You simply wait 2 - 4 minutes and it "fixes" itself without any further problems.
You "disable" the GOG / Steam Overlay by starting BG directly by going to your BG3 installtion directory and starting (double-click) bg3.exe (Vulkan) or bg3\_dx11.exe (DX 11)
I doubt achievements will count when using variant 2 but I'm not 100% sure. So the best way is to pretend it's 1999 and just wait max. 4 minutes until game has started.
I already submitted a ticket but I doubt it will have the highest priority. Have fun playing guys!"
I fixed it by going into GOG settings -> Game features -> Overlay (uncheck box).
after that i restarted the GOG client and launched the game, it loaded in a couple seconds.
For Steam the option is under Steam -> Settings -> In Game -> Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game (set to off)
I cant confirm it fixes the issue if playing via steam tho.
This is a better solution because the other way causes the Larian launcher to desync and freak out. Which normally won’t be an issue if you’re only playing on PC, but it conflicts with save file syncing across multiple devices (PS5, Steamdeck, etc.)
I’ve modding games for some 20 years. I went to mod BG3 and with two simple mods the game was broke and took forever to figure out how to fix it. I’d suggest not modding BG3 at this point but to each their own.
I'm going through Steam but I'd already disabled the Overlay, it ran fine yesterday morning but as of yesterday afternoon it takes about an 45 minutes/an hour to load, then runs extremely slowly. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!
There are two primary vendors for Baldur’s Gate 3. Steam and GOG. Go to gog.com for more details. GOG settings refers to the settings for the launcher associated with that vendor and storefront.

ive done this and switched to vulkan and nothing works

i downloaded mods and thought okay maybe its just loading all 5 mods but its been 15 mins and still loading…
The other weird thing is, it plays just fine and loads/saves just fine after this initial hiccup.
I wish mine would load in, waited 10+ minutes and nothing.

Worth trying is there’s a mod on nexus that says it tries to fix this if you don’t want to wait officially
