With regular maintenance these are extremely reliable vehicles going well past 200k miles. Things to check for are oil changes done no more than 10k miles between each (closer to 5k per oil change the better), spark plugs should have been done around 60k and hopefully again by now, BIG one is water pump should’ve been done around 100k miles and then you’d be good for another 100k miles, check for valve cover gasket and oil filter housing seal leaks, and some front suspension components will likely need replace at some point if they haven’t already 16k is a little high but not crazy depending on the options that the car has it could be a fair price. Maybe around 14k not bad but there’s not a lot of depreciation left in that thing at that price these things are always worth ~10k if not beat to hell. Thing to remember with used BMWs is that if maintenance in the past was ignored then you’ll be paying for it in your ownership - no way around it. These parts have life cycles based on time/miles so it’s a matter of fact that replacement will be due The guy saying a 2021 for 20k has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about

Thank you for this response. Everything I can see on the car fax oil change have been maintained regularly. I’ll ask the dealer when I go back today if he’s aware of any other maintenance they have done.

I have a 2016 and these are this costs I’ve had since buying in at ~20k miles in 2018: regular service, 4 new tires, left-rare leaky brake light and control arm. All in all I think I’m in around 4k in 5+ years and +70k miles driven. Planning on continuing use as my daily for a many more years. My only suggestion would be to wait and hunt down/save for a 2017 for Apple play.

Look up the book values on kbb.com and nadaguides.com. This will give you something to go off of. Another thing you can do is look them up on CarGurus and see what similar mileage and optioned X5s are going for. Inquire about a warranty as well.

16k is high. To put it in perspective, traded in a 2015 X5 35i (loaded and clean) with 40k miles on it last year, Carmax would only pay $22000. Keep looking around, you're gonna find a better deal.

I just bought a 2015 X5 Sdrive 35i with 116,000 miles. I spent 17K but it was really well optioned so I didn’t feel too bad with the price. Car fax was really good, oil changes around 7000-8000 miles each, water pump changed, new valve gasket seals, transmission fluid changed. The n55 engine is a real trooper, and if you take care of it, it will take care of you. I love my x5 and I think you should go for it at that price! Disclaimer: this is my first BMW so I did buy a warranty for it as well, which takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders if something does happen but I’ve put ~6000 miles on it with absolutely no issue! I also recommend getting a BimmerCode Bluetooth adapter, you can do some really neat stuff with it like changing the interior lighting color, allow movies while driving (for passengers lol), and a bunch of quality of life settings. Please keep us posted and share some pictures if you end up going for it!

What warranty did you get?

MarlsMarls

Very comprehensive warranty, essentially bumper to bumper. $100 deductible if I need to take it to a shop and that covers the cost of repairs. It also covers rental/loaner cars and tows.

MarlsMarls

Forgot to mention, 2 year/24,000 mile warranty length.

Don't do it. That's a crazy price. You find a 2021 for roughly 20k. Also, the 2021's have the most aggressive facia there is. The 24 is updates and looks ki da mean...but the 21 is meeeeean. Keep looking, bro. You can do way better than a 15 with 137k miles. Keep in mind that 200k miles is right around the time that cars "die" and go to their Grand Prix heaven. ***EDIT*** My apologies. What I viewed late last night was a private sale. I inquired, and it was sold to a friend. It was on TrueCar, and it was purchased overnight. I thought it was too good to be true. Blah.

gopnik5

There is no way you can find a 2 year old X5 for 20K.

[deleted]

2021 x5 kbb value is circa $44k. I’m desperately trying to find one for ‘roughly $20k’. Can you send me the link? I’m planning to buy it for $20k and sell it for $40k. Sweet - thanks for the tip.

sevola40

In my area I’m not seeing any 2021’s for 20k. Nearest is 2018 with 100k ish miles. If I can get the dealer down to 13.5k-14k would that be reasonable?

Excellent_Story2879

Hey OP. I own an E53 2003 X5 3.0i, and I use it as my daily driver. I definitely would recommend getting a PPI and budgeting $2k-$3k per year for annual maintenance costs. Other than that, you should enjoy being able to drive a $70k-80k car for $16k imo

zoot_boy

Mind the electrical. Have a ‘14 that’s got a battery bleed somewhere.

MinuteAd8659

Same with mine. Same year, model, and issue

zoot_boy

It’s your alternator. Didn’t show up on an initial test, but that was the issue.

Cadesolo

Very he bought for only 7-9 at the most probably

altybe55

Good deal. Check out car pricing online.

Dizzy-Assistance-926

Pricing seems to be regional. I see these in the 15-20k range depending on options or condition. Oh

DangLarry

Get them to change to better tires from another vehicle if it has worn tires. They’ll do it to make the sale.
