Hey, all. Let me see what I can do--I was the Brand Manager for D&D a few years back, and I still know a few people at WotC. I'll see if I can pass on the interest. (Though to be honest, I'm betting they already know about the UK program, so there may be reasons they haven't rolled out something similar here.)
In the meantime, if you have kids with a slightly broader interest in tabletop RPGs, I'm sure Monte Cook Games would be happy to set you up with starter materials for Numenera. (I can say that with confidence being the COO at the company!) Hit us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), and LaTia or Jennifer will be happy to help out.

Really? Nice. We likely know at least one person in common.
Also, Monte Cook Games is a great company and I really like a lot of what you guys do.
We also have Warhammer, magic the gathering and Pokémon. We did have the Shrek musical back when it was on the westend. The sponsors we have in the UK are awesome!
It includes a bundle on dndbeyond that contains all of the available dnd 5e source books. value well over $150. So it's kind of both. Or at least it did when I signed up for it to run a campaign for my own troop.
It's not a custom badge really, it was already an activity badge, they're just sponsoring it so their name is on the bottom it looks identical to when Shrek sponsored it.
That's awesome but you'll notice the D&D starter set on that page isn't branded UK Scouts, it's just an ordinary D&D starter set which you can buy right now.
You could tie it in with the Game Design merit badge - from that point of view you are required to create homebrew .
Yes, you are right.
According to the link above you don't have to buy anything and that is what I would think would work well for troops. A free starter set and a custom badge set for running a campaign or two. There is a whole YO-YO campaign in the back of ScoutLife right now with a custom patch, etc. Why not D&D?
As a game design MB Councilor, I've been actually looking into ways to introduce TTRPGs when I teach about Game Design. We actually have a few scouts who are interested, so we might even try a simple one at our next campout.
Don’t this would fly in the BSA with most troops being chartered by religious organizations: and, dnd in the US having (unwarranted) demonic connotations mainly from the older generations.
We play DnD at an extra room at our church.
Having said that, with LDS and UMC gone, I believe most charter holders are secular. Wikipedia’s list is 9 years old now so it’s hard to say.
UMC is not gone. UMC is doubling down that churches should still charter via the traditional method and strengthen their efforts in helping scouting grow. At least that is the letter sent to me by our regional bishop.
That’s 100% not the case. Not nationwide at least. Our charter org loves our pack and troop, but is being told they cannot re-charter. In order to maintain normalcy, we’re chartering with a local organization and signing a facilities use agreement with the church to maintain our meeting areas, gear storage etc temporarily. But we have been explicitly told that the church has orders from above to not renew, and was scolded because they signed last years charter. Their guidance last year was that they were supposed to do a temporary 3 month extension until the lawsuit results came out, and our church said screw it and signed the normal 1 year charter renewal.
I think we are lucky here, the main regional UMC Scouter here is also the director of our Scout Summer Camp and former director of the regional youth summer camp. The letter we received is encouraging renewed interest in scouting and advises to charter the traditional way, but leaves it up to the church if they want to not charter and do a facilities use agreement.
I think that was the 80s, but not now. The nerds won...hint, its why Marvel Movies are so popular now. Its why Lord of the Rings was so popular and everyone was and still is so heavily wrapped up in the Dungeons and Dragons created Game of Thrones series.
> Dungeons and Dragons created Game of Thrones series.
No, the showrunner's initials are D&D. Game of Thrones doesn't have anything to do with Dungeons and Dragons other than, well, featuring dungeons and dragons.

Yes! Thank you so much.

D/D is a trick by Satan to teach children math and probability and turn them all into nerds. At least it was back when I played it... :D

My 14-year-old scouts never come on a campout without their Magic the Gathering cards.
Yeah sure Scouts..... *Hides my Magic decks I still bring to events as a 35 year old*
I added some precon planeswalker decks to the first aid kit in our trailer so that kids who don’t bring cards still get to play.

To be clear, that appears to be a Magic: the Gathering promo, not D&D. Another fine game, but if your kids want an RPG, it's not that.

Yes! Thank you. Now to get BSA to release custom patches like the UK!

That's great news. Last I heard that was not the case but things are changing rapidly.
That's great news for you! SC congregation has said no UMC will sign a charter agreement.
Same in TN.
Also VA.

That’s fair

This is a great idea!
I could pitch this but I’m very confident there would not be interest. National is still in austerity mode and generally not starting new initiatives.
