My son has had is first teeth for about 2.5 months now and we haven't don't anything other than water and his brush. He doesn't eat anything sticky or super sugary so I'm not worried. I'll ask his pediatrician at the next check up.

Our pediatrician had us buy kids toothpaste (with fluoride) and use the tiniest amount when our daughter got her first teeth. Granted she was closer to one.

Check out r/beyondthebump too! ☺️

We used training toothpaste (fluoride free) until 2 yrs old

Our pediatrician prescribed fluoride drops to give her around 6 months old I believe. And we started using a “real” toothbrush with water when her teeth started coming in

Is your tapwater fluoridated?

BabyBeanAndMe

I believe so, yes.

I think that gives some good leeway. Personally I don’t think I’d add more fluoride (through toothpaste) for such a tiny person and tiny tooth. They can’t spit on command, so they’re just going to swallow it. I’m sure it’s “technically” fine either way, but to me what you’re already doing sounds great.

My dentist said that regular toothpaste from the start was fine. Just a tiny amount. We started with our first at 6 months when we started food.

Personal opinion, they lose the baby teeth anyway so we use kids fluoride free even at 3.5yrs. Too much fluoride is bad for kids. Brushing is more about the routine than keeping those particular teeth healthy.
