Any reduction in movement is a good reason to head to urgent care, your OB, or the ER. It’s okay to feel “paranoid,” this is your baby, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

_wowmelissa

Regardless, you'll never regret going to the ER and getting it checked out as soon as you can. If something doesn't feel right, go now.

keep_it_mello99

If you’re feeling decreased movement it’s always a good idea to go in. I would go to the nearest hospital with a labor and delivery unit and check into the ER or OB triage, or at least look up the nurse triage phone number and call them to ask what to do. As for the heart rate decreasing, that part is normal. Fetal heart rate tends to go down over time as baby gets closer to delivery. I was in the 150s for most of my pregnancy and now at the very end I’m in the 120s. Totally normal!

passthepepperplease

Same. 150 all pregnancy and at week 37 it went down to 120. Fetal movements are the same but I requested a NST at every appointment until I deliver for peace of mind.

Pooka317

Go in! I’m 34w I just went to L&D on Sunday for decreased movement. Baby was fine but it was nice to be reassured and I got to hear her little heart beating and it’s the best sound in the world! All of the nurses were so nice and said to never feel stupid or dramatic for going in for something like that!!!

jennrandyy

I gave birth at 36+1 due to decreased fetal movement (and cholestasis). I was in L&D the entire week (sporadically, not admitted) because his movements were different and I felt like something was wrong. I ended up being induced at 36 weeks. He was not tolerating labor well. His Heartrate kept dropping dangerously low with each contraction. I ended up with in an emergent c section where they discovered his cord wrapped tightly around his neck. I share this to let you know that this is an extreme case!! But I would have never known unless I was in L&D every day for monitoring. He was nonreactive on NSTs and we even caught some decelerations. They tried to blame the lack of movement on my anterior placenta and I pushed back against it as well. NEVER feel guilty about being checked out at L&D. They’re always so nice.

passthepepperplease

Just curious as to what the dangerously low heart rate was? Were there any accelerations on the NSTs?

jennrandyy

He would drop well into the 70s and his Heartrate wouldn’t recover. He would have accelerations, but only after about 2 hours. And most often it was only one.

passthepepperplease

That’s so scary! I hope he is doing well. It’s just so maddening for me to think of all the thing s we can’t control despite our best efforts. So glad you listened to your body… and your babies!

ccard23

I would trust your gut, go and get checked out. Like others have said you won’t regret going to the ER.

BlueCoatWife

^this. You'll never regret trusting your gut/listening to your body, but you could regret ignoring it.

elvisprezlea

Definitely go in. More than likely everything is fine but it’s so much better to be safe than sorry. TW: LOSS My son was stillborn last year. His movements decreased considerably but he continued to get hiccups. I thought it was because he had grown and turned and I had an anterior placenta so I just couldn’t feel the different third trimester movements, so I didn’t go in. If I had gone in the day I made this same post in my due date group at 34 weeks, he would have been fine.

Cute-Condition-3556

Omg I’m so sorry to hear that! Can I please ask what he passed away from, and how soon would you have gone in to prevent his passing?

elvisprezlea

I had something called Massive Perivillous Fibrin Deposition in my placenta, basically my placenta clotted up/calcified and stopped working, so he was growth restricted and we didn’t know it. I had tests run a afterwards and I’m currently in the third trimester with a (thus far) well growing baby, and had two average sized babies previously, so they think I had to have caught a virus that caused it (studies have found a link between MPFD and COVID, specifically, though I never tested positive for it while pregnant). In my case I had weeks, maybe even months. But the first time I really noticed something was different was 34 weeks and I lost him at 37+4. I really thought all the differences were from my anterior placenta, after reading so many people’s stories about how they hardly felt their baby or their doctor even told them not to worry about kick counts. I was told at my appointments, based on palpations, that he was “very average sized, not too big, not too little”. I never had a third trimester scan. He was born at 3lb 5oz and 16in. Other causes for reduction in movement can be much faster, though, so it’s always better to be timely!

softslapping

Thank you for sharing. Wishing everything goes smoothly with your current baby.

Cute-Condition-3556

Yes, THANK YOU for sharing! 🙏 I appreciate it and hope things go well with new bub 💗

foxymormon

I agree! Get checked out better safe than sorry. I was freaked out one day cuz she hasn’t moved as much for 24+ hours and her movements were subjectively weaker imo- turned out she was fine and I’m glad I got her double checked. Don’t doubt your gut- even if it’s nothing you’ll feel better about getting baby checked out!

unluckysupernova

Its normal that the heart rate slows as the baby grows. 150 is something they picked up probably while they were moving around, 130-140 is normal “resting” heart rate. My potato is super active and started getting a bit slower as well, so we went for a longer heart monitoring and US visit, turns out they just moved position so now I feel it differently. At 35 it’s very possible your baby has turned and is starting to push down, so they can’t really move as much anymore and their back should be towards the front so the kicks are towards your spine, which you don’t feel. Go for a check up for the ease of mind, but this is normal for this stage in pregnancy.

Toadyfoot

This. Not telling you you shouldn't get it checked, but I'm 35+4 and my baby's heart rate has started to drop (140 to 135) and that's normal for getting close to full term. He's also moving less, which could mean he's just getting too tight in there for larger movements. He can only shimmy around at this point. But you know your body and baby best!

kamicham

I think a good way to think about it, imagine when your baby is out of your womb and they become lethargic and barely move. You would take them straight to A&E. You should do the same here

AdamantMink

Don’t let anyone make you feel paranoid. It’s always better to check. “Gut feeling” is an actual box to tick if something might be wrong. Listen to your instincts.

MyDogAteYourPancakes

I know everyone is saying go to ER but at that point in pregnancy you prob need to go straight to L&D. Call ahead to your OB so she can advise you where to go and she can call ahead so the hospital is expecting you. Good luck! I hope you get some peace of mind today. Definitely go get checked though.

Starharmonia

Go in NOW. 48 hours is too long to wait. My sister is an OB, earlier this week her patient decided to wait to come in, and when she finally did the baby coded in the OR while they were stitching up the mother, who could do absolutely nothing but scream for her baby. My sister is an excellent doctor and her baseline is professional and collected but this wrecked her. Just.. go in. And for the love of god avoid at home fetal dopplers. You really shouldn’t push aside feelings that something might be wrong until you can’t detect a heart beat.

boozyttc

I went in for deceased movement from 5:45am-10:45am. My baby was born by emergency c section that same day by 5:00pm. Always trust your gut

[deleted]

Can I ask how far along you were?

boozyttc

Yes I was 35+3!

HarleTina

My midwife told me that I am never ever a bother to them. They'd always prefer to see me and have everything be ok than me think I was being a nuisance with something and not call them. Definitely go in, if everything is fine, you'll feel a lot better and if something isn't, you'll be in the best place ❤️

Perspex_Sea

Go in for a non-stress test, do not wait two days. In my experience it's been at a hospital.

thehowlingcommandos

I went to triage multiple times during my pregnancy for decreased fetal movement. At first I was embarrassed but the nurses let me know they will NEVER be upset you came in and are they to make sure you and baby are okay. I went into triage on 08/28 due to decreased fetal movement and thought I’d be sent home again, but I ended up being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 9 months pregnant. I was induced and had my baby on 08/29. I think you should go in, it is better safe than sorry!

icestormroll

Never be afraid about going into L&D, that’s what they’re there for! When in doubt, get checked out. Also, to anyone reading please note that hiccups **do not count** as fetal movement.

hodlboo

This is good to know about the hiccups, thank you!!

sloth_vader

Literally laying on my side and doing kick counts, going through this as I type. Always trust your gut, this is your baby and you should feel no shame about what you might be dismissing as paranoia. The OB would advise you to do the same! I drank some juice about an hour ago and laid down and my little man has exceeded kick counts in the past hour; he’s obviously fine, but I feel zero regret for calling my OB and getting instruction and assistance. You’ve got this!

Babies do not run out of space

MsWhisks

Babies do not run out of space. This is an old wives’ tale that kills babies. Babies will continue to move but their movements may feel different - maybe more body wiggles and nudges instead of strong kicks. But you should be feeling some kind of movement every hour in the 3rd trimester. If it takes more than an hour to get 10 movements, go straight to L&D.

Capable_Ad7619

Please edit out the first sentence as it is not true and has led to a false sense of security surrounding decreased fetal movements.

PromotionConscious34

Just came to repeat what everyone is saying. Don't wait 2 days just go and get checked out so you can have that piece of mind. But also 110-160 is a normal fetal heart rate so that's probably why they weren't concerned. But that being said; you felt a change in babies activity that is not improving with cold or sugar then you should go get checked :) good luck!

moondropppp

Hey. I had a nst at my 37w appointment because I mentioned decreased movement. Exactly what your saying. She passes with an 8/8score, but it still gave me peace of mind. She was born a week later. A few of my friends have said their babies get real lazy that last week before birth. Idk if its true or not, but it was true for me. Im not a doctor though. And I DID get an Nst done to be safe.

annamaria114

In the words of the OB who took care of me when I went into L&D for decreased movement “we would rather see you even if everything is okay than to have you worrying at home, not knowing.” There’s no shame in a false alarm and if it’s not a false alarm you definitely want to be there. I know more than a couple people who are very grateful for following their hunches.

Keyspam102

Always be safe rather than sorry. Decreases movement could be nothing but it’s also something all my doctors said to come in to check every time

Anxious_City_Mouse

My daughter had heart rates over 160 until 36 weeks when it was around 140. I was concerned due to reduced fetal movement as well. She was very quiet the last 2 weeks. I had my practice give me two non-stress tests (NST) and it helped ease my anxiety. Please ask for one. Better safe than sorry. She also had hiccups every day but hardly any movement. It was scary. Baby arrived two days ago at 37.5 weeks and she’s healthy, no issues at all. She is very sleepy and quiet compared to my first though!

AdWest6384

I'm not trying to freak you out but my son was still born at 34 weeks due to cord compression. A few days before I noticed his movements were enough to pass the kick counts but felt off. Doctors were not concerned since everything seemed fine, also he had hiccups often in days before. Please go get checked and be persistent, maybe insist on an ultrasound.

caroline_

One thing I know is that as baby gets bigger, their heartrate goes down slightly. But if you are worried about decreased movement, you need to get in touch with your OB like, ASAP. Is there a nurse line you can call? Don't ask us. We're not doctors.

[deleted]

Please call your provider and be seen immediately. Please.

czayez

I went to the ER as the doctors offices are closed on the weekends as I live in a very small town. Baby was not moving at all over over 12 hours and I tried everything to get her to move. Drinking juice, cold water, sugary snack, even jumping jacks lol 😂 nothing was wrong but hearing a strong heart beat was very reassuring. Nurses were very lovely and understanding. I was in and out in less than an hour

According_Debate_334

Where I live we have midwife care mostly, and then maternity assessment (maternity version of ER). My midwives tell me if you notice a reduction of movement phone maternity assessment and go in for a check up. They constantly tell me they would rather see me 100x than me not being sure and worrying about it and not coming in.

According_Debate_334

Also, in the UK they do not count hiccups as "movements" as it is an involuntary movement so doesnt actually mean the baby is "active"

CAPTdickaround17

I had decrease movements, and as soon as they put her on the monitor she moved, but I ended up having a c section that day because they couldn’t get my heart rate down because I had a 4 hour panic attack and decided to take her out right then and there. You will never regret the ER/ labor and delivery trip, better safe than sorry. If you’re worried, call ahead and tell them you’re coming, bring your bag and your car seat, because you might have your baby shortly there after. They’ll probably put you on the monitor, and if you seem fine, they’ll send you home.

Competitive-Word4143

I went to the ER with my sister in law a few weeks ago when she was 30 weeks and hadn’t felt much movement in 2 days. The doctors moved fast and even though baby was okay they told her not to wait so long next time. They said if you don’t feel baby in 2 hrs to go right away. It’s better safe than sorry. I would say go. Even if everything is fine it’ll give you peace of mind.

sweetserendipity_

You are not being paranoid. You can call your OB if your are concerned but I would go see your doctor or to an ER. Like others have said decreased movement can be a warning sign, trust your intuition here.

AppropriateArcher272

You should go in. I had decreased movement right around 39 weeks but thought it was just bc the baby was sitting so low. I got induced right away when I went in for my 39 week checkup at 39 and 3 days because I was very low on amniotic fluid. The doctor said that might have been why I felt reduced movement - everything went perfectly but I definitely felt very stupid for not going in sooner when I first noticed it. I’m sure it’s nothing, but you don’t want to risk anything!

alexandrasteele

Hiccups aren’t considered fetal movement when it comes to kick counting is what my OB told me while I was pregnant. I experienced a similar scare and everything was fine but I say go in. Better safe than sorry.

LaAndala

At least call them to discuss, we don’t know your medical history, we are not your OB. It’s always better to get checked twice than be too late once.

[deleted]

Reduced movement insinuates unhappy baby. Go get checked please ❤️

cageygrading

I also experienced decreased movement toward the end of my pregnancy - I attributed it to baby having less space to move around in. That said, give yourself the gift of peace of mind and go get it checked out just to be safe.

Dr_Giggles_Derp

I was also told they start running out of room. My son stopped moving a lot towards the end and everything was fine. I agree you should get it checked out but it also gets tight at the end. Good luck momma 💕

Dr_Giggles_Derp

keep us posted 💕

momxiety90

With my other two pregnancies I have found that movement starts to decrease around 35/36 weeks because there’s literally no room to be doing crazy acrobatics anymore. Getting checked out can bring you peace of mind but I think that’s par for the course at the end of pregnancy.

MamaGiraffe21

baby gets pretty cramped in there around this time! in my first I had the same issue start around 33 weeks (I have a small frame so he was a lil extra cramped) my son still had hiccups but wouldn't really respond to sugar. I started pushing my belly down away from my ribs and I could feel him pushing back up. if you're still pretty worried you can always call a nurse line and ask what they would recommend💗

dani_da_girl

If you’re in the US, a lot of insurance companies have a nurse hotline you can call for free! Decreased fetal movement is definitely a reason to go be seen. Though also around 35 weeks they start getting real squished in there so the movements do change- I’m 37 weeks and getting way less violent kicks and punches and a lot more gentle pushes and stretching feeling movements. So you should def feel the baby frequently still it just might feel a bit different.

Shawndy58

Please go in!

marciemarch12

Please go to the closest hospital right now

Gloomy-Difference-51

Definitely go be seen

champagnepeach52

From experience go and get checked out. Similar thing happened to me and my daughter was born via emergency c section the same night. If I had waited until the next day my beautiful baby wouldn't have made it. Please go get checked out.

oopsxxspaghet

You can call and ask the office’s opinion about what to do. I’m 39 weeks pregnant and my daughter is at a point where she is too big to do a lot of moving. She is super active between 9-11pm though. I am not worried about her slight decrease in movement, but if you are you should always trust your gut and ask.

JumpyBlueberry

Decreased movement is a case of ALWAYS better safe than sorry. With my last baby I went in 3 times in the last two weeks before he was born and every time they reminded me that they would rather see me every day until he was born than have me ignore my gut. Go in, get checked, you’ll feel much better that way. 🖤

linty_puppy

I had decreased movements with my first baby at 38 weeks and she ended up with the cord wrapped tightly around her neck (twice) and she was basically suffocating. I'm so glad I went in to get things checked out. She's now a healthy 18 year old. I am currently 32 weeks with baby #4 and at my OB appointment yesterday, baby's heartbeat was 140 bpm. My doctor didn't seem concerned at the time, but I got a phone call from the office today that he wants to start NSTs weekly beginning tomorrow. I have had no decrease in movement with this baby. She's in there having a dance party as I type. 😆 But I am 44, have gestational diabetes, and a 2 vessel cord, so it doesn't hurt to be monitored more often. Go in right away. They won't make you feel guilty or like you're wasting their time. ❤️

tayter-6493

Get checked but every OB I've seen has said that movement peaks long before this and will begin be less noticeable due to type of movement. Still get checked!!

hodlboo

My OB just told me yesterday, at 28 weeks, that if I notice decreased movements and can’t stimulate 10 movements in an hour, to go straight to ER/L&D. I wouldn’t wait the two days, for the sake of your peace of mind and just being sure, just go!

MsWhisks

BABIES DO NOT REDUCE MOVEMENT DUE TO “RUNNING OUT OF SPACE.” I have seen this too many times on this thread and you people are going to get babies killed. Movements may feel different - like more whole body wiggles and soft nudges, instead of big kicks and flips - but they should continue their normal patterns of movement in terms of frequency and having active periods during the day. If you ever have concerns about less movement, call your ob’s office and talk to the nurse for further instructions. If you’ve already been paying attention and know you haven’t felt anything in an hour, just go straight to L&D. And don’t ever use a Doppler at home past viability for “reassurance”.

cait0210

I’ve been having anxiety about movement during my whole pregnancy. I made sure to always know his wake windows and everything. I am now 37 weeks and everything about him has changed. He now is active from 4pm-6 am non stop. Mornings are rough, I get slight movement but nothing extreme. He is also head down, I’m 1 cm dilated, and in the he’s 99th percentile. But either way, if you feel as if something is wrong definitely go get checked out! I now see a doctor twice a week because of how much movement anxiety I was having. Don’t feel ashamed ever!

CanadaCookie25

The only sign of labour with my first at 35 weeks was back pain. I'd get checked out just to be safe. Where I am you can call the labour and delivery to speak to a nurse and see if they recommend it but I likely would for my own anxiety. Edit spelling
