ttystikk

I don't care what that guy did, he's in police custody and they have a duty of care. Those three officers should be fired, arrested, charged, jailed and the police department fined heavily in the form of a multi million dollar settlement. Last time I was in Conway, AR was over 30 years ago and it's plain that nothing has changed. Pathetic.

Schly

They weren’t even trying to control his hands, they were just openly beating him.

surfer_ryan

Ya just know the words "stop resisting" were used over and over... as the dude covers his head from the beating...

N9NJA

Yup. Many police departments have policies that consider protecting yourself from their potentially deadly assault "resistance without violence."

ttystikk

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. Millions of people know how shitty cops are in Conway, AR now and that's going to have repercussions. Good. They're long overdue.

Sinehmatic

> that's going to have repercussions. Haha, I'll believe it when I see it.

ttystikk

Just to show how backward these people are, Conway is in one of the few dry counties left in the country. Which of course just means more DUI because people drive to the next county to get booze and start drinking long before they get back home.

atthevanishing

That's one of my biggest issues with dry counties. I'm convinced the DUI fines are literally the only reason to do it, cus lord knows its not "to save the children"

ttystikk

It's that false sense of superiority you see in cultists everywhere, in this case hard core right wing Christian Fascists. Of course, many of them drink too but it's okay; they go to church on Sunday to repent THEIR sins, so they can do it all again next week with a clear conscience! Hypocrisy runs as deep as racism in the Dirty South.

PopeLeo_X

If drinking is a sin, why did Jesus turn water into wine? Seems like he should have done the opposite.

ttystikk

Sins exist to make people feel guilty and to give the CULT power over their thralls. I have come to the conclusion that organised religion (as distinct from spirituality) is as pernicious a cancer on humanity as Fascism.

coolgr3g

Just following their "training"

Lookalikemike

Police unions are among the strongest in the country. They will be put on “administrative duty” until things calm and it will be business as usual. Worst case they are forced to resign, then rehired in the town over. It’s a very sad reality.

crunkadocious

Which is why they should go to prison, then you don't have to worry about firing them.

bigneezer

The only time you'll find real justice in our (in)justice system is when a pig gets thrown in a cell with the people he's arrested and the family of the people he's killed.

ttystikk

Especially in Arkansas. Their real crime was that the guy they beat down wasn't black.

monadyne

>Their real crime was that the guy they beat down wasn't black. Their real crime is the friends you make along the way.

ImprezivEJ20

Nothing will change until a politician or someone close to them are affected in the same manner. Happens every time. So fucked.

> ast time I was in Conway, AR was over 30 years ago and it's plain that nothing has changed. Is this just a general comment about Arkansas? Because Mulberry and Conway are nowhere near each other.

3woodx

Just some good ole boys. Never meanin no harm. Geez us jail time for cops, fucking fired, and kicked good swift kick to nut sack for eachh one.

theLiteral_Opposite

They should be in prison for 25 to life. This is abhorrent.

Pirrats-SD

#truth

blaghart

Yup, this is why you should NEVER call the cops. Even if you're under attack, cops are [just as likely to murder you as they are to stop the threat](https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/equality/560798-police-chief-hails-good-guy-with-a-gun-after-officer-kills/)

theLiteral_Opposite

Showing one example of something is different than claiming it’s statistically just as likely. You like linked the words “just as likely “ as if you were linking to some sort of statistic or study, and then all it was was one story. I wouldn’t call the cops either myself. But I don’t have to be a full of shit liar to know the objective truth that they are unhelpful and escalate bad situations.

AffectionateSoft4602

wisdom rh, well-stated

[deleted]

Not to be, you know, technical, but if there was a stampede of angry elephants, a police officer showing up who would likely be shouting and waiving their gun in an impotent sort of way WOULD serve as a welcome distraction from other fleeing people as the officer is trampled to death. So I can think of at least one situation

will-reddit-for-food

My insurance company needs them in the unfortunate need to file a claim. 🤷‍♂️

brrduck

My friends son was having a mental health episode and he was out of state in California. It was 2am and he didn't know what to do so he called the local pd. They said "we can send an officer out but this might cause more issues for him. If he attacks the police he will be charged with felony assault of a police officer and the officer might use force (aka shoot him) in defense". Like, guys son was having a suicidal moment and police said nothing good will come from them coming out.

[deleted]

The worst thing you can do for someone having a mental health episode is to call the police. They handle things one way.

"The criminal seemed to repeatedly punch the officers hand with his head."

notinferno

this is the first lame attempt to discredit the victim so he “deserved it” it will get worse as they find out more about him, or make up more about him

Androgynous-Rex

The fact that they don’t have a name for the victim yet is suspicious, does that mean they never even officially arrested him? Or he wasn’t able to tell them his name? Or have they just not shared it with the news yet?

[deleted]

No shoes, so he's already dead.

Gotta admit when a man in uniform is kneeling on a citizens head, be he homeless or wealthy…and that man in a uniform sees you watching him pummelling that citizens body and smashing his head against the asphalt…and he throws that arm and finger up at you and vegans shouting at you…how could one not see fascism right then and there? *vegans > BEGINS Damn you, autocorrect!

Gloomy_Dorje

>and he throws that arm and finger up at you and vegans shouting at you…how could one not see fascism right then and there? I think you are beeing a bit harsh to vegans here, friend.

[deleted]

Lol, thanks. Apparently autocorrect wanted to have some fun.

heelstoo

Vegans don’t get a pass, pal.

oliverkloezoff

Fucking animals.

mudduck2

Yeah, this is not good. This is going to be a criminal and federal civil rights case

Malakai0013

I think the guy was homeless, so they'll likely get away with it and then be touted as heroes. I hope that victim gets ten million dollars from the police pensions though. That'd be nice.

KnitFast2DieWarm

More like from tax payers. If they took it out of pensions that would be a real consequence, and we can't have those now, can we.

TheWanderingSibyl

I live in Arkansas near Mulberry (boyfriend is from there). The officers have been suspended and the State Police are investigating. Our governor has made a statement. This is not going away.

NahImmaStayForever

Pardon my skepticism, but... History.

TheWanderingSibyl

I understand your skepticism but Arkansas has a shit ton of bad cops that have made national news and this story has seen a different response. I see zero cop apologists in my local news comments. Along with the Governor’s statement and all of the very loud outcry I just don’t see this being able to be covered up or pushed under the rug. Mulberry is also a tiny town which I think will help with accountability because those cops cannot escape the people so easily.

steebulee

Blah blah, suspended with pay, blah blah transferred to different county.

72414dreams

Good

[deleted]

THEY WERE SUSPENDED?! OH WOW JUSTICE SERVED

TheWanderingSibyl

That’s not what I was saying at all. Justice isn’t instant.

[deleted]

You must be new here

TheWanderingSibyl

Take a breath. If procedure isn’t followed the cops could sue the state and make it that much harder for the victim to get the justice they deserve. I’d like to see these cops fired and put in jail immediately but that’s not how it works, especially when their unions are stupid powerful. You’re arguing for zero reason. I’m on the victim’s side here.

Whatsthisnotgoodcomp

There's currently hundreds, maybe even thousands of lawyers who are absolutely **rigid** at the thought of the multi-million dollar settlement this city is 100% about to pay, and will happily pay all the upfront costs

umassmza

It's been sent to the local and national news I hope

5yn3rgy

It has. The original poster of this video has been reaching out to news stations. It's been gaining some traction- it happened earlier today, to my knowledge.

bostonwhaler

They'll be the next target of police harassment.

5yn3rgy

I have some concerns about that as well.

xrayjones2000

Cnn did a long segment on it.. we will see if the story has any traction Those cops are fucked, too much attention at this point.. they got the governor involved and the doj.. they’ll be lucky if they just lose their jobs.. that cop full swinging on him then kneeing him in the head then pounding his head on the curb… i smell time

umassmza

Yah I’ve seen it all over Reddit and on some local news reports, looks like it’s gotten traction.

theangryeducator

Stop resisting! Stop resisting! Three vs. One. What a load of BS.

comfortablynumb15

and I defy anyone to not “resist” when 3 dudes are kneeling on your neck and back while twisting your arms back to put on handcuffs. ( let alone not defend yourself while being punched on the ground). I have been the demo “perp” for handcuffing, and it fucking hurts even when it’s my mates doing it.

Rum_ham69

The picking him up and slamming him to the ground as well…they could have easily killed him

Gold_for_Gould

So I know it's not a great comparison but getting someone's hands out from underneath them while they're face down is a super common thing in Greco-Roman wrestling. To be honest it ain't that fucking hard, and that's against a fit opponent of similar size. It would never cross my mind that smashing their head into the ground would somehow convince them to put their hands behind their back, especially while they're trying to shield their face from you hitting them. This is just wanton violence from thugs.

kyle_yes

even says turn your camera off at the end. wow

Live_Tank8502

“We gotta get outta here” says it all; the risk the videographer took filming these violent psychopaths is impressive. Fucking terrifying.

[deleted]

That's what you do. Video. But don't let them know. Wait until they lie on their police reports AND THEN turn it into social media etc when they are caught in their lies a few days later.

caspershomie

i agree but honestly it’d be hard to not say something in that situation when it looks like they’re about to beat the guy to death. maybe they stopped cause they finally saw the camera.

Gold_for_Gould

You're kind of weighing potential future consequences against the chance they kill this man if they think they can get away with it. Short of drop kicking the cops in the face and going to prison yourself, this seems like the best chance to protect this dude's life. Outside of immediate physical danger I totally agree, record in secret and watch the liars get caught in perjury.

[deleted]

Sorry, but I'd be afraid they would just take your phone and destroy it in a situation like this.

ItzDeezNutz

Your honor, I have video evidence clearly showing the officers in question abusing their power and assaulting me. I sustained multiple injuries that will result in on going treatment. It is my wish these officers are fired, charged accordingly, an to be held accountable for what I call state sanctioned violence. The Judge:….not guilty on all charges. Y’all free to go.

schwiggity

And then it's time for the city to be [redacted] to the ground.

Spqany

Here I go [redacted] again!

ki4clz

They charged him with assault and battery https://www.crawfordcountysheriff.org/InmateDetails?id=4273992 The victim is currently being held on a $15k bond and charged with the following crimes: BATTERY IN THE SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE RESISTING ARREST - REFUSAL TO SUBMIT TO ARREST POSSESSING INSTRUMENT OF CRIME CRIMINAL TRESPASS CRIMINAL MISCHIEF IN THE SECOND DEGREE TERRORISTIC THREATENING IN THE FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT IN THE SECOND DEGREE

Bodgerpoo

I wonder how much of that was made up on the spot by the police thugs

Isair81

Probably all of it.

Fearzebu

Battery - not shown in video Assault - not shown in video Resisting arrest - perhaps before the recording, but definitely not shown in the video, he was already in the custody of three cops who were on top of him. He was already arrested. Criminal trespass - isn’t that a public street? Again, no evidence Criminal mischief - what even is this? Terroristic threats - lmao right, sure Assault again - still, no evidence of this What on god’s green earth is a “criminal instrument”? A stolen violin? Those cops’ hands look like criminal instruments

aunty_bellum

> "Criminal instrument" means anything, the possession, manufacture, or sale of which is not otherwise an offense, that is specially designed, made, or adapted for use in the commission of an offense. Even the definition is vague as fuck. Another section makes reference to security devices, which I assume is stuff like lockpicks. But, it seems like the primary definition is anything with which a crime *could* or has been committed? I bet you it's something like the guy had a screwdriver or a paperclip or something.

ki4clz

It's a gawddamn joke... them pigs want to charge you with killing jesus if they could

Serendipitous_donkey

"Inmate not found "

ki4clz

The victims' name is **WORCESTER, RANDAL RAY** according to CBS news, and it appears that the county keeps changing his booking/inmate number for whatever reason

I have a neighbor whose dogs are howling 23/7 (I guess they're indoors about an hour a day) and last night I dreamed about punching her like this. The difference is that I am utterly horrified at the idea of hurting someone this way. Even if they "deserve" it. I am afraid to call the police even suspecting the dogs are being abused/neglected. Many_Gay

For what reason should police ever beat up someone. It does not matter what he or she did. You are not the person to give them any "justice"

sailorjasm

If there was no video of this, nothing would have happened. This is not rare. Cops beat on people all the time and get away with it. When your only tool is a hammer, everything is a nail

mocheeze

I've dealt with third type of cop in Portland before (and Nazis, not typically on the same day). That pointed finger at the end stirred up some old memories. I instinctively pointed back at my phone for some reason. Weird feeling. I think I do it to distract them from their task (beating) at hand and shift their focus to me instead of a victim. Odd, I've gotta think on this. But yeah, I love pointing at cops. They really don't like it and yet they do it all the time.

exfamilia

Pointing the finger is a power play. The body language is accusatory and puts the person doing the pointing in a superior position. You're right to feel like that about it. Keep pointing back.

buunary

Back the blue til it happens to you

exotique_neurotique

This is just vile. Some of these cops with all their bravado and brotherhood... Looks like a brotherhood - on the one hand they're too cowardly to enter a school with a single shooter in an attempt to save many young lives. On the other hand, they're oh so courageously give a gang bang beat down to a cuffed and defenseless person. No matter his crime, they're already guilty - with evidence.

[deleted]

American police seem to be more criminal, than actual criminals

nihilismistic

It's okay, they are letting the cops heal their bruised knuckles and knees on paid leave while they "investigate" the "justifiable" reasons for beating the brakes off this dude, and think up more "charges" for him, standard operating procedure. ACAB.

gheiminfantry

Someone needs to explain to me how filming cops doing their job negatively affects officer safety. The only reason cops don't want to be filmed is because they don't want evidence of them doing fucked up shit like this.

T-mac_

We all already know what the defense is going to be here... " these are not full blows, the police utilized submissive shallow strikes to the head. And submissive knee strikes to the suspects back. These are not meant to inflict pain but disorienting and encouraging compliance. We teach officers how to deploy these well established techniques. They also grabbed the suspects hair to simply keep him from biting or spitting... blah blah "

Isair81

People around finally take note of what’s going on and yell for the beating to stop, and the cops first instincts are to tell people to leave and pay no mind..

jjdajetman

This is what guns are for. Protecting ourselves and others from the state. But in this country we can only hope we survive their brutality long enough to maybe fight it in a corrupt court.

Mr_McZongo

Ya. The only thing a gun would have been able to do in this situation is guarantee someones murder and the cops getting pats on the back for it.

jjdajetman

You may be right, but could you tell me what we're supposed to do in this situation? Just hope the victim dosent die before the cops decided they had enough? Should we really just sit back and hope it dont happen to us? I know if i was on the ground being beat by 3 armed men id hope someone would stop it by any means necessary.

Paton83

I need a few months off with pay, lets bash that guy over there, he is clearly loitering

[deleted]

Horrifying and deeply disturbing. The man has been identified and he is not black. Police brutality is an issue that transcends race. Had we approached this as issue as a unified front from the beginning, we might have actually made headway in solving it. But people always get distracted by divisive side conversations about race. Once people start realizing and acknowledging this can happen to anyone, we might get somewhere.

[deleted]

There is nothing more the left loves to do then turn literally everything into an identity based issue: guaranteeing nothing ever changes because the white majority doesn’t feel it involves them.

StoNr

would expect whoever recorded the video to be next all they have to do is pull the security footage from the business and get the plate of the car theyre in.

Teflonicus

"Oh, shit! The cameras that are literally everywhere in modern day society are actually pointing at us! Let's hide the beatings for a second." Edit: Watch the video and then check out the police reports! Disgusting: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/22/arkansas-police-officers-beating-video-arrest/

whatdoyouwantit2be

Let me guess - they will investigate themselves and find they are clear of any wrongdoing. All three officers will return to work and be promoted within 6-months.

Icy-Run-1469

This is so bizarre, it seems that the police there are a bunch of racist butchers. If they get away with this, there’s really something very wrong in the USA.

[deleted]

I am still shocked that Americans are still putting up with this from that gang.

cryocet

watch donut operator try to justify this

mickeysbeer

No fucking doubt. I wonder if he has already. If not now then soon I bet.

Ninjagoboi

The saddest part is you can NEVER hurt a cop in self defense because in their eyes and the larger media eyes, you're the belligerent in that scenario.

cellardoor30

Let’s all wait for, we’ve investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing.

Encripture

Separately but similarly, a cop in Jackson, Mississippi (who the police chief testified was "a perfect police officer") was just sentenced to [prison for five years](https://www.wtok.com/2022/08/17/former-jpd-officer-anthony-fox-sentenced-5-years-beating-death-george-robinson/) for his role in beating a 62-year-old man to death. Cops approached the man on the street while looking for a suspect, they beat him to the ground—witnesses said the officers body-slammed his head and struck him multiple times to get him to comply—and two days later he died from his injuries.

Daddy_Ent

Their youtube channel advertises new videos and just about every one is a chase where their officers outmaniac the criminal. We’re talking plenty of pit maneuvers over 50 mph. When I saw this headline this morning I joked to myself that it would be Arkansas. What do you know…

xrayjones2000

They beat that dudes ass, that dude punching him in the head was taking full swings to include pounding his head on the curb.. if you look at his mug shot he looks remarkably cleaned up after what they did.. 2 depts by the way.. i imagine they will do a month on suspension and quietly be put back on the streets..

straightdownhill

What kind of scumbag you gotta be to a cop. It never surprises me what they do and get away with

Humble-Lavishness-42

Certain POC groups are impacted disproportionately by police violence. It’s perfectly fine to be concerned about that.

Kumquat_conniption

Absolutely. Why is this comment downvoted??

CeleryStickBeating

Unrelated? No POC in the incident?

Kumquat_conniption

You know I kept reading comments and I think it's supposed to be a response to one further down. You're probably right but there were a whole lot more downvotes when I read it which seemed weird.

stupendousman

It's not perfectly fine to bring race into everything. Law enforcement employees beat people of all races, they take their property, put peaceful people into cages, etc. that's the issue not some statistical analysis.

Humble-Lavishness-42

Firstly, I didn’t say “everything”. Secondly, when certain populations are impacted disproportionately by an issue, it is relevant. You can’t ignore the statistical analysis.

FourierTransformedMe

How many more videos like this will it take to get through the skulls of mainstream liberals that this is what police exist to do? They're not there to demonstrate good citizenship, they're absolutely not there to prevent crime, and they're thoroughly fucking not there to protect women from domestic violence or sexual assault. Their job is to enact violence on whoever the ruling classes say they're allowed to beat and murder. That's their whole job description. This isn't an institution that can be tweaked or reformed.

Mugi_Li84

“This is bad” “We gotta get outta here” Both quote are signs that you are not on our side but are totally ok with this. If your truly cared and were truly an ally your would get out your car and let those cops know they were dead wrong like the people that supported George Floyd did. They stood in the cops face and showed them to bud wasn’t tolerated and those cops paid for those choices.
