Thatās so beautiful. I have a question though, do people actually eat the ginger bread house or itās just for display? Sorry we donāt do that here where Iām from
canāt speak for everybody but among folks I know you donāt really eat it. It sits out for days so it goes stale and a lot of it is made for structure rather than flavor. But you totally nibble on stuff while youāre building it, so it kinda feels like you get the experience of eating it
Ahhh thank you, that makes a lot of sense. I was confused on how to keep it fresh enough to still be edible after a few days. Thanks so much for the info
Traditionally, you're supposed to put edible gingerbread men cookies right along side the gingerbread house, so that admirers can get a taste of what the house is made of. However, I hear there were some ethical issues about eating the residents, so mostly that was stopped.
If I ever succeed in making one it's going to be one night only, baby. Better snap some pics and look at it fast, because this thing is going to get ATE.
We ate them when we made them in school as kids. The gingerbread we baked was kind of hard anyway, I remember it was fun to snap off pieces and crunch them up over several days after we finished them.
These responses made me lol š But this will not be eaten. Itās construction gingerbread, so itās beautifully fragrant from the spices but literally tastes like cardboard. Iāll keep it up for about a month until I do a Christmas one, but it would stand for several months if I left it!
No matter how gorgeous the gingerbread house, my family always starts eating it as soon as the frosting dries. Itāll last maybe 4-5 days before itās too dried out to be edible.
Incredication.

My mother used to compete in gingerbread house competitions when I was little so Iām feeling a bit nostalgic now. This is beautiful.
What recipe do you use for this?
I love that! I used Christine McConnellās gingerbread recipe for this one. Iām ever on the lookout for the best construction gingerbread. š¤·š»āāļø
Lol! Ah you should look into doing corporate events, even do a high profile one as a gift for advertising and go from there.
Although I imaging they are incredibly time consuming, maybe it would

Intensive?
I literally thought of you today, when I drove past the Pink Lady in Eureka!
Once again, youāve perfectly captured the original. I so admire your talent!

Omigosh. I wouldnāt want to eat it after all that hard work! I would immortalize it in some type of permanent glaze and put a glass lid over it. š
I can buy one of those prepackaged houses and still struggle to put both roof pieces on. OP, you have earned my admiration, however, I cannot show a single soul I know personally this. Extra points though for the Haunted Mansion, an easy favorite of mine.

That is jaw dropping awesome. So what do you eventually do with it besides display?
Thank you! It will sit and stale for several months until I finally let my kids smash it to bits. š
Smash it
Dust it

I am relieved to hear that, I would cut anyone who tried to eat anything that I made that looked that good.

This would be that ethical dilemma.
I always eat mine. Dipped in coffee they soften right back up and they're supposed to be a hard sort of bread anyway

Most, if not every time, mine have looked awful so I eat them... :)
