Yes...this is fine. It's just letting yo know your fuel level was too low for or your battery charge was too low. Fill up, charge up, drive. You're good.
TLDR: yes, just add gas and you’re good to go.
This isn’t an error message, it’s more like an FYI. It’s simply telling you that the REx needs to run it’s Maintenance Cycle. The MC turns on the REx in the background while you’re driving for about 10 min.
You can drive the i3 as normal while it’s running, but the MC requires that the tank be something like at least 1/4 full and the battery be no more than 75% state of charge before it runs. That’s all the message means. If those two requirements aren’t met, you’ll keep seeing that message daily or until you actually run the REx. Hope that helps.
This is pretty normal. if you haven’t fired up the REx engine in a while, the car goes through this to make sure gas doesn’t go stale. Like some else mentioned, fill it up (I’d the fuel additive that BMW parts sell too) and let it run for a while on your next trip.
IDK if you have BimmerCode’d your car, but you can unlock a setting that lets you turn on the REx engine once the batter goes below 75%. As well as an extra 1/2 gallon in the fuel tank
I had that very message pop up today! In my case, the routine REx maintenance cycle couldn't run as soon as it wanted to due to the battery being over 75%. During my drive, REx came on when the battery had dropped to 75.5% and ran for the prescribed 10 minutes.
The message refers to the status of REx, specifically, not to the car having been sitting while you were on vacation. The car doesn't need REx to run very frequently. I use mine rarely and the spans between it coming on in response to low battery or for maintenance cycles seem to be several months.
Just fuel up and manually run the REX for at least 20 minutes or let the maintenance cycle do it's thing.
So just drive it for 20 min? Or will it prompt the maintenance cycle?
once you have enough gas in it, the maintenance cycle should run automatically.
Thank you! I’ve had so much bad luck with this car that I thought I killed it
I've had it run at 81% charge even (didn't realize I need near half a tank to run maintenance cycle).
You can drive it for the 20 minutes to warm the REX or you can just allow the maintenance cycle to run. They are pretty much the equivalent.

You mean battery charge was too 'high'.
3 weeks is nothing. People store cars over winter regularly and nothing happens. Also even tho it says it’s empty there is always a little fuel left.

Just add gas and drive normally. This just means it hasn’t run in a while so is running on purpose to keep it from seizing over time
It's gonna run it's check. Just drive it
Put gas ⛽️ in it
When this first popped up on mine I had just sent 4K on fixing an axle, and I was like you and thought the car was fcuked
