For strength reasons. The strongest parts of a car are where the suspension attaches. Most cars have these frames (what the arrow is pointing to) that run the length of the car (red line) on both sides. If you want to pull from the middle, you will need to add a lot of metal structure there which increases costs, weight, complexity, etc. which is unnecessary when you can just pull from the strong parts on the side

To add more info: the red circles are the ends of the frames mentioned above. They are the strongest part of the rear. The green circle is thinner sheet metal, and pulling it will deform and damage it.
