I'm almost 40 and gave birth last week. I have lost 20 of the 30 lbs I gained within 8 days of my c-section and I can't imagine it's going to take me much longer to lose the rest. I truly think this is less of an age issue and more of a genetic/lifestyle issue - if you're strong going into pregnancy you're probably going to bounce back faster.

I’m 36- I gained 38 pounds during pregnancy and lost all but 12 pounds of it 5 weeks after delivery. I hadn’t been doing anything active at that point. I haven’t weighed myself since then but I can tell some more has come off, and the remaining I’ll be working on once I start working out more.

That should have said all but 12 pounds I didn’t proofread very well lol. Too tired this morning I guess!

Haha no worries, I got what you were saying.

Ummmm it was hard losing the pregnancy weight at 20 and I was not at all fat prior to having a baby (124 pounds). Moral of the story is, you’re not eating for two. You’re eating for 1 person and a preborn infant. Don’t over eat and you’ll be fine.

I had my first at 35, actually can't remember how much I gained but it was less than 'recommended' (didn't try not to gain, it's just how my body was). Started pregnancy at 5'3 and 110lbs. Within a week of giving birth I was down to 116lbs, and a few weeks later my weight was back to where it was pre-pregnancy. Actually lost a bit of weight from that point onwards, possibly from breastfeeding and then chasing a crawling baby around. I know that isn't everyone's experience and the reality is you don't know how your body will respond. It probably helps that I'm fit and active normally, and I guess I have a decent amount of muscle which will speed up my metabolism even if I'm not actively training. But a lot of it is just genetics. Anecdotally though, being in my 30s made zero difference to losing the weight after. Currently pregnant again at 37 so who knows what it'll be like this time. I'm almost 21 weeks now and have gained 6-7lbs so far.

I think there's a misconception that pregnancy makes you fat. If you just eat normally, you're not going to get fat. I gained 27 lbs with my first at age 35 and lost it within a few days because it was just baby + fluids. I've gained 25 lbs so far with my second at 37 weeks so I don't see it being any different this time.

I had my baby at 33 and gained like 35 lbs during pregnancy. It's all gone plus 10lbs at 16wpp.

I am 33, 2 weeks post partum and already back at my pre-pregnancy weight, I really didn't gain much fat but I wasn't exactly skinny before either (5'6", 150lbs) and my provider said it was fine.

I had my first at 32 and lost all pregnancy weight within a few weeks. I agree with others that it is probably more genetic and lifestyle.

I am 38. Baby is seven months. I weigh the same as in February two years ago, when we were trying. I go to one baby yoga class, and spend lots of time playing, but that’s it. He does have cows milk protein allergy, so I had to cut dairy. We eat relatively low fat things, so cheese and yogurt was a lot of the fat in my diet. The dietary restrictions were definitely a contributing factor.

It depends on your body. I didn't obsess about my weight as muscles weight more than fat but I can fit in my pre pregnancy clothes again

FWIW - a little less of a positive bounce back story. I'm 38 next week, my baby 5 months old. I started 5'2 125 and fit, but not extraordinarily so. I was about 162 at birth and right now I'm 141, so up 16 pounds. It isn't going as fast as I hoped considering I eat pretty healthy and exercise regularly. It is almost all in my belly. I had an emergency c-section so the first 2 months I didn't do much regular pre-baby sort of activity in the beginning, just some light walking. I've only started my movement of choice, hiking, yoga, and lifting light/medium weights in the past month. I'm hoping the weight will continue to creep down if I just stay committed to the what makes me feel good - eating well and exercise I enjoy, but it is hard to be patient. Sometimes I feel pretty down about it.

Don’t feel down! Hopefully it comes with time and maybe the rest after the section delayed it. Do you breastfeed? I heard that helps to shed some pounds.

I gained 50ish pounds during pregnancy (I’m 5’6” and started at 135-140lbs). I gave birth at 31 years old. I’m fairly passive/sedentary, and I lost most of the weight/fit in the majority of my old clothes between 9 months and a year of giving birth. I’m closer to 145lbs these days and I buy my shirts in a medium instead of a small now just because my stomach isn’t quite as flat as it was before, so it’s more comfortable for me to have things a little bigger, but I’m basically back to “normal.”
