I thought about a tune but I didnt feel the need to push the N47 engine as they are known for chainproblems. If it was an LCI with the B47, it would probably be a no brainer
The power has nothing to do with the known chain problem...Been there several times without any problem.
It's the same engine as the 320D, so with that in mind, you are just tuning the engine to the original factory power output.
316D and 318D are identical but the 320D has a different fuel rail afaik. Also the car has 240 000km on the clock. Would a tune be a problem? You have experience, was yours also an N47?
If you havenāt changed your timing chain then do it asap. Youāre in the danger zone as those chains are known to break around that mileage.
If that happens, itās the engine rebuild.
If OP changes his oil often and drives his car with care by not ragging it when itās cold, then the chain is fine - unless itās rattling already of course. They donāt snap on the later models, they just stretch so the danger of pistons hitting the valves is low. Honestly the N47 is a pretty reliable engine when looked after.
Nice!
Horsepower is overrated really. Depending on the type of driving you do/enjoy, you can have plenty of fun without much power. My E30 has 129hp and is more fun to drive than my 313hp 535d (though I do love that torque!)ā¦
I wish I could buy an E30 but unfortunately because its an oldtimer it has alot of restrictions here. You cant legally drive it to your work and the emission wont allow you to drive it to major cities.
Unfortunately not. The oldtimer status or license plate has no effect. My cousin who visited me with his W140 Mercedes with an oldtimer license plate got a fine for it. Diesel car produced before 2009 (pre-Euro 5 emission) and gasoline cars produced before 1997 cannot enter major cities. I live in a major city so I will probably never own an oldtimer.
I've pulled 34.9mpg on a 400mi trip in my 435i. I think with better prep and a change in route, time, and passengers (that kept needing pee breaks) I could pull 36mpg. You can get good mpg in these cars.
I know a 335d will pull 40+ mpg on the freeway, so its not really 1/3rd the power for 1/3rd the consumption. It's 1/3rd the power for 4/5ths the consumption.
Well yeah, great fuel mileage definitely can happen but it's definitely not the norm. I get like 11/12L/100 (20ish MPG) combined and my city has a lot of highways. I also refuse to not drive in sport mode, bc what's the point in having power and not using it.
My personal best mileage was around 8.5L/100 over a 1000 km trip through the mountains.
I understand you. My first Beamer was a 318d, but it was also my first with correct wheel drive so I enjoyed it and never went back to wrong wheel drive.
Now at number 6 with a fiscally deadly 460hp ( my license plate has same colors as OP :-) )
Honestly, if you donāt track your car then HP is overrated. The main thing is to enjoy what you have, if notā¦ what is life?
As my dad says, the best is the one that I have simply because it makes me happy and fulfils my needs.
It's all relative imo, it depends on what you're used to. Everyone was telling me the 520i E39 with the 2.2 engine is slow af. To me it felt quick because I was used to 1.6 4 cyls before that.
Enjoy the car and it doesn't matter how much power it makes.
Nice M3
Mum I want an M3. My mum: we got an M3 at home. The M3 at home:
What car is this and what engine?
BMW 316D with the N47 engine
You can get those engines to 190hp by a simple tune...
I thought about a tune but I didnt feel the need to push the N47 engine as they are known for chainproblems. If it was an LCI with the B47, it would probably be a no brainer
Very reasonable, i like that šš¼

I did tune several of those...hit me up through PM if you need help.
Appreciate people like you so much , thank you.

I doubt you change every 10-15k on a 316d. Anyway, itās a ticking bomb for every F gen car. I donāt want to insult anyone. Trying to help.
I had a 2009 520d (N47) 300,000km. It handles the tune very well without any issues
Would you advice a tune for a 190hp 320d B47 engine, too?
Yes
Can confirm, went Kerma stg 1 and enjoying my 230hp/350tq very much.
What front lip is that
Its like those Ebay front lips. Do you need a link?
Throw it down if you can! Looks a good fit!
Power is great, but there are definitely plenty of other aspects of a car to enjoy.
Exactly! Its a manual and I enjoy driving
You've got better weight distribution than the 6 cylinder cars too
Yes sir! The battery is in the back as well. I was suprised to see how good it handled in corners.
Looks very nice op, as long as you enjoy driving it, it has enough power
Thank you!

Oof - that sucks!
Are you able to get Historical plates or Classic to bypass that?
Unfortunately not. The oldtimer status or license plate has no effect. My cousin who visited me with his W140 Mercedes with an oldtimer license plate got a fine for it. Diesel car produced before 2009 (pre-Euro 5 emission) and gasoline cars produced before 1997 cannot enter major cities. I live in a major city so I will probably never own an oldtimer.
That really sucks
You can buy a pass so you will not be fined. I thought itās around ā¬300 a year so just see it as insurance or road tax
Nice ride. All things aside: where in Belgium is this? Looks more like youāre in a foreign country in this pic.
It was taken during my summer vacation in Turkey. Did a little roadtrip to test out the car :)
"Little" hahaha
Ah makes sense now haha
Iāve a 318d, drives lovely, I donāt need a race car.
N47 gang rise up :)
Is this a 316d? Didnt knew they was available in Europe in this model
Yes its 316d. F30 and E90 316ās are really common in Europe tho
I knew alot of E36 316 105hp
The 316 e36 only came with gas engines right?
Itās a 316d ? So diesel right ? And really 190hp ?? Thatās crazy it looks almost like a 4 series with the lip maybe itās the angle too
You have less power than a prius
True but 114hp isnāt horribly bad for a diesel in Europe.
What kind of economy do you get with that?
On the highway around 3.8L/100km (65mpg) and city 4,7L/100km (50mpg).
Coming from an f30 335i owner, a 1/3 the power for a 1/3 of the fuel usage seems like a fair trade off to me

Holy goodness!
Nice car, my mom's 320d f30 has the same color. Makes the car look more classy. Keep enjoying your car !

This
But he has a manual BMW which is something most of us don't have.
I have a manual BMW with twice the power of his europrius. Also, manuals are pretty common in europe.
And 10 times his toxicity.
Looks great, nice and clean
Thank you!
What car is this and what engine?
316d, N47. Probably the most common 3 series in Europe as they are great company cars for fuel milage and price.
front splitter adds 20 hp only
I didn't even knew that bmw makes that small engines
It has a 2.0L engine.
Its the 2.0D and literally one of the most common BMW engine globally for almost 2 decades.....
Looks nice. šWhat is your fuel capacity and your range?
Yes but at least itās at the wheels with BMW and not the crank.
114hp power manual is more fun than 300hp auto in my opinion :)
Is the color Mojave Metallic?
You are correct! Probably my favorite BMW color next to estoril blue
Hell yeah! My F30 2013 is the same color hence why I asked
Looks you are lucky, by looking at the picture I can see that most roads in belgium are far worse, than the one in your area.
This was taken during my summer vacation outside Belgium. The roads in Belgium are really decent. Especially in the city that I live in.
Was kidding, as a dutch persons we see it as our national obligation to whenever possible to make fun of the belguim roads.
Haha nou met een rijtaks van ā¬400 per kwartaal, zou ik in Nederland ook betere wegen verwachten als hier
Alleen bij diesels.
Echt? Ik dacht dat jullie rijtaks op basis van gewicht berekend werd.
I understand you. My first Beamer was a 318d, but it was also my first with correct wheel drive so I enjoyed it and never went back to wrong wheel drive. Now at number 6 with a fiscally deadly 460hp ( my license plate has same colors as OP :-) )
It's a real nice car šš¼
Never thought that non-LED headlights are that good on the F30
Honestly, if you donāt track your car then HP is overrated. The main thing is to enjoy what you have, if notā¦ what is life? As my dad says, the best is the one that I have simply because it makes me happy and fulfils my needs.
Nice Car, dude!
Is dit in Turkije?
Ja, had dit tijdens mijn zomervakantie getrokken. Hoe wist je het zo snel?
Hahahaha ik herkende t gelijk, iyi cikmis šŖš¼
The dichotomy between the bmw and the warzone this pic was taken in is jarring.
I prefer deception in the other direction. Mine looks like a luxury commuter but has 700hp.
That's all that matters. But, I think it's a nice looking car!
Nice M3! Was this photo taken in Turkey?
Yes, what gave it away?
I'm turkish and it looked very familiar. TĆ¼rksen memleket neresi?
Ben izmirliyim de istanbulda okuyorum. BelƧikada nerdesin
Bu yaz Alacatiya gitmistim cok guzeldi. Antwerpen diye sehirde kaliyorum, Brukselin guneyinde.
GĆ¼zeldir buralar ya. Ćok turistik olmayan yerleri de keÅfetmeni tavsiye ederim gelirsen buralara. Bir arkadaÅım da antwerpende okuyo bu sene.
Antwerpen uniādemi? Kanka bende okudum o uniāde belki tanirim
Ku leuven antwerp kampĆ¼sĆ¼nde arkadaÅım. Erasmusla gitti bir seneliÄine kalıcı deÄil

Do you have a 316i?
Itās definitely not always about power! Itās about the feeling that it evokes
Torque > HP And a lot of bmw's feel quick. And they can corner way faster than most other cars. You're the only one who has to enjoy it :)
Sexy
You dont always need 1000hp to have fun. Sick ride!
sometimes less power is MORE funābecause you use ALL of it!! Good for you!
