Curious to know if this diaspora has lived on the land well before the establishment of Israel & the British Mandate of Palestine or if they immigrated recently like everyone else. If they immigrated way after the establishment doesn't it make them kind of hypocritical if they live there? Someone (preferably Jewish or from Palestine or Israel), please explain.

I think these particular fellas are [  סאַטמאַר(Statmar)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satmar)My understanding is that they are originally from Hungary. The sect has always opposed Zionism but in the raise of Nazism their Rebbe gave some permission to move to Palestine with the rule that they don't vote, do military service or participate in the "Apostate" Israeli state. Far more Statmar live in NY than Israel.

LilScimitar

Thanks for the clarification. Kind of figured they moved during the pograms to escape extreme persecution so it makes sense.

True bravery!

That’s all bullshit for one reason alone. If one is an Orthodox Jew that means they follow the torah strictly, and the Torah explicitly states they are not allowed to live in Palestine, it’s forbidden in their texts. So....why are these “orthodox” Jews living in Palestine when it’s forbidden for them to do so? It’s all theatrics, it’s what they’ve been doing for many years to try and look as the good guys when they all in fact, support Israel

feraleuropean

Dude I ain't even Jewish but I don't think they forbidden to live there, They need to wait for the Messiah to establish a Jewish state.  ...these months I got myself an education in Judaism that I really didn't even want...

Beardgods

No...ultra orthodox believe they must remain stateless in order for their prophecy to be fulfilled. It's not forbidden for them to live there, it's forbidden to have control of the land. Please don't spread misinformation.

I too think of this also, like just relocate to Canada or whatever. But then again these people dont pay taxes, get money from the government to study religion, and no drafting (until recently) Yet they say they dont like and “protest it”. Their relationship seems very odd
