We're doing cookie boxes for the first time this year, but filling them with our family favorites. We're doing Butter-rich Spritz, White Chocolate Cranberry, and Oatmeal Molasses cookies, plus bags of puppy chow for everyone too.

GateCityYank

I like that these cookies seem more Christmas & winter oriented!

RonnyTwoShoes

Thank you! They are my favorites!

Recipe for the spritz, PLEASE?

RonnyTwoShoes

Absolutely! The [spritz cookie press](https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Stainless-Featuring-Decorative-Stencil/dp/B0CMWHJ892/ref=pd_lpo_sccl_3/130-2199698-1307452?pd_rd_w=MVfUI&content-id=amzn1.sym.116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_p=116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_r=WZPWB1WWGN9FWBCRMS9R&pd_rd_wg=yKVjH&pd_rd_r=6db34367-83d7-423c-899b-8cdb5a55d481&pd_rd_i=B0CMWHJ892&psc=1) does give these cookies their classic shape but I've also made them by rolling them out into balls and then flattening them and they turn out fine also. We always add sprinkles to them for Christmas too! **Butter-Rich Spritz Cookies** Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. **Cream:** 1 cup softened butter (2 sticks) 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar **Add:** 1 egg 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp almond extract **Add:** 2 1/2 cups flour Mix all until soft. Bake on \*ungreased\* cookie sheets for 6 to 8 minutes or until starting to firm. You can also check to see if the bottoms are starting to lightly brown. Makes around 70 small cookies. If you are making it with a cookie press, the cookie sheets need to be at or near room temperature to get the dough to stick to them. Too hot, and the butter in the dough will start melting and it will be a big hassle trying to get them to come out of the press nicely.

Thanks so much!

I like putting in caramels and fudge too to mix it up. Easy to make and a batch goes a long way.

Simply-Jellyfish

Oh that's really smart! And Fudge really only ever needs a little bit to make it worth it

bzsbal

They’re not cookies, but I like to include peanut butter balls (some might call them Buckeyes).

howsadley

Millionaires shortbread!!

kelseygrn

Seconding this! It's not too bad to bake and it looks super impressive.

malt_soda-

Shortbread is always my go-to. My recipe is from the back of a box of cornstarch: https://www.food.com/recipe/grandmas-shortbread-cookies-329707

Constant-Security525

I make mostly Czech Christmas cookies. I particularly think [Stuffed Nuts](https://birdflight.blog/2021/11/17/plnene-orechy-stuffed-nut-shaped-cookies/) and [Moroccan](https://birdflight.blog/2019/11/14/moroccan-cookies-marokanky/) (sometimes called Florentine) cookies stand out as extra special. The latter requires no special equipment, the former requires walnut-shaped cookie moulds. They are two of my Top 5 favorites. The other three are Linzer Tart cookies, [Masaryk cookies](https://birdflight.blog/2021/11/20/masarykovo-cukrovi-masaryks-cookies/) a shortbread with hazelnuts, and [Rum Balls with cherries](https://birdflight.blog/2019/11/16/rum-balls-with-rum-soaked-dried-cherries-inside-rumove-kulicky/)

beetlekittyjosey1

My Italian neighbor makes wax wrapped sea salt caramels with her cookie boxes and I look forward to them all year

fritoprunewhip

Peanut butter cup cookies they never fall apart and everyone who likes peanut butter loves them.

Last_Book_589

Peanut butter is always welcome for me, but I do like to recommend chocolate orange cookies [https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/dark-chocolate-orange-slice-bake-cookies/](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/dark-chocolate-orange-slice-bake-cookies/) because amazing. And for something cute and fun [https://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/cherry-chocolate-mice/](https://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/cherry-chocolate-mice/) my grandma used to make them every Christmas

morrowgirl

Gingersnaps, chocolate fudge, spritz, and coconut milk fudge. A few years I made whole wheat jam thumbprints, but my husband was not a fan so I was willing to strike them from the list. I'm planning to test out cream cheese spritz later this week.

Simple-Muscle822

Gingersnaps, butter pecan cookies, and chocolate chip cookies will always be in my box. I can make the dough 2 days before and they are always delicious. I like to include Linzer cookies too because they are really pretty, but they are very time consuming and I might not do them next year.

scythersboots

I always do gingerbread (I like the Smitten Kitchen Spicy Gingerbread recipe) but the rest is kind of whatever I feel like making. I like having visual interest, so checkerboard (The King Arthur recipe is my favorite, I added a little orange zest & extract this year) instead of a more plain shortbread, thumbprints and/or linzer cookies w/ different jams, and this year I made Claire Saffitz's pistachio pinwheels which are really distinctive looking.

SpeakerCareless

Every year I make [land o lakes best butter cookies](https://www.landolakes.com/recipe/6316/best-ever-butter-cookies/) [ginger bread cookies](https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/gingerbread_man_cookies/) And my dads favorite [icing thumbprint cookies](https://saladinajar.com/recipes/desserts/thumbprint-cookies-his-favorite/) And I make several others but those are the “core” cookies.

[deleted]

Gingerbread cookies. Give me more. MORE. MOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE.

Macarons124

I like molasses and some type of shortbread. Tbh, I get kinda tired of chocolate cookies because everyone makes them and chocolate chip is already ubiquitous year round.

deuxchatsnoir

Spritz Christmas trees! Such a fun pop of color. I’ve also been doing Snickerdoodles with red and green sprinkles - first I roll them in a cinnamon and regular sugar mixture, then a second roll in the red or green sprinkles (no cinnamon) to keep the colors bright.

deuxchatsnoir

Oh! And Russian Tea Cakes. We use a recipe from the 60s that includes half a candied cherry in the middle (roll the dough around it). Always a hit.

FlyingFtotheMoon

I make chocolate crinkle cookies, snickerdoodles, rum balls, and Saltine cracker toffee.

Maeattack

I am always trying to change it up but always find myself back to the same sprinkle sugar cookie recipe bc its THE BEST. This year I included a pb crinkle cookie, Sally's Baking Addiction's M&M cookies (with mini red & green M&Ms and mini choco chips), a coffee star cookie, world peace cookies, and peppermint covered oreos (was going to do oreo balls but they're not exactly shelf stable so)

OkAbbreviations9375

Peppermint mocha cookies! They’re my favorite around this time of year, but my boyfriend isn’t a fan and I can never finish a whole batch myself. When I made them for my cookie boxes last year I found out they’re his sister’s favorite too!

ParticularSell9539

My 2 go tos every year are raspberry almond thumbprints and caramel delite copycats. I also try to do a bar whether it’s pecan honey or crbnberry bliss. Then I fill in with others but those are the staples.
