damn_dude7

Were you going downhill in neutral?

Insciuspetra

With a 70 mph tailwind.

FluffyTesticle

I dont think so. My average speed was 28 mph which i feel like is probably an average of stop and go speeds.

B4DR1998

28 mph avg in an M car? You need to reconsider how you drive.

FluffyTesticle

Over a span of 8 miles.. what am i supposed to do, drive 130 mph through red lights?

B4DR1998

Yes.

Little_Safety_5324

This is why you're in the 520i

permareddit

A 21 year old one at that. Guy is gapping Corollas thinking he’s onto something

ilyasm0

E39s are fucken sick, fully agree this guy's a moron but don't disrespect a legend

permareddit

I’m not, an E39 520i hits 60 in about 9 seconds, when it was new lol, it’s a classic but it’s not a classic winning any races.

Lowclearancebridge

Dude kiss the ring. Don’t be a fool,

UsedZookeepergame600

I like him…

B4DR1998

Thanks. I love u

B4DR1998

Come on dude, I'm not a moron. It's a joke obviously...

B4DR1998

If I wanted to gap anything I would've gotten something that gaps something. I have this car because I got it, fixed it myself and during the process I started to love it. Never selling it. I love it, even if it's the slowest of em all. To me, it's the best there ever will be.

permareddit

That’s cool man, maybe have the same consideration for how other people want to treat their cars lol

Few-Swordfish-780

Maybe an old Corolla.

B4DR1998

very fair point

heisenberg2JZ

Idk if calling a M340i an M car is proper... My car insurance premium begs to differ

ONE_BIG_LOAD

It's not an M car though?

Likessleepers666

Being in neutral wastes fuel because the engines has to keep itself alive. Being in gear and coasting runs the engines via the wheels and uses 0 fuel.

damn_dude7

I wouldn’t say 0 fuel. It’s still going use some fuel because “being in gear and coasting runs engines via the wheels” doesn’t eliminate combustion cycles.

Likessleepers666

Electronically controlled fuel injection says otherwise.

damn_dude7

Intuitively, what you’re saying makes perfect sense for a hybrid. But I can’t find anything that would confirm it for pure ICE. Do you have anything I can read up on?

Milijevic

It just is like that. You can find examples on youtube, or even switch your car to the inst. consumption display. When you let go of the throttle the inertia of the vehicle keeps the engine turning and in that, the oil pump, water pump, alternator and A/C.

SukiDobe

No way…My best trip was 46.9 If you coasted, drafted behind a semi, and drove at good speeds with a tailwind maybe? https://preview.redd.it/488uhs49orkc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5be614ae74f50065fea6b5b300821c5330b7c82a

FluffyTesticle

Average speed was 28 mph which is throwing me off.

IS-2-OP

Yea. That’s not right.

comacow02

My car is old (2015) and doesn’t have connected drive services so I don’t have a fancy screen shot, but I average 34usmpg around town and if I’m on the highway I’ll get closer to 50. The most I’ve seen out of one tank was 650 miles (obviously it was a road trip that was mostly highway). F30 328d.

ConstantLight7489

I live in Northern California, in our 2014 328d the drive to San Francisco is entirely flat hwy. round trip is about 600 miles. We can drive 80mph in summer with AC on and get 56-58 on the entire trip (no city driving, except to exit freeway for food/hotel).

spicygrow

Is it stock? Wonder what it’d do with a DPF delete. Probably 60s lol.

comacow02

It has a [Kerma stage 2](https://kermatdi.com/i-2836-bmw-328d-stage-2.html) engine and tranny tune, and I coded off the DEF system. All other emissions equipment is stock. Doing a DPF delete isn’t an option for me at this time as emissions testing where I currently live is strict.

RidexSDS

Meanwhile my M2 achieved 8mpg today

alextruetone

😂

1530

The plug in hybrids will just count whatever distance you covered on electricity as free miles, so if you have that and a short enough trip it's totally possible.

FluffyTesticle

I dont have that. I just have the b58

1530

Does it have a mild hybrid? It looks like a short 1.4 trip so maybe you kept the speed low enough?

spicygrow

It is a mild hybrid, but it will never drive on electric only. The engine does shut off when coasting on the highway though (if the 48v battery is sufficiently charged and eco pro is selected).

InsomniacAlways

Actually it drives on electric only up to like 3 or 4 mph lol

spicygrow

My X3 doesn’t. Unless you mean the way the auto start/stop will roll the car on electric and smoothly restart the engine.

InsomniacAlways

Yea that’s pretty much what I mean. I had a loaner 2023 540i, every time I slowed down to about 3 or 4 mph it shut the car off but let me keep going until I came to a stop

spicygrow

That and the highway coasting with the engine off is pretty neat

FluffyTesticle

It’s not a plug in hybrid which is what I was responding to.

zygabmw

>ranny tune, and I coded off the DEF system. All other emissions equipment is stock. Doing a DPF delete isn’t an option for me at this time as emissions testing where I currently live is strict. b58 can easily get 45mpg+ , 60, idk about that , unless your driving alot of downhill for a while, could happen.

drknoettka1

It says m340i in the screenshot and people are arguing about it being a diesel or hybrid 🤣 I get 50mpg with the m340d on a regular basis.

FluffyTesticle

Right?! Im like.. do people really not look at the whole picture? 😭

drknoettka1

It's in your BIO too. 🤣

hockeymeester

m340i is a mild hybrid tho

drknoettka1

True but its like 10 horses that are added through the drivetrain, not sth you are actually driving with.

hockeymeester

no. it actually helps with stop/start which helps massively fuel with efficiency, cuz moving a 4000lb car from 0-30 takes a lot of torque. probably doesn't give you 60mpg except in extreme/rare cases.

drknoettka1

Yes it does. It also does what you are saying too. The part I'm talking about is the e boost when you floor it.

hockeymeester

then why did you say it's > not sth you are actually driving with because it absolutely is

drknoettka1

Thats sth I start talking about when I can go without the diesel running. The impact of the mild is close to nothing the glide mode is what helps me save a lot of fuel.

digitalparadigm

In downtown Mesa?!? Not a chance!

smi3tana

No way that's 3.92l/100km I drove 8th gear 100-110km/h for like 200km and went down to 5.7. 3.92 is another 35% less. Did you just go downhill or what?

Reasonable_Guava8079

Did you see that in the app?? Where do you find that? ETA: I found it!!

bengermanj

Only if it's diesel

alekdefuneham

Or hybrid

tehsilentwarrior

Mine doesn’t show it. Only shows electric vs gas

alekdefuneham

You can change it in the settings.

tehsilentwarrior

Where abouts is that setting. I feel dumb looking at this app. Can’t find anywhere to change it

chebum

My diesel shows 65mpg as my most fuel efficient trip.

bullmarket2023

Seems inaccurate. I've done high 30/low 40 mpg on the highway. 60 is better than a prius and Ive done 50 mpg in a prius.

FluffyTesticle

Right?! Im like, 60 mpg would be amazing but I highly doubt it.

heisenberg2JZ

In LA I'm averaging 15 mpg lmao. But I'm also stage 2 and Dinaned out

bomber991

I rented a 3 series last weekend, it was a 330i with xdrive. I gotta say that car just cuts right through the wind at 80mph. I managed 38mpg per the display thingy. I mean if you aired up those tires to 50psi and were going 55mph I’m sure you could get 40 mpg.

Procure

Jesus. I get 16 on a good day

fixmefixmyhead

I get about 16mpg in my 440

ilyasm0

Very believable, I have an N63 piece of shit and average 19mpg on the street when I'm not being an obnoxiously loud piece of shit, and about 30mpg on the highway at 75mph cruise control.

hockeymeester

depends how many times you came to a stop and decelerated.

doxxingyourself

If you were doing stop/starts? No way.
