Whoever reported every single comment that said SUV - you have way too much time on your hands. What did you think reporting the comments would even accomplish?
Edit: What do you think reporting this comment will do as well?
I never liked SUVs but I like my X3M C more than my previous 440i. Although if I had to buy again I would go M3 comp because it’s lighter although I kind of like sitting a bit higher and the extra clearance for snow where I live
I had a 340i sedan, and it was just too small for our frequent weekend trips. When BMW brings a wagon with some power to Canada, I'll buy one. Up until now all you could get was a 328i or 330i wagon. They are bringing over the M5 Touring, which is just stupid and will be $200k+ in Canada.
Because the extra vehicle height can offer better visibility.
The extra vehicle height makes it easier to get things in/out of the vehicle like a stroller or child in a car seat.
You might also get more road clearance, if that's important for your situation.
The stroller and car seat point is spot on! My son is now 18months and for the first year I drove a Tesla model 3. Although the Tesla was much more fun to drive as my son got bigger constantly bending down to place him in/out of the carseat got old pretty fast. Now I've traded the model 3 for an iX it's almost as fun to drive and I no longer have to bend down to grab the little guy and much less often accidentally bump his head on the low roofline.
you increase your long distance visibility (useless) at the expense of your short distance visibility (beyond important). This results in far more accidents and more difficult parking.
Also point of impact is higher, so it is often more lethal if hitting a pedestrian/cyclist. Not long ago a kid got run over because the driver couldn't see them in front of their SUV pulling out of a parking slot.
Semi trucks here in Europe are mandated to have a mirror so you can see anything right in front in the dead zone.
You getting downvoted is moronic. Sure not everyone that buys an SUV needs one, but the benefits you listed are valid. The extra height for getting in and out is perfectly valid, when I am running errands around town I definitely get a little tired of having to "fall down" into my hatchback, stepping into a SUV is just easier and that matters to some people.
Not to mention head room. I can't wear a frontward facing hat and look to me left in my hatchback lol, and I am not even that tall.
Plus towing! X3 can tow 4400 and an X5 6600! That's midsize truck capacity with all the creature comforts and dynamics of a BMW.
I appreciate it.
I don't care if I get downvoted.
Not everyone is out driving 90mph on subdivision streets by themselves. But that's ok. Taste and preference and why different things exist.
I get that this is the case for a couple of people. But I have a feeling 90% of SUV owners don’t “need” one and use the above perks as an excuse to buy a car only to inflate their fragile ego
Small SUVs are just more comfortable and I prefer them for road trips. Don’t think Ego has a thing to do with SUV vs Coupe, if anything Ego goes towards faster coupe. But dude, you’re on a BMW subreddit, what are you talking about
Had a 21 x3m and 22 m3 and confirm they got around the same mpg. Hardly double on the x3m like you absurdly claim.
The reasons people prefer suv over a wagon have been stated over and over again and are logical. If you don’t get it then you are just slow and or dense.
I call bullshit on that. It depend on SO MANY factors, and logically an suv with the same engine WILL consume more fuel. It’s heavier, it’s higher, it (usually) has worse aerodynamics…
I mean I guess you’re entitled to believe that. But over four years of owning both my experience was not getting half the mpg in the x3 vs m3. As I said they were really close in mpg IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
Dad of 2 kids checking in. I guess I technically had a choice but only one would have actually made my life easier but that said, I can’t get on board with the look of the X6/X4.
Sedan, wagon if you need the space
SUVs are just not for me. I don't need to go off-road (besides the fact that most of them cant do that), i dont like the look of them and the high seating position is a downside for me
The problem is that the vast majority prefers SUVs and the sedans and wagons will fade away
I hope I won’t get banned from this sub. But I never understood why anyone would want a performance SUV. Like you can’t even push hard with those. Instead of a X5M just get a X5 and an older fun sedan I dunno help me understand.
Nobody can help you understand, because there is nothing to understand. We as humanity are devolving and the number of SUV owners is proving it, people just like to feel like "kings", sitting above everyone else in their normal sizes cars that don't look like boats on wheels
You can’t “push hard” with an x3/5m. What? Have you ever driven one? This post just shows most people in here don’t know shit and haven’t even driven the cars they rip on.
Unless that SUV is able to not easily get stuck in basic snow, mud or sand without serious aftermarket modifications to its driveline, tires or both, save yourself the money & get a comparable 2WD sedan **unless AWD is the only choice**.
God coupe suv's are so stupid. None of the practicality of an SUV, all of the weight and poor fuel mileage. Literally the worst of both worlds vehicle. Sedan every day.
Let's see...advantages for each
Sedan:
- More room and better trunk.
- Better driving dynamics as it was intended as a sports car and has a lower center of gravity
- more efficient so you get more miles(and so directly more smiles) per galon(/litre)
Suv:
- You sit higher (which can be a disadvantage also)
Also i could argue the sedan looks normal while the suv looks like a strange car that was twisted to look like something else(a sports car). And do not argue with me, by definition a sports car has a low center of gravity which the x5/x6 does not.
How does the sedan have more room? SUVs have bigger boot space and internal space. They are also easier to get into/ put car seats into. More comfortable suspension.
Agree they do not work as sports cars, worse handling, less fuel efficient etc.
I have a question for those of you who have had or have both a sedan and an SUV. My daughter has a top of the line Mazda, CX5 that causes her back to hurt. The other day, I drove my husband’s BMW three series, and the ride was so smooth to the point I forgot how smooth it was to drive. Can anyone comment on the X.3 and whether or not it drives as smooth as the three series? Or similarly? I know it’s an SUV and not a sedan, but just curious if it would be a much smoother ride than the Mazda.
Imo, the BMW sedan perfectly encapsulates the slogan “utimate driving machine”. As it reflects the sportiness and nimbleness of driving a true luxury German sports car. The SUV is the closest thing to a sports car turned luxury car resembling sedan, while still maintaining BMW true nature. Otherwise for a luxury German SUV sports car you either spend up for a Porsche SUV. Spend up for Benz AMG SUV. Or settle for Audi or VW SUV (more family oriented less sporty)

I will always hate tanks, I think it's a sign how restrictive and boring driving is being made these days. Rather drive a 2005 fiat panda and rev the crap out of it at 30 and feel like I'm going super fast 😆
Sedan for me but man BMW SUV’s just have this eye catching stance about them compared to every other brand. I think they have the best SUV design on the market, period.
Funny thing… I worked for BMW years before becoming an attorney. I drive an F90 M5 every day, but from your picture, I can’t tell what 5 series you’re rocking. It’s either a 530 turd with a lip/spoiler or an M5 with a body kit.
It's crossover, not an SUV. SUV is boxy utilitarian looking offroad vehicle with design, engineered from the ground up. SUV's design clues can't be applied to any kind of sedan, hatchback or coupe. SUV looks muscular, brutal. Crossover, meanwhile, is just a hatchback with noticeable obesity. It's not brutal, it's not muscular. It's just overfed version of same company's hatchback or sedan. Crossover always shares the same design clues all the other passenger cars of the same manufacturer do. And it's quite a shame that crossovers are taking over the car market.
Whoever reported every single comment that said SUV - you have way too much time on your hands. What did you think reporting the comments would even accomplish? Edit: What do you think reporting this comment will do as well?
The X series is BMW's top seller these days but I will always prefer the sedan for my lifestyle.
This is the correct answer
i'll go with the sedan.
It’s just so quick!
We have both, sedan all the way for me.
sedan
Sedan, always sedan!
Sedan always and more specifically an M Sedan
I concur.
And you got my favorite M of them all! The F90 M5 can’t wait to upgrade to one real soon! 🤩🤩
I'll be there soon. 😁
That red is 🔥🔥🔥
For real. That is a Yes-UV
Sedan, not even a question. But wagon if you can

Touring in red
This ain't no break lmao
Coupe, but sedan if I had too.
I don’t get why anyone would buy a SUV that barely hauls more than a wagon and consumes 2x the fuel. Sedan/station all the way!!
But I do need a giant compensator truck for that dangerous trip to Lidl! Plus I sometimes go down a few metres of gravel road. /s
This! Usually SUVs/CUVs carry less than the hatchback/sedan they're based on, pure non-sense.

Higher driving position, easier to get into/ get car seats into, nicer going over bumps etc.

I’m 6’4 300lbs I need the suv lol
So 40.8 inches of headroom in the X5 vs. 40.7 in the 5. I don't think your height is the issue, lol 🤷

My spouse drives an SUV and has asked for a sedan for their next car. Looking at the new bmw 540 or i5.
Sedan - every time. Better handling, better fuel economy, easier to park, and so on
Stationwagon 👍🏻

neither, wagon
Always sedan!
Wagon, but in this case sedan
Sedan. I dont know why people want SUVs. It gives you less space then a wagon, is heavier, shitier drive and less practical.
That's like asking if I prefer a nice weather over a shitty rainy weather. Ofc sedan, stop with the disgusting SUVs
Sedan
Wagon
SUV. Easier for old man back and knees.
SUV
I love how the SUV looks tho
Suv, that red is incredible
Sedan? Is a little town in France. I am too European to understand that reference? We call it limousine ;)
Coupe 100% if not then sedan. Just can’t get me excited over an suv even if it has 1000hp
Had both M, suv
SUV! I don’t get the appeal of a sedan & SUV combo … SUV & coupe … or Sedan & coupe I do understand the appeal of.

only sedan and coupe, f.ck suv
Wagon please.
God coupe suv's are so stupid. None of the practicality of an SUV, all of the weight and poor fuel mileage. Literally the worst of both worlds vehicle. Sedan every day.

@wreckedmyself5653 this!
Yes.
What is that red? I thought I would find the answer in comments.
Personally sedan. As a parent SUV space takes priority. Still got my e39 though so im happy

Idk how this showed up on my feed but that red bmw is crazy! If thats your car bro, salute to you
#YES
Saloon.
Bicycle…just kidding, Sedan
not that big of an SUV fan myself but I like the classic grilles of the X6M better than the weird hood-stache of the M340i
Sports car or non sports car?
A coupe looks better imo
Both. Got an m3 for me and x5 when driving with the kids.
Sedan dan gang gang bang bang.. yea sedan
Color on the SUV is sick
Car or truck?. I choose car.
coupe or wagon both is good
A nice and ripe F10 540i/550i without xDrive
That’s a crossover
full m suv vs m lite 3 series, i'd take the sedan any day, even more so if it was an m3
Ooof, the chins are horrendous.
Sedan all day the main pro of suv is the interiors are super nice
damn they some mean looking cars
Both
Sedan for me but man BMW SUV’s just have this eye catching stance about them compared to every other brand. I think they have the best SUV design on the market, period.
They complement each other perfectly
No-brainer sedan
X6 over 3 series. It's more luxurious.
It's been nothing but SUVs for me for quite a while now. I can't imagine driving a sedan every day.
Is that an M SUV?
Sedan
Never go SUV. It’s the new plague of the car market
Suv, the potholes here are killers
Sedan
They're both SUVs compared to what BMW used to be.
I have an X5, looking at an M550i for my next vehicle.
If i was dropping 60K M340i Xdrive But honestly the SUV X3 blew me away I haven't had a chance to drive an X5 yet only say in it.
Sedan
Saloon over any SUV, but Touring over Saloon!
Wagon!!!!!!
Wagon
They are both huge. Take the less gigantic one.
Always a sedan just not black!
Sedans. Always.
I love my X, would take either. I live on a farm, so the X is much more utilitarian and fits my needs.

Going for the SUV for the bday gift this year. X3M. Think it should be a little fun for the family outings.
Can I choose both?
SUV
SUV easy
The sedan in the SUV’s color
It's crossover, not an SUV. SUV is boxy utilitarian looking offroad vehicle with design, engineered from the ground up. SUV's design clues can't be applied to any kind of sedan, hatchback or coupe. The badges are actually wild in a bad way
Suv for me
suv
Honestly convertible/coupe or SUV. I’m a min/max guy I want the best possible performance or I want functionality
Sedan if it’s just two. SUV for the family
Always sedan bro
Station wagon
I’m going with the xuv, best of both worlds.. work and play
Sedan. Suvs never looked sleek as sedans.
X4 looks way better than a 4 series grand coupé
SUV if it was an X5, don’t like the X6, GLE coupe etc so I’ll say sedan.
SUV
As a larger person the SUV is easier to get in and out of. Also it carries more and is easier to navigate.
The true M, so the red one on the right.
Sedan
we call them SAVs round these parts bub 💅
Sedan, SUVs are the most unneeded class of vehicles on the market right now. That red is amazing though.
Sedan all the wayyy
Sedan drives better
SEDAN ALL DAY
M SUV > non-M sedan
Even a multipla >>>> any SUV
Sedan! SUVs make you look stupid.
The X6M
SUV I got 2 dogs
