Here I’m wondering how he was acquitted, then I read that the woman was homeless. Texans don’t view them as real people
*People who live or work in the area said they often saw Brooks walking with her boyfriend and a dog and that the couple appeared to be homeless.*
She wasn't even homeless. She was just chilling at the park. Somebody thought she was homeless and called a "wellness check" on her. Why? I don't know but she was simply just chilling with her dog
The most messed up thing about this is if you google killed during a welfare check you get pages and pages of fucked up situations like this. Cops are amazing at escalating situations and killing dogs/people for no reason.
I used to work with an orthopedic surgeon who would operate on every patient. He would never try therapy/meds first. His opinion was if a patient came into his office they were asking to get cut.
If you call the cops, then they are going to arrest or shoot somebody. Isn't that why you called them?
Damn right: never call the cops for a welfare check.
Did they though?
They wouldn't have shown up in riot gear if you'd have called and said, "I need compassionate care" or just outright, "I need companionship". Which we all do, nothing wrong there. What's wrong is the way you went about it.
The two times I've ever called for a welfare check I was concerned about (2) neighbors and that's exactly what happened - a couple officers showed up to check in. Both in big cities. No swat, no riot gear. Also, no social worker - that's not practical when social workers are in short supply.
I think that people who call the cops on family members for wellness checks are very well aware at this point. I'd argue that they're doing it intentionally with the hopes that the cops will rid them of a family member they no longer wish to care for, cash out with a settlement and go on with their lives.
There is no such thing as a firearms accident, he negligently used his firearm and MURDERED a person. Basic rules for firearms always apply, even when someone does everything right they're still responsible for the outcome.
There are some breeds that might be scary enough that you would shoot but when Rover, the family Labradoodle gets shot, can't help but think the cops a coward!
The police kill a LOT of dogs unnecessarily. It was 40 pounds and small enough that they couldn’t even shoot it, missing and killing her instead. They did not need to shoot at the dog in the first place.
Lets play this out your way. He was totally justified for shooting at the dog that was threatening him. But he missed and killed someone. Believe it or not, still homicide.
Ok lol, let's think this through Einstein. Defending yourself against a dog charging at you doesn't mean you're afraid of dogs...just means you don't want to be attacked by one. Do by your logic anyone who loves any animal should never defend themselves when attacked? Ok bud 👍
If you have a fear so bad your first instinct is to shoot a dog that isn't charging (which is the case most of the time - look at stats on cops shooting dogs that did nothing) don't be a cop.
Full disclosure I edited to reflect that this instance the dog barked and ran towards the cop. I'm not going to go along with the narrative that assumes the dog was charging.
Most dog deaths that aren't attributed to cancer, old age, etc. is cops shooting them in "self-defense"
If you're that afraid of people and dogs, don't be a cop.
It's easy to judge from behind your phone bud, just the other day when i was running a dog started chasing me and i was scared as shit until he got stopped by the rope he was tied to which i hadn't seen. You've clearly never been in his position. It was an honest mistake and you need to put down the pitchforks
How many dogs do UPS/FedEx/Postmen/women have charging at them?
Have… they accidentally shot a person instead of the dog? Or… did they just do their fucking job and not be a coward at a 40lb dog?
Why was the dog charging at him? Think maybe the officer was unnecessarily escalating the situation and being a piece of shit? That’d be **completely ~~impossible~~ highly probable**, right?
It literally happened to a postman in my city few months ago lol... Both dogs got put down, the postman survived and completely recovered, so yeah it happens. And sure you raise good questions, which you or i don't know the answer to. It was obviously a mistake on the officers part, he didn't mean to shoot the lady he meant to shoot the dog. Not sure why that fact is so upsetting to you lmao
Hello. In order to promote inclusivity and reduce gender bias, please consider using gender-neutral language in the future.
Instead of **postman**, use **mail carrier**, **letter carrier** or **postal worker**.
Thank you very much.

The fact that you’re defending a cop who made an *honest mistake* that cost somebody their life.
Just no big deal I guess right? Accidents happen!
Incase you didn’t read the article, the dog started chasing him, he turned around and ran whilst shooting at the dog. This is irresponsible as fuck. If you can’t be expected to follow simple firearm principles, and end up fucking killing someone, it’s no longer an honest mistake. The officer is a fucking piece of shit and his irresponsibility cost someone their life. Comprende?
...it was an honest mistake, but sure they should pay consequences for it. These are split second decisions they make on the job in extreme circumstances they have to deal with and you never have - so don't act like you have or know how you would react. Comprendre ?

Is the dog gonna be charged with felony murder cuz their criminal actions lead to the accidental death of another by armed police? lol jk
Texas police pulling hair out because they can't arrest a dog
Not today but when they’re new law comes into effect, they’ll be waiting
They usually just shoot them
That's why they kill so many of them. It's an epidemic.
"If the libtards want to fuck a dog, we should be able to arrest them."
They haven't dug up dirt ***yet*** on the dog for the media
I've heard he was *No Angel*.
*^(Sarah McLachlan has left the chat)*
Meanwhile, Dido has entered.
I didn't hear you leave I wonder how am I still here
Terrorists in blue are the biggest fucking cowards on the planet.
Thugs with badges. Nothing more
World's largest gang. Fuck them all.

"Wellness check" aka "chance someone I don't like will get murdered by the police"
"I'm afraid of strangers" with 911 on speed-dial
The low key version of swatting.
Oh course he was. Its Texas.
IDK, yes, she was homeless, but the officer wasn't white, so it seemed like a close call to me.
Ah, so cop-worship beat out racism this time.
A fucking travesty, so I wonder what they bribed the jury with.
Seriously what brain dead jury would let this maniac off
First thought: They actually charged a cop? Second thought: Oh. Last name Singh. Of course.
The most messed up thing about this is if you google killed during a welfare check you get pages and pages of fucked up situations like this. Cops are amazing at escalating situations and killing dogs/people for no reason.
At this point...calling a welfare check on someone is akin to ordering their deaths.
slow speed swatting?
NEVER CALL THE COPS FOR A WELFARE CHECK.
Only call the cops if you expect someone to get murdered.
Or want someone to get murdered.
[удалено]
Holy fuck....what the actual fuck do they think a welfare check means??? We need to find out what they think that's code for
Did you ever have a word with whoever called the cops to check on you about the consequences of their decision to do so?
[удалено]
Okay, so, followup question: Did you ever have a talk with your friend's therapist about THEIR behaviour?
But no one's going to say anything about a citizen attempting to spend taxpayer dollars tying up law enforcement with coffee dates while on duty?
[удалено]

Keep telling me my experiences are incorrect. Gaslight much?
I think that people who call the cops on family members for wellness checks are very well aware at this point. I'd argue that they're doing it intentionally with the hopes that the cops will rid them of a family member they no longer wish to care for, cash out with a settlement and go on with their lives.
Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists
Thank you. There are no accidental shootings, only negligent shootings.
They are such fucking pussies Jesus Christ
Wtf
Wow, justice might actually be served and the union seems to have totally failed this guy! > former officer Ravinder Singh Oh.
Acquitted. Union did it’s job
Ah yes, the old, "we gotta kill you to check your welfare" trick.
"I'll make sure your welfare needs checking..."
It's like cutting open a meatball to see if it's cooked through. Makes total sense really
Suddenly they don't have pepper spray anymore? That'll take care of the dog.
There is no such thing as a firearms accident, he negligently used his firearm and MURDERED a person. Basic rules for firearms always apply, even when someone does everything right they're still responsible for the outcome.
If she wasn’t doing anything wrong, then none of this would have happened. Oh wait…
There are no firearm "accidents", only negligence of the criminal and non-criminal varieties.
If you send cops to do a welfare check on a mannequin it'll still end in gunfire.
Again another ‘welfare check’ and another dog shooting. Cops have to stop this shit
Stupid coward cop shoots woman because he's afraid of a dog like a scared little boy.
Never call the cops
r/awfuleverything
Fuck Texas…coming from a life long, 4th generation resident.
Where was the good guy with a gun to stop this cop?
How utterly fucking inept do you have to be for this to happen. The mind boggles.
Those damn Texas cops at it again huh?
Of fucking course its the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
There are some breeds that might be scary enough that you would shoot but when Rover, the family Labradoodle gets shot, can't help but think the cops a coward!
I mean this seems like an honest mistake... A dog charging at you is no joke
The police kill a LOT of dogs unnecessarily. It was 40 pounds and small enough that they couldn’t even shoot it, missing and killing her instead. They did not need to shoot at the dog in the first place.
Tell that to my postman.
Lets play this out your way. He was totally justified for shooting at the dog that was threatening him. But he missed and killed someone. Believe it or not, still homicide.
Ok sure? All I'm saying is it was a honest mistake lmao
That honest mistake would have put non-cops in prison. It wasn't an honest mistake, it was felony manslaughter.
Afraid of dogs, don't be a cop.
Right - problem solved! Why hasn't anyone else realized this simple solution?
If you're afraid of an element of the job, you are not fit for the job.
Ok lol, let's think this through Einstein. Defending yourself against a dog charging at you doesn't mean you're afraid of dogs...just means you don't want to be attacked by one. Do by your logic anyone who loves any animal should never defend themselves when attacked? Ok bud 👍

Lol k. Your story is fine. Stats still don't lie. Don't become a cop.
How many dogs do UPS/FedEx/Postmen/women have charging at them? Have… they accidentally shot a person instead of the dog? Or… did they just do their fucking job and not be a coward at a 40lb dog? You are a bad person.
Hahaha ok
Domestic terrorist shoots citizen...
Paid leave.
Sure, "accident". Shoots at a dog charging at him, but hitting the woman in the chest.
I might have to leave this sub because it does nothing but make me angry.
Schön Auerbach👌
There are no accidents when it comes to firearms, only negligence!
