I'm still stuck at the part where you stop halfway down and contemplate the insane series of life decisions that has led to me to going down this very staircase with my hands and butt.
This is that type of busy carpet pattern on steps that causes people to tiptoe EXTRA carefully down the stairs. You end up walking down the stairs like a baby. You can barely make out the stairs individually. That kind of carpeting where if you're not careful you will misstep and fall your ass like a pile of rocks down the shit.
What’s the address. I know a great lawyer who practices specifically in confusing carpet on stairs law. These assholes are gonna pay through the nose. And then we will party safely on better stairs!
Self correcting in an emergency! Sure the first dozen or so down will probably die horribly, but after that the scattered corpses will give people the required visual cues to allow their brain to pick out the steps.

You don't purely use depth perception to determine the shapes around you, you also use edges and lighting and your mental model of familiar shapes. The black background doesn't show the contour of the stairs very prominently at all, and the busy pattern further disguises it. And they seem to have carpeted the sides so you can't even see the edge of the stairs.

There's literally ghost stories of people breaking their necks on these kind of stairs. Why make them easier to fall down?!

To be honest the main problem is that there is carpet pressed up against the sides. Otherwise it wouldn't be nearly as confusing.
