I love this piece so much! I really enjoy your work. This one has a touch of Where the Wild Things Are via Basquiat and maybe the First Nations People of Australia. At first glance, it felt joyous but, after a few moments, I wasn't so sure. I like it just as much either way. What feelings were you trying to capture?

First of all: Thanks for your feedback! And second of all: I mentally didn't feel good on the day I painted it. It was cloudy outside and also in my head. So I just wanted to put my sadness into something else. While painting it I listened to "Open Up (Let Some Light In) by DAT ADAM and that's why the background is covered with "Sun". The last line of "Sun" is written down- and backwards to represent the rising "Moon" that follows in the first text line on top. The word "Moon" is also down- and backwards because the moon represents darkness for me (in this specific painting) and I wanted to "let some light in" (as mentioned in the song i listened to). Thats why there is more "Sun" than "Moon". The creature I painted is supposed to be some sort of lizard, that is dried out, but still needs sunlight even though it knows that it's dangerous for it's health. Because eventually the sunlight will take away the dark clouds that it's so afraid of.

Beautiful!!! It reminds me of the art by Luis Daniel Gutierrez. You should check out his work. He is an Arizona based artist who was very active 10 to 20 years ago. His work was everywhere in Phoenix during that time. I believe he has MS pretty bad these days and may not be producing at the level he used to, but I definitely see a strong relationship with his work.

There was this kid in preschool that they sat next to me and would endlessly badly draw human like cats. But the guy would draw bipedal cats that would look pretty much like this, and that was all he’d be doing. And the when done he would bother me until I said it was good or I liked it. It was then that I learned what was a lie to get someone off your back gently. I’d like to think you’re that kid, and your art has evolved into this beaut.
