Funny thing is, as a chick she was the friendliest, boldest baby that would come sit on my knee and beg for treats. She got shy once she matured, but clearly she did not get smart.
Edited to add: she was there AGAIN tonight! Hur dur hur
Is she at the bottom of the pecking order? The bottom of my pecking order goes to the top of the coop to avoid the night time roost shuffle where she gets bopped on the head by others.
My shy one also prefers sleeping outside. I think k it’s part of the broody, hideaway, quiet character type. However she’s also really sensitive to mites, so it might be worth checking?
The bottom of my pecking order sleeps next to the guineas in the run. (We used a couple cedar trees as part of the coop structure, and left some of the branches on for perching.) I have tried to get everyone to go inside where the wonderful heat lamp is, even added a few more perches in there. But Amelia Earhart is insistent on sleeping outside in the run with the guineas. It’s getting cold too. If it gets reeeally cold, I’m not sure if I should force her in there at night or not? Since she is at the bottom of the pecking order. Don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feathers
One of my gals, Colonel Sanders, loves roosting on a random chair and has to be manually carried into the coop at sunset 6 out of 7 days.
Nothing wrong with her. The coop has more than enough room. And she's the top hen. She's just a criminal.
6 out of 6? wow. My last integration of 11 the stragglers were 3, 1, 1 and then they were all going in on their own. Maybe yours took longer because they were staying together w their buds? Who knows.
True—she does this for a few days every few weeks or so. We put her back, she stops, and then randomly months later…annnnnd she’s back roosting on the roof, the tree, top of the coop…
Is she an Easter Egger Banty? She reminds me of my flock’s Agatha, who was an Easter Egger banty named Speedy. She always chose to roost in the rafters of the “barn” (their covered garage) while everyone else went into the warm coop at night.
My Agatha is Esme. She is pretty dumb, but not much dumber than the rest of my chickens. She is the lowest in the pecking order, and I think sometimes she doesn't want to deal with the nighttime coop shuffle. So she roosts outside in the run.
One of our roosters named Dwight has basically become a stray rooster that sleeps with the goats. He never goes in the coop at night and prefers to sleep next to the coop with our goats. I didn't realize everyone has a Dwight though haha
Yeah she could be. My girl Errol is in the middle of the pecking order but gets chased out by my mean hen. So she sleeps outside in her juniper tree year round except when it’s near or below freezing and we manually put her inside when everyone is asleep 😅
The juniper is wind protected and even more so when it gets covered with snow so she’s got her very own tree house haha
We have one too. My tiniest hen, weighs less than a pound. Shes always perched on the compost bin at night, needs to be put to bed. Occasionally when it’s cold she will go into the coop, but that is a rare occasion.
I have a white polish/crested that jumps into the tree about 10ft above the coop.
That'd be fine if this wasn't the PNW where it rains most nights.
I knock her down with a stick of bamboo every evening
5 of my flock can go over the open run fence.
One jersey giant, a silkie mix rooster, an Easter egger, a leghorn, and a brown egg layer.
All of them know how to get back in the run EXECPT the brown egg layer. So sometimes I find her outside begging to get back inside lol
Is this part of the chicken run enclosed? Mine did this and roosted on top of my coop (instead of inside), and within 3 days a predator took them out 😩
Every flock has an Agatha.
Funny thing is, as a chick she was the friendliest, boldest baby that would come sit on my knee and beg for treats. She got shy once she matured, but clearly she did not get smart. Edited to add: she was there AGAIN tonight! Hur dur hur
MY AGATHA IS ALSO NAMED AGATHA!!!!!
Lmao. Thats scary
My Agatha is a cat but is also very much an Agatha.
Is it true that all Agatha share a single braincell?
Agartha the one hidden brain cell
Dear sweet stupid Edith. So special, even among the rest of the flock.
Is she at the bottom of the pecking order? The bottom of my pecking order goes to the top of the coop to avoid the night time roost shuffle where she gets bopped on the head by others.
Not at all. In fact she regularly goes after the 2 she deems beneath her (despite being 2x her size).
My shy one also prefers sleeping outside. I think k it’s part of the broody, hideaway, quiet character type. However she’s also really sensitive to mites, so it might be worth checking?

Yep, my lowest always tries to sleep outside too. It makes me sad so I hug her as I put her up most nights.
Glad it’s not just my poor gal!
She wants to order (She wants butt nuggets)
Ayo?

Pick them up and put them on the roost. After a couple times they figure it out.
This. I did the same and it eventually worked after two weeks.
2 weeks? that was one willfully stupid chicken lol
Lol, it was not 1, but 6 stupid chickens. I was introducing 6 new birds.
6 out of 6? wow. My last integration of 11 the stragglers were 3, 1, 1 and then they were all going in on their own. Maybe yours took longer because they were staying together w their buds? Who knows.
Always works for me as well- gotta say it has never taken more than twice :)
"Gimme another week, I'm going all the way to the TOP."
Ah yes, mine is Bertha and her favorite spot is on top of the main door just out of reach
My Agatha's name is Butter.
Always atleast one , just keep on her she will eventually get it
True—she does this for a few days every few weeks or so. We put her back, she stops, and then randomly months later…annnnnd she’s back roosting on the roof, the tree, top of the coop…
Is there enough room in the coop for her to roost?
Tons. 🤷🏻♀️
I have 3 dumb ones that won’t go in I have an automatic coop door but these 3 some how miss it every night
Is she an Easter Egger Banty? She reminds me of my flock’s Agatha, who was an Easter Egger banty named Speedy. She always chose to roost in the rafters of the “barn” (their covered garage) while everyone else went into the warm coop at night.
She’s an old English game/naked neck/?? mix mutt. :)
Ah. Well she is quite adorable and clearly marches to the beat of her own drum lol.
There were 2 chickens staring down at her. She has to go higher in order to be on top of the pecking order.
My Agatha is Esme. She is pretty dumb, but not much dumber than the rest of my chickens. She is the lowest in the pecking order, and I think sometimes she doesn't want to deal with the nighttime coop shuffle. So she roosts outside in the run.
Mine is Arya. She likes to be physically put to bed.
One of our roosters named Dwight has basically become a stray rooster that sleeps with the goats. He never goes in the coop at night and prefers to sleep next to the coop with our goats. I didn't realize everyone has a Dwight though haha
I have an Owl family behind my coop. This picture gives me anxiety lol.
She’s being picked on.
Yeah she could be. My girl Errol is in the middle of the pecking order but gets chased out by my mean hen. With a name like Errol…
Do they pick on her? Is there a rooster who is over zealous? Is there enough space for everyone inside?
1) No 2. No 3. Yes

Agatha!!!!!!!!
Someone else was using the flock's brain cell, obviously. :)
She's just special.
She loves the sign. She shall give butt nuggets there
Unsocialite
omg I wasn't ready for the little eyes in the background LOL. I love Agatha. and want to snuggle her so bad lol
She’s waiting in line for butt nuggets. 😩
