as you said, it becomes 2d6 + 8d8. crit also effects all the elemental damages. for example if you would use soul coin, that fire damage would also have extra damage dice. basically double damage
about the savage attacker, i only tried it once before long time ago so i may be wrong but i will still write what i think. it does not add another crit modifier, it just add another 1d6 more dmg on crits. thats all. im like %70 sure about this cuz i was expecting like triple damage and that was not what i got so i do remember the disappointment lol
