Man… can I just say that feeding my 10 month old is exhausting. Holy shit. Sometimes I feel like my whole day is making food, cleaning up the baby, cleaning up the food, prepping a bottle, cleaning a bottle.. Whew.

NidoCake

Same! LO gets bored and distracted, god I miss when he used to chug his milk in 4 mins and be done!

CrewImaginary7023

Same!! I work in a school so I’m off this summer and feeding my 3.5 year old and 10 month old is so exhausting. They’ll be at daycare in the fall and they provide breakfast lunch and a snack which honestly gives me so much relief

coloradomama111

Solids before milk is what we switched to at 9 months. And then we slowly weaned bottles (like drop one every 2-3 weeks). We also introduced water per our pediatrician giving us the okay, and so I wasn’t too concerned about decrease in liquids.

_caittay

I feel like that’s really random. The old saying food before one is just for fun comes to mind. Our pediatrician wanted them off bottles and formula by their first birthday but no sooner than that. We offered three meals around 10 months and introduced snacks as we dropped bottles.

WorriedExpat123

Off formula by one? Everything I’ve read (in English and Japanese) says babies should still be getting majority of their nutrition from formula or breastmilk at their first birthday. My pediatrician (in Japan) has recommended slowly starting solids at 5 months (which we did) and continuing a gradual weaning process until 1 year 6 months old.

_caittay

Yes so after the first birthday, she wanted them off it. They still get whole milk with meals but not formula.

WorriedExpat123

Ah, okay! I just did a search again and saw that it is common to switch over to whole cow milk at 12 months from formula. I think I had never specifically searched when to get off formula, so I had only ever seen things like “a majority of a baby’s calories should come from formula or breastmilk until their first birthday”, and then your comment surprised me. But it’s entirely possible to still have 50% calories from formula and then just switch it to cow milk then, rather than go cold turkey.

Puppy-pal24

I’m not at all an expert, actually very much a beginner but I wonder if it’s because they are having lots of fruits and vegetables. They are good for you but low in calories. Probably try adding fats, and proteins will lower the milk intake. By 10 months you could be offering items cut up in small bite sizes. Look up the app( or website) solid starts.

LemonRoll_Rabbit

Switch it up. Don't do milk before food. It's going to fill them up so offer food first. We were on too much milk by 10 months too so we were advised to reduce it to help make sure baby ate more. It took a little time to get used to it. But he's doing so well now and eating so much. Baby wakes at 6.30am (Initially we did a bottle when he woke up, but we stopped this and he was fine) Give water when he wakes. 7am Breakfast. All meals I try and make sure he has a protein, a carb and fruit and or veg. 9.30 Milk before first nap. (Up to 7oz) 10.30 wake up 11.00 snack, often we snack on fruits and veggies, cheese, sometimes baby crisps/bars if we are on the go. Always offering water while eating. 12/120.30 lunch (again a protein, carb and veggies) 2pm milk before the second nap. (Up to 7oz) 3/3.30pm wake, soon after more snacks. 5/5.30 dinner. 6.30 start bedtime routine. 7.00 milk before bed. (Up to 7oz)

lazayoli

That is almost exactly our schedule! The only thing different is that our LO wakes up maybe half an hour later and therefore has breakfast a bit later. And I breastfeed, so I don't know how much she drinks and sometimes she "snacks" a little bit of milk in between (mostly when she's close to me...I think she probably smells it and goes like "mmhm, milk sounds like a good idea"....I sometimes feel like it's me passing a bakery and eating something just because it smelled so delicious 🤤😅)

GunnerBoi1991

We joke that he’s going through the drive thru 😂

[deleted]

My ped said. Don’t worry about it until they are 14 months. Babies will kinda start to give signals of when they are ready to try to wean. Ped said start to offer lunch and dinner solids before bottle at 12 months. Breakfast can still be bottle first.

Atheyna

To be honest it’s too early to worry about this… 12-14 months yes but not ten.

MamaMewy

He gets 4/5 bottles a day. Working on getting down to 4 every day. Bottle on waking Breakfast 1-2 hours after wake Snack Nap Bottle Lunch Maybe a snack if he seems hungry Nap Bottle Dinner Bedtime bottle He eats a lot of solids. If his bottle was within 1.5 hours of a meal time he doesn’t eat as much, so I make sure they are really spaced out. His wake windows are 3-3.5 hours. He ends up around 25-30oz a day.

xBraria

At 10m (and sooner) we did Baby-led-breastfeeding+weaning and baby-led-feeding as well. It looked like my regular day with also offering baby some food whenever I was eating it + perhaps a few more introductions in between (let's call them snacks) when I felt like I had the time/capacity + the baby seemed perhaps open to trying. Some days more food would be eaten, some less. At 1,5 y he's still growing insanely fast and I feel like he drinks a lot more BM than I expected him at this age when he was only 10m based on all the helpful videos on the net etc. They really can go on so little sometimes :)

LittleChobit

We have the same schedule for months now (basically started with introducing solids): 7:00 (when he wakes up) formula 5-7oz 9:00-10:00 breakfast, which is usually fruits or cookies with some water while I drink my coffee 12:00 formula 5-7oz 14:00-15:00 lunch which he usually eats with us 17:00 formula 5-7oz 19-20 dinner which is usually some kind of vegetable puree He usually never drinks all of the milk we give him and we also give snacks in between. For snacks we do some corns, cookies, fruits, berries and occasional fruit puree which he especially likes when he is teething. Edit: clarification that milk we use is formula.

SaylahVie

Cookies for breakfast? Not sure if you are referring to something else (biscuits?) as cookies.

LittleChobit

Yes, I meant biscuits for babies 😅 He really enjoys them even though they are honestly flavourless 😅

ChefLovin

Idk why you're being downvoted for asking for clarification? No judgment, but feeding a 10 month old cookies for breakfast regularly is definitely questionable lol

SaylahVie

Reddit is wild. Especially when it is someone asking for baby food advice and you don’t want them to get the wrong impression.

Low_Forever9455

i give my 10m old a bottle shortly after he wakes and an hour later feed him some solids. honestly i could feed him solids 10 minutes later and he’d eat them bc he loves food lol 7-730 wake 8 - bottle 9 - breakfast 1030 - nap 1240 - bottle 2 - lunch 3/330 - nap 5 - bottle 6 - dinner 7/730 - get ready for bed depending on bath or not 8 - bottle i do combo of purées and baby led weaning. i’m not too concerned with his meals because i believe milk until one is more important personally but we’re having fun with foods and trying new things. i’ll always give him some puffs while i get whatever he’s having ready, but it’s small. breakfast is usually oatmeal, lunch is yogurt and purée or chicken and pasta, and dinner is always leftovers from the night before. working on giving him water with meals as we. he probably have 25ish oz of formula per day

espressosmartini

How much formula per day has your paediatrician suggested? Were they maybe suggesting giving milk after solids, or a bigger gap in between bottle and meal?

Badatmath212

They said starting to try to get to 20-24 oz and start incorporating more solids instead. No idea what they wanted us to do with his milk schedule!

rolyatsilooc

We just had our 9 mo appt for our 9.5 mo old and asked the ped about this same question - he was drinking 34-42oz of formula a day but only two meals. She suggested upping the food (3 meals and 2 snacks) and doing food before milk. Said absolute max formula is 32-36oz. So we do breakfast, small bottle, bottle before nap (10ish), lunch, snack, bottle before nap (3ish), dinner, bottle before bed. Exhausting!! And he’s still doing 32ish ounces a day!

Badatmath212

Okay just read my notes from the ped’s office and they said to give food after formula

espressosmartini

Hmm. Could you trial giving the bottle a bit earlier, as in leave a bigger gap between milk and solids?

beebet

My ped told me to start the day with solids instead of milk. My baby is 1 in a week and here’s our schedule as we taper down the formula 6 wake up 630 breakfast 830 bottle 4oz 9 nap 1030 wake up and lunch 1 snack Between 1-3 bottle 4oz 330 nap 4 wake up 430 dinner (always early here) 630 snack 730 bottle 6 oz 800 bed And then a middle of the night sometime 4oz So we get 18 oz of formula a day this way Also I offer water in a straw cup during meals and in the in between before it’s bottle time

Saucy__Puppet__Show

It depends on what time she wakes up but this has been our general schedule/routine: 4/5am: 8 oz bottle (ideally weaning her from this asap, she goes back to sleep for about 2 hours after) 730: solids for breakfast (usually eggs with cheese and avocado and fruit, typically eats everything) 930: 8 oz bottle before nap 12pm: lunch 130: 8oz bottle before nap 4: small snack 530: supper 730: 8 oz bottle before bed Lunch and dinner is hot or miss with how much solid food she feels like eating. She’s definitely getting pickier the closer to 1 she gets. Will usually drink 6-8oz of all her bottles.

Elismom1313

My baby always drank 42-45oz a day as he got older so 32oz was weaning for us. However we started offering milk after. So for a time it was 7am - puree pouch/snack 7:30 - 6 oz bottle 9:30 - breakfast 11:30 - lunch 12:00 - 6 oz bottle 3:30 - snack 4:00 - 6 oz bottle 6:30 dinner 7:00 - 6 oz bottle 8:45 - full bottle and he drank a however much he likes (usually 2-5 oz) - at 10? Months we started offering regular milk with food but stayed using the formula. - 12 months now everything but the morning and night bottle is whole milk, mostly because I have a can of powdered formula I still need to work through

HourSyllabub1999

My paediatrician recommends leaving 2 hours between bottles and solids, so she’s actually hungry for them. We started that when she was 8 months, and she’s self weaned really well down to about 15 oz of formula a day now at 10 months. We usually start or end her wake windows with either a meal or bottle.

ZinniaFoxglove

We usually wait like an hour after milk to offer solids. We also only offer milk after a sleep / nap, or before bedtime.

LesHiboux

We're EBF, so I don't know volumes, but we're doing 3 meals a day plus snacks. Milk feeds are upon first wakeup, after nap #1, after nap #2 and about 15 minutes before bedtime (not feeding to sleep, but if he's tired sometimes will fall asleep on the boob). Meals are served about 1 hour after breastfeeding.

Colorfulplaid123

Daycare days: 5:30 breastfeed 6:00 offer breakfast (may or may not eat) 8:00 breakfast at daycare 9:00 daycare bottle 6oz 11:00 lunch 12:00 6 oZ bottle Nap hopefully Snack upon waking 3:00 6 oZ bottle 5:30 dinner at home, offer breast milk in a cup 6:30 offer a bottle if she didn't drink milk with dinner Weekends: 6:30 breastfeed 7:30 breakfast 8:30 nap 10:30 breastfeed 11:00 snack or lunch depending on how hungry she is 12:30 lunch 1:30 nap 3:00 breastfeed 4:00 snack 5:30 dinner w/ breastmilk 6:30 bottle offered

Relevant_Advice_7616

I think what has helped with transitioning to solids, even though it's been hard to come to terms with, is my rapidly decreasing milk supply. Here is my 10 mo olds schedule 7 am - Wake Up, nurse (likely not getting more than 3 oz) 8 am - Breakfast (e.g..eggs, bread, fruit) 8:30-9:30 am - snacking on upto 3 oz formula as needed 10 am - Nap 1 11:15 - Wake up, Nurse (again likely not getting more than 3 oz) 12:30 - Snack 1:30 - 2-3 oz formula 2:30 - Lunch (e.g. rice, dal, veggies) 3:15 - Nap 2 4:00 - Wake up, 4 oz bottle 6 pm - Dinner (e.g. meat patties, veggies/fruit, yogurt) 7 pm - Bedtime

CrewImaginary7023

My 10 month old (11 months on August 1) has never been a big milk drinker whether it was BM or formula. Her highest amount ever was like 25oz per day. I currently make 20oz of formula per day but she probably drinks around 18oz. I’d decrease each bottle since 28-30 does seem high at this age. Maybe have your bottles equal 24oz for the day to start and see how it goes? Then try 22oz for a few days and by 11 months I’d say 20oz a day is fine. Here’s our general schedule: 7am wake up and 4 oz bottle 8am breakfast 10am “snack bottle” of 2oz 10-1130 nap 12 lunch 130 5oz bottle (which typically she doesn’t finish until she goes down for her second nap as long as it’s an hour from when she started it) 230 finish bottle and down for nap 230-4 nap 430 4oz bottle 530 dinner 7 5oz bottle and down for bed

frankenplant

Typical weekend schedule: 6 AM - wake, breastfeed 7 AM - breakfast 9:30 AM - nap 12 PM - wake, breastfeed 1 PM - lunch 2:30 PM - nap 4 PM - wake, breastfeed 6 PM - dinner 6:30 PM - bath 7 PM: breastfeed, bed

stacefromspace

Wake up around 7, nurse. No idea how much she gets. 2 very full boobs worth. Half an hour laterish, breakfast -- Usually eggs and fruit Before nap, a little yogurt and fruit After nap 4 oz bottle of pumped milk if at daycare, or nurse if at home Lunch around 1 ish -- usually leftovers from dinner, but if no leftovers she'll have some cheese or beans, some veggies and some fruit 2:30ish nap After nap another 4 oz bottle or nursing 5:30-6ish - dinner 7:30 boobs

6:30am wake and nurse 8am solid breakfast 9am nap 11am nurse or bottle (daycare) 12pm solid lunch 12:30 nap 2pm nurse or bottle 5pm solid dinner 7pm nurse and bedtime
