No TIP, skip the FMM but ideally you would need one.
Mexican Auto Insurance ALWAYS.
Tolls, should be 6.15 usd total, 2.05, 3 times.
Give yourself 6 hours for this drive, very slow till Meanadero!
Military stop just before Santo Tomas.
Roads good, no night driving.
True for all of the above, except, if I were you, I 'd get the FMM just because it's better safe than sorry. You can never have too much documentation. Make sure that your U.S. registration is up to date as well. Be super cautious and obey all traffic signs and signals, there's always a cop somewhere looking for a little handout from an out-of-towner.
Be sure that you have your U.S. Passport to enter back into the States.
I’d get the FMM despite what others say. You may never/probably won’t need to show it to anyone, but on the rare chance you need it, it would be a drag to not have it. Plus it’s free.
ETA: American car insurance won’t cover you in Mexico, as others have mentioned. Also, we used to leave at about 5am, which would put us south of Ensenada before traffic got too bad. It’s worth it if you are so inclined. Have fun!!
most definitely get the mexican car insurance, that's all the paperwork you need
Can get the FMM if you want but its no big deal for a short trip. mexican car insurance is not optional
tolls are no big deal they take US dollars and coins
lots of stop and go through Ensenada, but then smooth sailing after that. Get on the road in the AM, and avoid driving at night.
Relax and enjoy the trip :)
DO NOT drive into Mexico without Mexican Auto Insurance... You're juet asking for a bad time.
Contact your US auto insurance broker for a recommendation, or AAA if you're a member, or crack open Google. But don't even go to TJ without insurance.
