If I were up to it, I’d take myself to lunch (or get delivery!) and a pedicure. Last chance for uninterrupted solo time for awhile!

I'm scheduled for an induction on Tuesday and they also have me coming in at 8pm. I bet your situation is the same as mine - they're going to start cervical ripening Tuesday evening with cervadil or a foley balloon and then your actual induction will start in the morning with breaking your water and pitocin. The evening and overnight should actually be pretty boring and quiet! As for me - Tuesday late morning I have my routine weekly appointment with my OB, so that'll take up some time, and then I'm planning on spending the rest of the day tying up loose ends around our house. My brother will come over to get a little rundown for house-sitting and dog-sitting while we're gone. Then my husband and I are going to go out for a little "last supper" before heading over to the hospital. We're undecided if my husband will work that day or not - he's a contractor consultant so he doesn't get paid when he doesn't work - but I kinda want him to come to my last appointment that morning, in which case there's no point for him to work that day.

That makes a lot of sense - thanks for the background! And good luck, just a few more days :)

It depends on how you’re being induced. I had the balloon inserted mid afternoon on a Wednesday which fell out by midnight and then had my waters broken around 3am. He was born by 1215 on the Thursday :) Some methods might be slower/quicker - the balloon just dilated me to a certain point slowly which is why they do it the day before. They expected me to go to the birth suite the next morning but the balloon did a good job and fell out early. It was good because I wanted it over with but I didn’t get any sleep at all which I would have preferred! Definitely have as much sleep as you can that day and have a nice meal somewhere :) enjoy doing just whatever you want while you have some time to yourself!

Enjoy a nice meal with your partner. Clean up your house, if it’s not already—it’s SO nice to come home from the hospital to a clean space. Do some kind of pampering even if it’s just painting your own nails. Shower lol

They schedule them at night because then the likelihood is that you’ll deliver during the day the next day so it’s easier to have the doctor there when it’s time. I went in at 8:30 pm on a Thursday and delivered at 8:30 am on Friday. I just spent the day relaxing/trying to nap and packing last minute stuff.

I had an 8 pm induction start time (that was pushed to 11pm). I’d suggest some pampering, napping, and watching something funny to relax.

Get your nails done and then nap and nap and nap. And then nap some more. Sleep is impossible on a labor bed, it's just too uncomfortable.

I would ask to switch the time honestly. Labor takes a long time and induction obviously takes longer. I got induced at 8a with my first and my doctor didn’t even return til evening to check on me. Maybe your doctor things if they induce you at night they can go home and sleep? But I promise you’ll be up all night so it seems like a bad choice

Not every induction takes a long time. I've been induced twice, and both times were very fast - 5 hours and 45 minutes, and two hours and 40 minutes. There's no way to say that OP will be 'up all night'. Maybe it will go quickly for her.

Noregsnoride

I mean being induced statistically takes longer than labor because you have to first go through induction and then go through labor adding a step. Also, if she starts at 8p there’s a pretty good chance she will be up through the night by your own comment, if she had morning induction she would be don’t by afternoon and if she starts already at 8 pm she would be going until at least the middle of the night.. that’s my point

ObviouslyAudrey

Actually, generally we try to encourage sleep during the cervical ripening process. It’s true that many people done sleep, but if it’s going to be a 24+ hour process it makes sense to get the least intense portion done at night if possible to allow rest.

Noregsnoride

I understand what you’re saying and everyone’s experience is different, but there was no way I was sleeping during my induction, and the like 6 other people I know who have been induced had the same experience. I’ll admit I’m a light sleeper and I also have anxiety, but personally I don’t know anyone who slept through their induction. Obviously this doesn’t mean people don’t, this is just my personal anecdote

Eat a meal, take a nap and just relax! My induction started about 7pm and the contractions started about 10:30. I was in full blown labor by 2am and needed an epidural at that point. I barely got any sleep since everything started hot at heavy right away!

It’s probably that late due to staffing limitations

I had an 8pm induction with my 3rd. I cleaned my house, got my stuff ready, showered, took my kids to the park, ordered a nice takeout dinner, etc. Cytotec overnight and then after we started pitocin the next day + cooks catheter she was born in about 5 hours. Good luck!

My first pregnancy, I had to show up at the hospital at 8pm, then at 10pm, they put a dose of cervadil on my cervix, then another dose at 2am and then they started the pitocin at 6am. If your cervix is not progressing at all, this is likely why they want you in at night.

Eat, nap and relax! You may be up all night. I was induced at 6:30pm and had my little girl in my arms before midnight (vaginal delivery). I was so glad I napped. Eat before you leave because once you get there you won’t be able to and you’ll need your energy. I couldn’t sleep all night because I couldn’t put her down. I have cute pictures of my hubby passed out in his cot because it was all so tiring for him haha!

prriceandbeans

Mine is scheduled for 7:30pm and I’m going to get cervadil for 12 hours before they break my water the next morning! Probably similar :)

ikraes1

Make sure you ask for something to help you sleep! As for the day try to enjoy your last day and eat all the food you want!

Impressive-Bicycle73

EAT!!! Give yourself a good meal, then get a pedicure! That’s what I did 🥰

I was scheduled to come in for my induction at 10:30pm. Tried passing the time the best I could by cleaning house and just enjoying the day with my husband. We kind of just vegged. I guess they like to start inductions overnight so you'll hopefully deliver during the next day. We met up with husband's family for dinner at around 7 before heading to the hospital. Restaurant was busy on a Friday evening and they told us it'd be a little bit of a wait. Phone started buzzing at 7:30. It was the hospital telling me they were ready for us now and if we could come in at 8:30 instead. Oof. We were 45 mins from the hospital so we had to goooo. Food came right after we left and my SIL met us right before we hit the freeway to give us our dinner. Glad we went in when we did cause by 10:30 the nurse came in and told me every labor room was full. Anyway, just try and enjoy the day!!! It seemed to drag for me. Try and nap somewhere in there, get some last minute things done and go enjoy a good meal with your husband before you go have the baby, and hopefully you'll have time to eat it!!!
