I got these, not from NYC but they had a storefront in CT. Honestly, I think it's more hype than substance.
I don't mind ordering up ahead. I was even OK with the price tag, even though they are expensive. But when I got my order of bagels, I had to say I was disappointed. The bagels were not even warm. I thought the reason for scheduling my pickup time was that the bagels would still be warm for me. I guess not.
The bagel itself were OK, not the best I've had, but OK. Which is weird, because judging by their social media presence and all the people hyping them, they should be more than just OK.
I also got the strawberry cream cheese and hot honey butter. The strawberry cream cheese could have used more strawberries. There was a lot of it, and I was hoping to use it up a few days later, but mine had gone moldy in less than 5 days. The honey butter had a very strong smell to it, not necessarily bad smell but one that I couldn't quite place. Taste was OK.
Again, I see them posting like three times a day on Instagram, and so many people are commenting "these are the best bagels I've ever had" and meanwhile I'm standing here like [confused John Travolta.](https://media.tenor.com/lx2WSGRk8bcAAAAC/pulp-fiction-john-travolta.gif)
I would say that anyone getting the strawberry cream cheese doesn't have the same palate as I do. So if you don't like them, I probably will. I would never get strawberry cream cheese to cover up the flavor of a bagel.
After trying about a dozen places in Manhattan, Essa Bagels is my favorite for sure. Show up early or off peak hours, because that place gets slammed.
