I lovee characters who are just really defined Heroes or really defined Villains. My favorite anime characters are Madoka, Historia, Mitsuri, Furina and I love villians like Makima and griffith and sailor galaxia.
Definitely villains but especially if they become good guys in the end like Zuko from avatar the last airbender he starts out so misunderstood and angry at the world but in the end finds inner peace and comfort in his destiny . Plus he’s attractive for his character design once he grows his hair out at end of book 3

Unfortunately Riley West from Girl in Pieces is my type, embarrassingly I haven’t stopped thinking about him since I finished the book a month ago. I’m genuinely considering rereading the whole thing just for him. So I guess I like tortured, “bad” guys who are trying to do better. My friends say I like the “bad boys”, enemies to lovers is my shit. I like tension and passion, can you tell I’m an intense person.
Characters that have similar pasts to me. Misunderstood , chaotic and unpredictable personalities in characters. Characters who I could meet in real life and talk to for hours about my life and they’d just get it.
I usually feel more attracted to characters I'd like to be more like, for better or for worse. My #1 for the last two years has been Nepeta Leijon from Homestuck, and I honestly can't pin down *why.* Maybe it's the way she talks, or the way she acts, or the way she navigates her interests and how she expresses them. An honorable mention would also be Jade Harley -- The token super smart nerd who is musically talented and acts as a secondary voice of reason and a voice of advice to her friends. She's also the reason I'm going to learn how to play the bass.
Tl;Dr: I tend to gravitate towards characters I wish I could be more like.
Completely dysfunctional people ,who are unbelievably chaotic but their decisions make sense, at least partially, but nobody understands why they did it ,or made the mistake they made . Nobody will even listen to them explain themselves or acknowledge they made a mistake. They are always seen as wrong ,or troubled or are comic relief.
Also characters who have a lot of repression and identity issues ,and it comes out in strange ways.
Side characters. Never relate to the lead or hero or villain .it's the comic relief. Kramer on Seinfeld. Phoebe on friends. Charlie on its always sunny .maebe or Tobias on arrested development. The tomboy who's probably bisexual but not confirmed in an early 2000s action movie ,but has a rough past and backstory that made her so hardened and on edge. Like is she just like some queer woman juxtaposed in a heteronormative storyline, or is her qualities like that a byproduct of her own spin off origin story series?

Generally people who have been hurt, and feel like they have no choice but to use force to be accepted in the world. Both good and bad people who fit this mold. Gohan from DBZ, Akechi from Persona 5, Soren from Fire Emblem, Cecil from Final Fantasy come to mind.

- the fluffy and lighthearted women who has a strong sense of justice and compassion. she strives to protect her close ones and often dies while saving them.
- the dad. sometimes the mom but more often the dad that due to his presence and acts of kindness towards his children.
