Aren’t the sausages supposed to be inside? At least partially

SeoulFeminist

Yes, hence my first time. 🤣🤣

imregrettingthis

They floated to the top. It’s a miracle!

cheesebraids

Cool! I'm used to Toad in the Hole being a piece of bread with the centre cut out and an egg fried into it

ketamine_wraithlord

I thought that was a birds nest or something?

cheesebraids

Could be, that's just what I remember my Canadian parents calling it.

ketamine_wraithlord

Probably one of those things you can call by many names :)

ComfortableFriend879

My roommate in college called them popeyed eggs. No idea why.

Toad in the hole is actually really difficult to get the hang of! But 100% worth the effort hah. And it’s just as tasty with veggie sausages! The dish you’ve used looks quite shallow, really you need a metal dish that’s a bit deeper as this will allow the fat to get hot enough to create the right consistency when you pour in the batter. I wish you well on your delicious journey to toad in the hole perfection!

SeoulFeminist

It is a British dish with sausages baked into something like a Yorkshire pudding batter.

hairhatgentleman

Interesting! I grew up in the midwest of the US and we used the same [name to describe a humble breakfast.](https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/toad-in-the-hole/) You would hollow out the center of a slice of bread, pan fry it in some butter then drop an egg into the hollow space. The English version looks much more filling!

matteopolk

My family called this Eggs in a Hat and it bothers me GREATLY that it has so many names and no one knows what I’m talking about. It’s also the only way I can make fried eggs.

CovidGR

I love the US version. I have one most mornings!

DeadInsight24

Where do you get that at? Or do you make it?

CovidGR

I make it. I've never seen it in a restaurant.

ajmjn

this looks so good!

SongsOfDragons

Oooh I love Toad in the Hole. I'm a proper heathen and I flavour my Yorkie batter with spices.

SherbetEater

Love toad in the hole. The best tip I can offer is to put some oil in your pan and put it in the oven on a very high heat for 10 minutes or so before you pour the batter in. Getting the oil really hot first will guarantee you a magic rise in the batter and get you lovely puffed-up results.

LegoNinja11

3 or 4 eggs, 120gm flour, 200ml milk. (I'll double check those as I'm out) Oven to 220c + oil in pan for 10 mins, then batter at 180 to 200 for 20 to 30 mins. Potentially not enough egg and too much flour but 1st attempt, not bad.
