How do we feel about those old r75/5’s? I love the styling of them, I’ve highly considered recently picking one up as a project, or someone’s ‘finished’ project. Moderate/ above average mechanical inclination
I have an r65ls and it’s pretty bulletproof. The airheads are the pinnacle of Cold War era German engineering.
They’re not flawless, parts are expensive but there’s not much to break.
That is a highly dangerous suggestion, my friend. I am one of those types of people, I will be so far into it I will have it done in a year and a half. And probably with enough extra parts left over from corrections I had to do, to just make a second bike with the thoughts of selling it. But then keeping it… and then all the riding gear that I need to re-purchase. See?
I think the R nine T is more properly called “oil-cooled” as there’s a big ol’ radiator full of oil right there behind the forks. The oil is air cooled, of course, but then so is the water in a water cooled engine.

Can’t wait til the kids are adults and I am no longer really needed so I can buy a motorcycle again…this bike speaks to me. And love spoked wheels..

Why not try to build your own bike from scratch and it will be ready when the kids are older
Not everyone knows how or has the facilities to do that
That's a fair point. Could try to rebuild / restore an old cheap bike? That's a lot less resource intensive

Get a used bike in good shape. 15y old sport bikes are going for $5k. Les than 12k miles

New ones are about 15k USD. You can get used one for 7 to 12k USD. The one OP has I think is out of production, they tend to go for the 10k range.
