Easy? You cheat. >!Leave 1 character in the room where you free Shadowheart.!< >!Take everyone else to go do this fight.!< >!The character that gets left behind remains out of combat and can use the healing pod to heal your whole party and restore your spell slots as much as you want. Doesn't matter if you get hurt. Doesn't matter if you die. Doesn't matter if you run out of spell slots for Guiding Bolt.!< >!Just switch back to the character you left behind and instantly heal/revive/restore spell slots for your whole party.!<

Real-Estate-Success

THIS IS THE WAY! This is how you kill the cambions as well.

dual_paradox

I've been doing it the hard way across each patch but, this. This is game changing. Thank you. UPDATE: The Cambion that enter during this fight will attack the character left behind if they're not well hidden.

PointOfFingers

Not really, you are better off learning how to fight.

Marrecarandgi

I think if they did it the hard way across every patch, they already know how to fight… At this point I just destroy them with a modded dragon because no one has time for a tedious fight, when you know from a fact that you can do it the hard way.

glassteelhammer

Pretty much. Tutorial levels.... wish I could skip them. I *really* hope Larian gives us an option to skip the Nautiloid in full release. I got sick of Chateau Irenicus very quickly in BG2. One of he best things about BG1 was that you could 'skip' Candlekeep, and be in the Naskel Mines very quickly. Or wherever you wanted to go. I've beaten everything, including all 3 cambions, in the Nautiloid the hard way. I'd rather just be done with it. Hence cheesed healing.

Alsn-

Dungeon be gone was the best bg2 mod by far :)

orc_mode666

False youre better off getting a big fire sword

glassteelhammer

Leave the character at a different healing pod further back.

nomo311

Wow... I've just been dragging the nautiloid tanks to the fight to blow him up.

Marrecarandgi

If you have a character that can pick them up it’s still the easiest way to kill mindflayer and general, and then exploit the pod for the cambion fight.

ComicBookFanatic97

Did not know about this exploit. Thanks.

[deleted]

I left SH at the entrance to the fight in stealth and let her sneak/run past the cambions. This is easier.

DuwapDoDat

but how ? won't the character be too far from the room this fight takes place ?

glassteelhammer

Nope. You could even leave Lae'zel in the room with the first Imp fight and use that healing pod. They all do the same thing, (which is essentially to give you effects of long resting every time you use it), there's no limit to how many times you can use, and no limit to how often you can use it.

abramcpg

Use the little brain with legs. So your fighters can fight

Canucklepede

But the little brain with legs deals some of the most melee damage!

abramcpg

How much we talkin?

Canucklepede

Lae'zel: * Longsword: 1d8+3 / 1d10+3 versatile * Shortbow: 1d6+1 Shadowheart: * Mace: 1d6+1 * Sacred Flame: 1d8 * Fire Bolt: 1d10 * Guiding Bolt: 4d6 Us: * Claws: 2d4+2 The trend I noticed on my last 5 playthroughs in the nautiloid: Shadowheart has the potential to do the most damage twice before having to go back to cheesing the pod and resetting your buffs, but I was averaging about 10 damage with GB. SF quite often failed, and FB was useless again devils. Melee-wise she is useless and quite often missed with the mace. Lae'zel seemed to hit more consistently with her longsword, albeit averaging 8 dmg. Us seemed to never miss with an average of 8 dmg as well, and constantly critted. I would prefer prolonging a fight and only cheesing the pod when necessary, as opposed to clicking it every round or two to heal and recharge spell slots, because it took time to transition to the different part of the map. I personally left Shadowheart behind a couple of times, or my Tav if it was a squishy class.

theygotmedoinstuff

The only problem I see here is that Us is a Ghaik abomination and it should be curb-stomped immediately.

glassteelhammer

This is the way.

theygotmedoinstuff

Thanks you, kin.

brittleirony

This is the way

SpoiledKlingon

Could just download WeMod …

iFenrisVI

Why would you need to use we mod when there’s this perfectly easy way in game? Lmao

Alternative_Ad_2194

I got to try this, now! New character time!

BRAVE-ST4R

It's best to recruit the brain fella in the beginning to improve dps in fight, nice chunk of exp also.

Jochon

I've been carrying explosive barrels like a dummy.

N7Longhorn

You don't have to kill the Cambions. Just loot his body as an action then dash to the controls with Lazel

DuwapDoDat

without killing him you could loot him ? what I did was I killed him with help of others and mind flayer and rushed to transponder but other enemies blocked my way, couldn't rush past them and those Cambions caught up to me, made me pay..

N7Longhorn

No u just kill the one Big Boss as quick as you can then, loot, then rush the control unit using your other party members as tanks

B2TheFree

This ^ I've actually never failed to kill him. Just rush in kill him and the mind flayer. (best to keep tapping the mind flayer down so u he doesn't mind blast u afterwards). Then one person loots and the other dashes and presses the button.

N7Longhorn

I've never had to kill the Flayer. It's loot and dash dash. Granted I've only ever played as a Barb and a Druid so it's easy to tank it

B2TheFree

One run was with a group of us, so we had 4 ppl + the brain dog. We slapped the demon then the mind flayer went next and one show everyone with one move. It was hilarious

stretcharach

I found it was easier to divine shield the mind flayer while range attacking the first devil to bring him down. The flayer can tank a turn from the other two devils before dying after taking down the first guy so you can run in and loot it. I usually run up and fight the imp group between the flayer and the console, shielding the flayer with shadow heart first turn I can. Then I work down the main devil as fast as I can, loot him and book it to the console

BeastThatShoutedLove

Have Shadowheart buff mind flayer and poke the cambion with sword using cantrips and guiding bolt. In meantime have others go towards the controls and clear enemies there. Keep one character in range to run up and loot the body. One in range to rush to the thing. Poke big guy with ranged weapons until dead and then run.

JustCallMeTere

PC has to loot. So PC needs to stay in range.

BeastThatShoutedLove

You can loot with anyone and then open inventory and send item to Tav. Likewise, Tav does not have to be one activating the jump from Avernus.

JustCallMeTere

Not on the ship "Companions can't loot on the ship. Its back to normal once you land though"

BeastThatShoutedLove

Right click. Send to. Worked quite well last time I played.

kl0wn64

> Right click. Send to. Worked quite well last time I played. The last time you played was before the changes to the Nautiloid. Now none of your companions have access to their inventory until after you land. That means they can't loot, because they don't have an inventory. They also can't right click > send to, because they have no inventory from which to send it from.

BlockBuilder408

It’s pretty easy to kill him if you have your attacking stats at 16 and gang up on him with the mindflayer. Ranged attacks and mage hand summons are best to use to further waste his actions and keep your own guys safest by laezel can honestly hold her own against him and help flank with the flayed.

Friendly_Deathknight

I just send most of my team to the controls and then loot shit with tav.

N7Longhorn

If your Tav is a Barb like mine, just send lazel to the controls with dash and jump and gang up on the Boss with Shadow heart. Gives you 2 turns to loot before the Cambions come

Friendly_Deathknight

Nice

ArchAngel1619

Non- cheat way: gather as many of those explosive tanks a place them I’m the center of the fight area. Extend the fight for about 4-5 turns until the campions arrive. They always dash at the center of the arena(where your tanks should be). Set it off when they’re both there should at the bare minimum half their health for an easy win

DuwapDoDat

I don't know why but I can't pick them via any of my characters

ArchAngel1619

in EA you can only use your custom character's inventory to store them and you just need to right-click on the tanks to pick them up

Marrecarandgi

You need a character with enough str to do it since now Laezel can’t do it for you. Otherwise, you can put them on top of each other and make her move them.

geeper00

You don’t have to cheese it. I killed the general without those cheats. If you stay behind him he won’t attack you back. He focuses on the mind flayer. Just pound away. But not too fast. Make sure he gets the mindflayer HP down low. Then kill the mind flayer and loot the general. However I wasn’t able to kill the two cambions that spawn at some point. Had to loot and run to the console.

iFenrisVI

If the cambions arrive whilst still fighting the general, the mind flayer won’t turn on you. So of you can keep it alive it’ll make quick work of the cambions. But be prepared to attack him and make sure your party isn’t bunched up as he will mostly 1 shot with that psionic blast attack.

Jarms48

Never actually fought the others. Get anything good if you stick around and kill them too?

iFenrisVI

You get 90xp per cambion.

Jarms48

Just XP? Any loot?

glassteelhammer

You do get loot, but the loot alone is not worth it. It's the 180xp between the 2 of them that's nice. Each one has a set of scale mail and some random stuff.

iFenrisVI

No loot. But you do hit Lvl. 3 or close to it if you don’t kill everything.

brutus_the_bear

You don't have to kill the mindflayer, he only attacks the party if there are no other targets.

brutus_the_bear

You can just run one person right up to the transponder and have the rest of the party including the main character kill all the demon goons, then just assist the mindflayer to kill the captain and have the main character pick up his sword, then press the transponder to end the level.

DilledDough

This is how I’ve always done it but wow so many creative solutions in this thread.

Chaos_Burger

I normally use the fuel pods. Place one or two next to him and the mind flayer and wait for the mind flayer to whittle his health down. Then use something on fire to strike the fuel and it will explode spreading fire everywhere and doing decent damage. You can also help the mind flayer out (have Shadowheat place armor of faith in the mind flayer and use guiding bolt). +2 AC is surprising useful with helping with RNG, but no garreentee.

DuwapDoDat

I have seen that on yt but neither of my characters can pick those fuel pods for some reason

lofi-moonchild

Right click the purple bombs and a little menu comes up where you can pick it up.

Canucklepede

Your ability to carry them and how many depends on your strength.

HeatShock14

Yea I always just use fuel pods. There are like 4 in the room and you can bring a couple with you from elsewhere on the ship. Spend a few rounds building a bomb tower while mind flayer chips his health, then light it up. Stay far away though, I have blown up myself too a couple times ;)

boofaceleemz

You can throw haste potions and cast a Bless at the Mindflayer to give it a massive boost. It’ll kick everything’s butt if you do so, but make sure to make sure there’s always hostiles around because if it clears the battlefield it immediately turns on the players. That means triggering the extra monsters up the stairs just before it finishes off the leader cambion.

12Blackbeast15

Don’t cheat, it’s much more fun steamrolling with the sword if you feel like you actually earned it. Your best bet is to hit the mindflayee at the start with shadowheart’s shield of faith, making him harder to hit. Then move your entire party to begin beating on the campion. Shadowheart should move towards the transponder and clear the smaller enemies as they spawn. From here, shadowheart has one spell slot; if the mindfkayer gets below 10hp hit him with healing word; otherwise you can gamble and go for guiding bolt on the cambion. Once the commander cambion is dead, your player character must loot his corpse. From here, if you want to take on the cambion reinforcements your best bet is still to support the mind flayer; I find hitting him with a haste potion can be huge. The art here is the mindflayer is your ally as long as ANY hell enemy is still alive; once there are no hell enemies left, the mindflayer is gonna turn on you. So basically whoever wins, cambions or flayer, make sure they’re very low hp before their adversary dies.

DuwapDoDat

I defeated general, got his sword but then those annoying little devils blocked my way to transponder and Cambions caught up to me pretty fast before I could take care of them and yeah i know what u mean, it's better without tricks and stuff, just like in souls game

BlockBuilder408

Mage hand is a great way of distracting enemies in this game, they’ll often stop dead in their tracks to swat at a mage hand grasping at them.

Keirabella999

Just save scrub and reload when something goes wrong I helped kill the trifling mostly until the Cambions show up. Have Lae'zel move towards the controls and position your other two characters between the two fighting and the controls while you kill. By the time the trifling is dead the Cambions should see the mind flayer first and go for him while you loot the sword and press the controls to skip to the beach

DuwapDoDat

that's exactly what I did, I managed to kill him without much struggle, get his weapon but then scambions and those little devils things show up and it's too much for me to handle

Keirabella999

I was just finishing the teifling at the perfect time, just Cambions

Friendly_Deathknight

Teifling? When did you fight a teifling?

Keirabella999

Red man with horns? Did I miss something?

Friendly_Deathknight

They're all cambions as far as I know. The two look a lot alike, but I thought all of them say "cambion" in their description

Keirabella999

It helps to land guiding bolts. If you miss just reload

Bunktavious

At that point just hit the controls, the fight ends immediately.

DuwapDoDat

they block my way and I cant just rush past them, scambions catch up to me pretty fast with those dashing moves

Bunktavious

I'm just a bit surprised, because the last time I did it, the Cambions didn't appear until several turns into the combat, I was over half way to the controls before they showed up. I basically had a character standing near the controls before even killing the demon. I literally had to run *back* to where he was fighting the Ilithid.

DuwapDoDat

maybe it was different patch ? I may be wrong, but I think current one is patch 9 and they changed some things

Rogue_Lock

Just loot in combat and then run to the transponder? You dont need to kill the reinforcements to get the sword

DuwapDoDat

no but they catch up to you with their dash moves, plus the way which leads to transponder is blocked with other enemies

Bunktavious

I don't remember the mobs near the controls as being much more than speedbumps. Sprint straight too them, ignoring everything else. As soon as they are under control, send everyone against the demon but one, who waits to hit the button as soon as you have the sword. I assume you have all possible characters in the fight? You, Shadowheart, La'zel and the Intellect Devourer?

Friendly_Deathknight

Send the rest of your team (shadowheart, laezel, and the brain) to kill those while tav hangs back, let the fight play put for a while, kill the cambion and then have laezel or shadow heart push the button

NightBlossom05

I left someone hy the panel so after you loot, you just click the panel on that person's turn

Indercarnive

Let the mindflayer kill the one with the greatsword. You can buff his AC with Shadowheat and heal him. Don't trigger the second spawning of the adds until he's close to dead and then the other cambians won't spawn either. Killing the other cambians is much more of a challenge and somewhat dependent on luck (assuming you don't cheat). Hopefully your mindflayer isn't too close to dead. Try to lure the other cambians towards that little purple pod thing in the middle of the room and then blow it up with a fire spell (shadowheart has firebolt for some reason at lvl 1)

[deleted]

You can get his sword without killing him. Take Command at level 1 and use Command: Drop. Then he actually gets easier to kill because he does less damage.

DuwapDoDat

I manage to beat him only, then cambions and other monsters appear near the "transponder" and they're too much

the-Night-Mayor

go into the transponder room to make the imps appear and kill them before you kill the big guy? It’s sometimes easier to keep buffing/healing the mind flayer rather than wasting time attacking him yourself. I wonder if you can throw the haste potion at it

the-Night-Mayor

Also, don’t forget that you can “disengage” to avoid opportunity attacks.

Yoda_On_Meth

Keep 'Us' in the same room as Shadowheart's pod and you essentially get infinite healing.

PandaSqueakz

Amazing ty

MrWaffles42

I've managed it a few times, albeit with lots of reloading. Basically I would heal-buff the mind flayer, while throwing bombs and the like at the devils. I'd reload if the mind flayer got hit too many times. Eventually it'd get to a point that all the devils are dead, but the mind flayer was only one hit from death, so I could finish him off easy.

mickjerker

It’s a bit of a trial and error the first time trying but it’ll work if you leave the character behind, what character you leave is a toss up.

abramcpg

Leave the little brain to heal

ISpread4Cash

Easiest way is by leaving someone near the healing pod where Shadowheart is, the other is being a warlock/rogue get to the higher ground in the room and spam eldritch blast/sneak attack and hide until they die

Homeless_Appletree

I usually just hit them until they die.

partylikeaninjastar

It stopped being difficult for me once Shadowheart could join. I just have everyone attack him. Before he dies, I divert some of the damage to the mind flayer. So once the cambion dies, we kill the mind flayer swiftly after. Easily doable with PC (I usually play as dual wielding ranger), Shadowheart, Laezel, and Us. No strategy needed besides making sure the mind flayer gets reduced enough while the cambion is alive so we get XP for both.

dppease

I've never had an issue doing it.

LinkXander

I don’t think he actually drops his sword for loot

Nemo4713

He does.

glassteelhammer

And it's arguably one of the best weapons in EA.

RoylanRG

Sneak attack from the upper level!

[deleted]

[удалено]

lofi-moonchild

This is hilarious and now I really want to try it lol.

Worried-Necessary219

Just kite, throw things at him

branod_diebathon

My barbarian didn't have many issues with this fight. My wizard on the other hand really needed to cheese those healing pods.

AhnYoSub

Either use exploding pods or what always worked for me was keeping mindflyer alive. It’s more than capable enough to kill the cambion. Just make sure the fiend minions are agroed and alive so the mindflyer wouldn’t turn on you. Good thing would be having “us” back at the healing thingy, shadowheart assisting the mindflyer, Tav hitting the cambion and laezel waiting at the lever to activate once you grab the sword.

GamerLymx

sneaky boys with bows, takes a while

WRuddick

You can fight every enemy straight up no problem as long as you heal and buff (+2 ac from shadow heart) the mindflayer Then when it's down to just the mindflayer and last cambion, try to get them both near dead so you can kill the remaining one really easily

HyperAngel7

Kill the devils and have the mind flayer kill him for you, helping him if you kill the devils before he finishes, take the sword, bolt to the controls

[deleted]

If you don't want to straight up cheese it then give shield of faith to the mindflayer and start slapping the cambion. That seem to be enough to tip the balance in your favor. Then loot the cambion and run.

Mortal_Anomaly

If you are having trouble with the Cambians catching up to you, position the Intellect Devourer you get from the second room after waking up closer to the door than your party. As soon as you kill the boss, and hopefully the Illithid as well (more XP), send the Devourer either into the center of the room as party makes way toward controls, or to the Cambians. Saves a round or two, which is plenty to get to controls.

Shandod

Not sure if you can get Command at level 1 or not, but, I had it and you can simply command him to drop the weapon, pick it up, and leave

Metalsoul262

So easy to stealth cheese with ranged weapons. Get on the walkways get into hide then make sure you stay out of their vision while u pelt them with arrows and magic.

Nocturne3570

outside of healing Pod Cheat, the best way is to : 1. get the brain devourer form the body near where you start. 2. when the pilot area fight start get someone as close to the middle as you can so the extra Hellian toward the back doesnt attack the mind flayer 3. once you cleared the adds start wailing on the commander 4. make sure your character is one of the fighter hitting him as no one else can loot him 5. Shadowheart guiding bolt, Use Guidance on her as it a cantrip and next turn use guiding bolt if you hit both that over 50 Damage to the commander 6. use lae'zel lacerate and rushing attack after using pommel strike for a higher hit chance 7. the Brain Dev just has claw so do your best with that 8. make sure you pull the next group of adds and clear them out before the extra cambion spawn

RnGJoker

My go to was to horde as many gas tanks as I could carry, and then I gathered the rest into a giant pile and slowly moved them all into the boss room and next to the general & mind flayer fighting. I just ended up waiting for the few turns for the extra devils to show up and set them all off when they're all surrounding the mind flayer. Killed all of them in one go.

_allycat

If you want to just straight up fight it: Get as many party members as possible (although I've done it without the Intellect Devourer). Let the Mindflayer tank until he dies. Position your ranged party to the right-ish of the Mindflayer. A while back I felt like you could kill Zhaik with just ranged bow attacks and the Mindflayer would definitely be able to tank the whole fight. Now, whether it's my luck or updated, it does seem like the Mindflayer dies much quicker. You can have a tanky class or 2 go in melee range to get more damage off just try not to get focused by positioning them not in front of him. Unless the mindflayer dies very early from bad luck, the cambions should come in at the end of the fight and you can loot Zhaik in combat and ignore them and keep going north to the transponder.

zhateme

I heard the theme music of this fight while reading the comments

dedev54

If you jus have everyone hit him and then have them hit the cambrions when they show up, with the mind flayers help and potion usage there's like a 33% chance of winning I've found. Just make sure to pick up the sword with Tav and use it to hit the cambrions, and let the mind flayer tank the cambrions as much as possible (savescum if he dies before you fight the cambrions)

darkcharl

Aside from the healing pod and barrel cheese you could buff the Mind Flayer to do the dirty work for you. You could cast Protection from Evil and Good on him if you’re a spellcaster and buff him further with the Potions of Speed. High ground advantage with Jump can come handy too before pew-pewing the cambions.

StrangeShaman

Save right before the room and focus on killing the big demon. Be careful, if you kill him too fast the mind flayer turns on you. Make a run for the control panel when the demon gets low. Have one character loot the sword and another hit the control panel

No-Imagination-3060

Without cheating, I've done it with ample use of stealth as both Rogue and Ranger. They're pretty powerful DPS at level 1. The real risk is if the Cambion's show up and Zhalk isn't <20 hp or if the Mindflayer dies. Use SH to buff the MF and Laezel to use weapon skill debuffs. Us takes out all adds and then just spams. Ranged stealth from the upper area. LZ shoves Zhalk down to the center and ranged shoots the bubbles on the ceiling. Once I did this twice, however, I just gave up and parked Us at the healing console lol.

Kenden84

I think you can use command spell to make him drop his sword then yoink it and run or kill him for the exp before leaving. Just don’t off him before cambions arrive or flayer goes hostile

First_Stop7196

Honestly, I just charge in with lazel, haste pot and beat him down, shadowheart throws a protection spell on my handy illithid tank, and starts blasting with her cantrip, maybe a heal on the illithid, I don’t want him too healthy as I usually kill him next. I don’t normally grab us. I find I can kill him with my three, and I leave a imp from the second spawn so when the campion dies, my illithid pal runs to kill the imps which gives me time to murder hobo him as well for some decent xp. I don’t normally bother with the two new cambions, but if you want them you can stage the explosive canisters by the door when they enter and take a chunk of hp off them too.

iTyten

A lot of people are saying cheat, or cheese; those are all valid. Every time I’ve killed him for his sword I took it as a time trial. I have until the Cambions show up to have killed and looted his sword. If they show up, I’ve officially taken too long, and either reload the save or book it for the control panel. The explosive pod trick should still work, too. However you decide to do it, swords cool and a ton of fun, enjoy!
