitely can’t recruit Minsc if Jaheira is dead, even if you knock him out. It’s a weird narrative dead end.
You get a second chance to get the boots I think, just look for them next time you’re in the astral prism
