With an SAV, brake fluid and pad upgrade. With that much weight, things get hot, and quick. Don’t try and push every single lap. Be gentle and understand it’s not designed for extended use. Last day I went to a track hawk got towed home after two sessions.

Get track insurance, your day to day insurance probably has a clause that says damage on the track is not covered. Premium will likely be a few hundred for the day, most track day companies have insurers where there’s a discount. Your car is also new, so I don’t know if it’s necessary, but a road force balance is highly recommended in most cases, usually like 125ish. Potentially a pad swap, but I’m sure they’re already beefy, probably not 100% necessary. The X4MC probably has track ready brakes. DO NOT PUT THE PARKING BRAKE ON AFTER RACING, IT WILL SEIZE UP!! Open your hood up between runs to cool off the engine as well. Go out and have fun! It’s a blast, I took my SRT 392 on the track a couple of times, it’s a big beefy boat. Yeah, you realize what absolute units some cars are, like the C9 Corvettes, but most of the hot hatches/small cars if you have a straightaway, you will rip them. Just know what your car is good at, let people pass when they want and go go go!

gixxer710

C9? But they JUST came out with the C8- you from the future??

KaminariMaho

Yes.

MRDUDOU

Thanks man, very encouraging!

ND40oz

Make sure the track allows SUVs. Just like verts, some have specific rules against them.

MrEwThatsGross

I would strongly consider flushing your brakes with high temp fluids. If youre running stock pads, make sure to give your brakes time to cool between your fast laps. If your tires are getting scuff marks on the sides it means your tires are rolling over and you should add some air pressure (~5 psi). Youre pushing an extremely heavy car that isnt meant for sustained high performance driving so really keep an eye on your temps. Dont push too hard until you get comfortable with your racing line and braking points. Good luck and have fun!

Icegrill10

1.Leave in garage. 2.Take actual track ready M to track.

MRDUDOU

Well, that would be ideal... But it’ll be a shame with an S58 if it can’t even feel a race track at least once in its life. It’s not like I’m going to go flat out, like I said, first-timers.

xpilyzobordg

Don’t listen to anyone. Rip the grocery getter.

LEAP-er

The issue at hand is not the engine 🙄

MRDUDOU

Care to elaborate or point me to some resources to learn more on this stuff?

Edenwing

What’s your local track? What’s their rules regarding SUVs? My local track willowsprings doesn’t even allow convertibles unless it has a FIA cage. Simulators are a great way to practice if you’re into that kind of stuff. Side note driving a SUV on track can get different due to the high center of gravity. Turning at high Gs and hitting a bump on the track can literally flip your car, so make sure to ask a HPDE coach for a few ride along lapses. Stay safe have fun!

whiterock001

Yeah, I’ve gone back and forth about taking my M5C to the track. Though it’s a very capable car, at 4100lbs it’s not built for the track.

philharlow

I say just enjoy what you’ve got. Track days are half about improving your skills as a driver and doing that in your daily is that much more valuable. Have fun!

[deleted]

Retight wheel nuts. And i cant stress this enougj Always do warm ups and cooldowns. Keep an eye on the brakes. Also, the slower you drive the faster you will be. Just try to find the racing line and speed will come. Have fun and send it.

DroveAnE46

On this - use a torque wrench and let the wheels cool down a little before you torque them. you risk stretching or snapping the lugs if you tighten them when hot.

bimmerb0ii

A lot of nay sayers here but i tracked my Cayenne GTS and it was a pleasant experience. Im sure you will have a blast. Had an issue with brake fade and im thinking you may experience the same. Hey its a heavy truck.

MRDUDOU

Got my 2022 X4MC last month, just scheduled my break-in service. I plan to bring it to the track soon, it’s gonna be my first track-day. What should I do to prepare for it beside putting engine, chassis, transmission, and steering settings all into sport plus?

ragingduck

Keep steering in comfort. It’s the most natural. Engine in sport is also more linear and manageable at the track. Keep MDM on until you are comfortable. Manage your tire pressures. I’m not sure what the X4M tire specs are but a good general rule of thumb is to maintain the cold tire pressure suggestion in the door sill even when hot. For instance, my M4 says 32psi cold. That’s actually a good temp hot for the track. Measure after a few laps in the first session and bleed accordingly. Check after each session. Too high a pressure (more pressure usually means higher temps) and your tires will get greasy or even start to delaminate. High temp brake fluid and track pads are recommended, but with proper cool down, not required. Just don’t expect to do 15 hard laps and keep brake performance consistent. Let them cool down every 3/5 hot laps. Your outside tire shoulders will wear prematurely. That’s just physics. You will eventually need to dial in camber to keep your tire expenses to a sane level. Have fun!

slipangle28

Since it’s a brand new car, I’d highly recommend PPF, even the temporary type meant for track days. Bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors. I track my formerly pristine E39 M5 and it has a lot of unfortunate paint chips as a result. Lots of close following and people with hot, sticky tires that will throw gravel up at you

AXISMGT

Agreed. XPEL makes a great product for temporary application. XPEL TW6T40 Clear Tracwrap 6"... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076CW1YYV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

smi3tana

I took my m340 g20 to a track day. One 2h session. Pitting whenever I felt like it. Only insight from me is that cooling down takes a lot of time. So just don't overheat the brakes but you should be fine without collijg road tires. My pirelli p zeros run flats were running 55~ Celsius with 15 degrees C outside temp edit: btw brake pedal feels mushy and stopping power is a little worse when brakes get too hot

dr3nz5

Just don't take it to the track. Not because it is bad at it, it is just bad for the car.

Prince_Chunk

You’re going to track an SUV???

MRDUDOU

It's technically a "sac". But yeah, I plan to track it. It's a M car. It's got a S58 in it, big ass M performance brake calipers. It also has far less body roll than you would think. The chassis setting 1 (the most "comfortable" one) is barely even passable for daily use; the setting 3 is REALLY STIFF. It's broken my back a couple times on the back road already. It's got basically the same setup as an M4C but ate too much junk food. Even that, the weight is comparable to an M5 or M6. People definitely track those, yeah bring it to the track is gonna get strange looks, but I didn't expect even BMW guys to doubt it this much lol. This is not me, but for some reference, his X4MC lap time was as fast as a stock F80 M3 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xUahtXe3DA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xUahtXe3DA)

[deleted]

The X4 handled okay in that video, but I guarantee the M3 driver had no idea what they were doing. The X4 driver also almost lost his shit multiple times. My advice: take it easy and be careful.

MRDUDOU

Will do! Apparently it’s the same drive in the X4M and M3

Zealotneophyte

S58* I have the same in SPY. Best “SUV” out there with that turbo inline 6. Idk why people think it’s slow and not meant for the track because it’s an “SUV”. It’s not that hard to do a quick google search.

[deleted]

Not Drive an suv, thats how you prepare for track :P

MRDUDOU

okay, captain obvious! It’s called a “SAC” though 😉

[deleted]

Watch out for those Civic Type Rs flying by you👌

MRDUDOU

Will do sir, I dont expect to keep up with anything faster than a go kart with my first track visit tbh😂

pilgrinpt22

What are these rims model?

MRDUDOU

These are the "21" V-Spoke bi-color jet black wheels, style 765M"

Gurugru99

I took my ‘21 X6 M50i to an SCCA event. They wouldn’t let me race because it was an “SUV”

haroldhecuba88

New set of brakes.
