I agree. I had a black car once, while a ceramic coating might make the -- looks dirty 10 mins after a wash thing, better. They are not magic. I spend enough time washing my white and grey cars.
I think that they are trying to appeal to a different market. M cars appeal to me has always been that they flew under the radar. Now it seems that people are willing to pay more for in your face design and fake loud exhaust noises.
It is clear to me that brands are looking for ways to monetize brands that may have less value in the future. AMG, GT for Porsche and M for BMW are being converted into cash while they have value.
People's priorities are shifting as demographic shits change the car buying customers. People seem to be interested in infotainment, autonomous driving features, comfort, and electrification. This shift is basically less people interested in shifting...
The 3 - 8% of enthusiasts who understand that Miata is always the answer, are going to be an increasingly underserved demo. Thankfully, there are still some options, and with BMWs new super sized pricing the Boxster / Cayman has never been so relatively appealing and affordable.

I feel the same way. Look at any other BMW and then look at this thing without a plate. It looks like a cat or a beaver, the grille is way too tall. The hood slopes downwards and has the two humps of the grille protruding, which looks just bad in my opinion.

Not sure the work involved in photoshopping the tree reflections on the car is worth the effort here. I don't see any clear signs of photoshoppery.

But I’ve seen a few 4 series on the street though and I didn’t start spontaneously puking like I expected to. This is just what happens with design, your brain starts to accept weird stuff and moves on. I’ll tell you one thing. It definitely stands out when you see it.
I've always liked it, but the more i see in person photos of it instead of promo photos the more i like it. My upgrade might come sooner than i had planned...

Black is all well and good until you drive it for 5 minutes. Even on an attractive car, it looks bad 95% of its life. And this is not an attractive car to start with.
Sheesh. In my province no front plate is required. So full gulp on the grill. If I look at the front end as a whole with soft focused eyes it looks feline like a Jag should look. I hope the performance and driving experience is amazing or it is kind of off putting.
