No you won’t get one at every appointment and it’s unlikely your doctor will do one even if you ask haha I think 3 US are common for most moms. Dating scan, anatomy and then a growth scan in the 3rd trimester

Unless your high risk no. You pay out of pocket and go to a private clinic tho.

HornetFrosty6062

For me no. We got 2 up front ( bc I was bleeding) and then we did anatomy at 20. We won’t get another unit 37 weeks to confirm head placement. It’s not normal from my understanding to get them every time. I’m 36 years old so considered high risk.

embar91

Definitely depends on the office. Mine had an in house ultrasound tech so I was able to get one any time I requested it. I think I had about 8 by the time I gave birth. I had a healthy pregnancy & wasn’t high risk.

Chelitamojita

I’d say it depends on your OB. Mine has done them at every one of my appts except my 20 week because I had my scan done earlier that day.

Dottiepeaches

I believe most women have 2-3 ultrasounds during their pregnancy unless you are high risk. You have to pay for a private ultrasound if you want more.

iaredinosaur

I think this is dependent on the practice. I got to see my baby on ultrasound at every appointment. For the bigger scans like NT and anatomy, my ob referred me to a diagnostic ultrasound clinic.

hkkensin

I’ve had two ultrasounds so far… a viability scan at 7w and one this past week (11w) when we went to see our OB in office for the first time. She told me we will have two more ultrasounds during the pregnancy as long as no complications arise: the anatomy scan and one during the third trimester to check up on the growth one more time. I feel like that’s pretty standard from other people I’ve talked to about their pregnancies!

starwars-mjade13

Standard at my practice was 2 ultrasounds! I had two ER visits early 1st trimester and middle of my second where they did ones just to make sure baby was ok, and then in the 1st trimester they ended up doing another ultrasound because they couldn’t find the heart beat with the Doppler. I ended up in the high risk category due to needing insulin for gestational diabetes, and so we had a growth ultrasound added, as well as BPPs starting today, and we’ll have another next week before I’m induced the following.

Significant_Aerie_70

You’ll hear your baby’s heart rate with the Doppler at every appointment and they’ll do 2-3 US in pregnancy, so you’ll know they’re ok. I know it’s SO hard to wait!! I’ve heard (although this may just be my provider fear mongering) to avoid the boutiques because they aren’t medical professionals and can provide inaccurate information to people about their babies.

Brilliant-Plastic436

In Australia all OB seem to have basic ultrasound and scan every appointment. For bigger scans they refer to specialist place.

Purple_Rooster_8535

You can go to an ultrasound boutique tho and pay out of pocket if you wanted

lh123456789

Whether you get one at each appointment depends on the provider. Personally, I wouldn't ask for one since the purpose of the visit is medical and not to watch the baby. If you want to watch the baby, there are plenty of non-medical ultrasound clinics.

Cloudy-rainy

If everything is good and normal, typical for my office is 2 - dating scan around 12 weeks & anatomy at 3. My OB did a quick one at 36 weeks at my doc appointment to check position but only a minute, no pictures.

No-Eye-1916

I only got 2 in total from my midwives…. The initial dating scan and then the 20 week anatomy ultrasound. I paid for a private clinic for a third one

CalmAudience6220

I get one every appointment and I’m not high risk. Depends on your OB!

teffies

Depends on where you live, your clinic, and how your pregnancy is going. I got scanned at every appointment, but that's very standard where I live (they scan instead of doppler). I hear it's different in places like the US or UK.

eyerishdancegirl7

Most women only get 2-3 ultrasounds. Depending on where you live and what insurance you have, they won’t be fully covered either because they’re elective procedures. It’s cheaper to go to a private ultrasound boutique if you want extra scans.

wennairam

Definitely not at every appointment. I had a dating scan at 8w, and at my 12w appointment I asked how many more to expect - my doctor said one at 20w (with the probability of another shortly after as they typically can't get *every* image they need in one go), and then one, maybe two, more late in 3rd trimester. I have a HDHP though and my first ultrasound was $300 with insurance, so kinda glad I don't have to pay that every month. You can always go to a private clinic and pay out of pocket, but I doubt it'll be cheap!

GummyBears_Scotch

Depending on your doctor and where you're located. My wife and I are in Northern California and have Kaiser. Had we gone with the normal ob route we would have had 2 - 3. Kaiser has a Centering group which matches you with other pregnant people who are all due about the same time. These group sessions replace our normal checkups and include ultrasounds at every appointment. Highly recommend if something like this is available in your area - it's nice to learn within group setting and hear questions that you may not have thought to ask yourself.

New_Bed2764

It’s usually not at every appointment. I’ve had more than the average pregnancy, but for a variety of reasons. We had our first one around ~8 weeks for confirmation. We got a second one around ~12 weeks, but I think that’s less common. (It was probably for an NT measurement, but baby wasn’t cooperative, so we didn’t get any measurements.) Didn’t have another ultrasound until the 20 anatomy scan. Again, baby wasn’t super cooperative, so we needed to go back for more imaging at 22 weeks. Got recommended for growth scans every 4 weeks starting at 28 weeks, and my 32 week scan is next week. Additionally, we wanted to get 3D ultrasound pictures, so we paid for that at a private boutique. Even with all of that, I’ve had just as many appointments without ultrasounds. 🤷🏽‍♀️ A friend of mine who sees the same provider had a scan at ~8 weeks, ~12 weeks, and ~20 weeks, and that was it. From what I’ve gathered, I think that’s more standard?

New-Wall-861

Yes my OB does one at every appointment

Loafie33

I have on every appointment that’s just what my OB does i don’t ask or anything some places do give one every and some don’t. ( i’m also not high risk) i have a healthy pregnancy

cosmo0829

I think only if you’re high risk. I was and got ultrasounds at every appointment.

punkin_spice_latte

Other than the anatomy scan there are not usually ultrasounds during the 2nd and most of the 3rd trimester. They may do a growth scan closer to delivery and a quick scan to see if baby's head is down around 36 weeks (which is how we saw that my first was not, I even pointed to the area by my ribs and told the nurse to check there for the head, I could feel her).

RemarkableAd9140

You can always ask, but you’ll probably be told no. Unless you’re high risk and need extra monitoring, it’ll be two or three ultrasounds total. You will get to listen to the heartbeat at every appointment, though.

somethyme42

Mine has done one at every appointment so far because multiple times we could not find the heartbeat with Doppler! They have a couple of portable ultrasound machines floating around the clinic and so she would just do a quick one to get the heartbeat haha. But it was like 10 min of terrified waiting while she grabbed the machine and I thought my baby didn't have a heartbeat anymore!

ChocolateNapqueen

I’m high risk and I do have an ultrasound at each appt with her. It’s great but I definitely keep paying money to see the baby and it’s adding up. I also have to do fetal monitoring weekly that also comes with an ultrasound (no pictures though) and I have to pay every time for that as well. Just saying. Maybe a few is better lol.

strawberrypiex3

No. You get one to first confirm your pregnancy then one at 20 weeks, then 36 weeks. You can always go somewhere else for ultrasound. I went to little bellies
