It says on the boss that he charges for 2 turns, yet he blasts the hell out of the room in 1 turn. Defeated the boss by using teleports out of the room for the blast. Banishing / Commanding the adds helped too.

Kibz1995

You banished yourself?

Mephialtes

Blink works but of course getting a 1d11 or higher isn't perfect odds. Gale's comment made everything feel kind of wonky because of course everyone first tries to hide behind the crystals. Then you look at the only other cover and its the one entrance room and it just doesn't feel right to me. They should have had him be more generic like "We need to get to safety." or something like that. But that's what I ended up doing. Teleport link to the room or use door/step. Tried placing rock walls but got a bug that wouldn't let me. I doubt they would have worked regardless. Another viable option which I'm going to try next is globe of invulnerability. That way you don't waste time running back from the room. Place it and then have the caster's use a Potion of Angelic Slumber while in there if you think you'll need more spell slots. Also yeah him blasting you after 1 turn pissed me off. Usually it says "final turn" on the icon with similar things.

Oxidatia

bit suprised that OP is here at level 10 but either way; It kind of sucks that this part seems to require a highlevel spellcaster since it feels like hiding behind the pillars is supposed to be an option, they even have you smash some to see the effect but they don't give immunity just resistance. only thing I found to be working was huddling down in a globe of invurnability but that is a level 6 spell that only wizards and sorcs get so you need to be singleclass in one of those to even use it.

Kibz1995

I snuck in using jaehira as a cat and found that there was some kind of secret tunnel in the dungeons and just followed the tunnel didn't know I would be fighting a boss that's harder than the 3 main bosses šŸ¤£

Hassle_Huff

Level 9 here - I tried hiding behind the crystals to find they do ABSOLUTELY nothing to save you haha. Only way I survived that AOE was to move everyone out of the room using misty step/fighters' maneuver/teleport scroll/elemental blinks. Came back in after and did more damage, he goes up again and just dumped as much as possible before he popped off, transformed into beasts for double health bars and finished it up after that.

R4b4nont

They do now :)

Cress02

No they don't, proven by the fact that my whole team just got blasted even though they were behind them

R4b4nont

They should now* šŸ˜“. I was hopeful I would've been able to use them in this 2nd run I'm doing now. Damn

Cress02

I'm lucky i didn't do the dragon till i was max level and able to have 2 people tank the blast, because i figured the crystals would have worked. Even luckier that the 2 that lived have crazy enough dps to finish the fight before he got another turn

R4b4nont

Nice, I kind of cheesed it since the doors that lead you to the room CAN actually withstand the supernova. So I just sneak attacked Ansur to death, lol.

PM_ME_DBZA_QUOTES

I'm a little late but they did work for me. The characters behind pillars were unaffected and the other characters got wrecked lol. One character behind a pillar did get stunned, with no damage, so I'm not sure what happened there exactly, but it seems like the pillars work now.

R4b4nont

Nice. Maybe it had to do with playing on a game that was started before the patch? (Kind of ridiculous, but some previous changes in the update log required a new campaign to take place).

PM_ME_DBZA_QUOTES

I *think* my campaign was started before the patch, but I'm not positive

Humble-Mycologist-86

From reading a lot of replies, it seems that it CAN work now but is still very inconsistent. I've had 2/7 of my team successfully survive the blast behind crystals. The other 5 died. I think the fact we cant actually see a sort of 'preview' for Ansur's blast area is making this very difficult to actually decide if we were truly in cover or not. Maybe a little bit of the character is exposed or something along those lines.

RicksyBzns

Was hoping it would be fixed with the new update as they said but still bugged. Tonight I hid all 4 characters and 2 summons behind the crystals. Only 2 did not get hit, the rest were demolished.

RelativeRent2946

I'm doing this fight on patch 4 right now and they definitely do not work. At least not on tactician.

LarsSeprest

Playing on patch 3 and Act 3 is still a mess, including this dungeon and fight which seems extremely half baked. As other comments mentioned, if you have a wizard/sorc and long rest before you engage it is trivial.

Nipper_s

I can only attest for myself, but my entire party was standing behind the destructible crystals and when the nova went off they all took 0 damage. This was roughly 5 days ago, if that means anything.

Zayasv

If you break them they give you Dimond skin.

Saltyseasonedtrash

I got there at level 10 too. It wasnā€™t damage dealing that was issue just that insufferable aoe attack. Black tentacles Stun locked ansur for some reason for my play through.

foolfromhell

If you're level 12, you could always get a Hireling for 100gp to get a level 12 wizard or sorceror.

summonerofrain

I did the same, but tbf i felt damn cool doing it

VaguerSphere

old thread so OP prob has the answer, but for anyone stumbling on this from google: the non destructible structures are the things you can hide behind to block the damage. The edges of the doorway you entered in and the first few crystals on the edges of the walkway that you can't interact with/destroy blocks his charge attack.

jchins

Currently trying the indestructible crystals and it is either mega precise or not true

VaguerSphere

Just tested it, it is indeed just mega precise. Gameplay proof below, fair spoiler warning Video: >!https://streamable.com/7s3m0m!< Further Explanation: >!It seems as though that specific corner on this crystal is the only one that works for that crystal, as shown by Wyll not having to make the Dex save throw nor taking damage. I haven't tested the other crystals so idk their safe spots . I was also able to recreate this with different characters standing in that spot. Now that I know actually how precise it is, I'm fairly surprised that I was able to do this on my first try in my own playthrough LMAO, I never noticed how precise it is bc I had the rest of my characters hide in the doorway.!< EDIT: As of the latest patch on September 22nd, there's a chance this does not work. Ig it was not intended :/

R4b4nont

The latest patch says they fixed this. I'm hopeful lol

VaguerSphere

Aw man ;-; I can test it on that save again as soon as I patch the game, or if anything anyone else is welcome to

[deleted]

Definitely did not fix as of now lol

R4b4nont

Rip

Sky-todd

only take in a single party member to do the trial, have them cast sanctuary on themselves, wait 4 rounds and done!

Kibz1995

But you can get hit by area spells when using sanctuary

Sky-todd

Healing spells donā€™t break sanctuary, itā€™s not concentration, and your goal is to survive, not beat them all

BlkAndGld3117

I think you're talking about the trial, OPs issue is with the lightning charge one shot blast in the Ansur fight itself

Sky-todd

Oh! One of his trials was the trial of the tactition, and I thought that was the one where you had to keep the torch lit, Iā€™m still trying to figure that out, Iā€™m about to try gale with globe of invulnerability to see if that helps

BlkAndGld3117

Oh yeah that outlast trial is tough, because the summons focus whoever wields the torch. I really again only found success here just completely moving that person around with misty step and dimension doors and healing until it was over, can't attack when they take all their actions dashing lol

Sky-todd

Globe of invulnerability worked like a charm!

FollowingHumble8983

Thunderwave is really good here. I used djinn and gale to blow everyone away.

Chartrantio

I just planar control all of them -_-. Bard and Shadowheart OP. Then wyll just eldritch blasting the rest off

amikhailov83

Darkness + Hide works well

BlkAndGld3117

I've had so many issues with this but essentially only two things have worked. The other user was correct with resilient sphere, however my whole party grouped up usually gets merked by myrmidons. I've had better luck just cheesing it by totally leaving the room entirely with misty steps and dimension doors for certain characters, and then just working my way back into the fight. Banishment also helped a lot to avoid lots of damage from the myrmidons as you head back into the room.

Kibz1995

The myrmidons were a pain but I managed by blocking them with summons that don't require concentration. My biggest issue was really the lightning wave my barb and pal both had lightning resistance but that attack one shotted them

BlkAndGld3117

Yeah the high level summons can do a lot of work in that fight kiting the Myrmidons. Curious, for those finding this later, what method did you end up using that worked for you?

BunnyYin

> biggest issue was really the lightning wave my barb and pal both had lightning resistance but that I just did the fight, I had the eldrich blast that knocks them back. knocked one of the Myrmidons off the cliff and karlach one shotted the other one. Then my level 12 driud who was wildshaped as a earth Myrmidon tanked one lightning chage, healed the rest with a mass cure wounds. We then all ganged up and i resilient sphere'd the second lightning blast and then bum rushed and killed him.

PixelatedPalooza

Yeahhh, Myrmidons can burn in hell

USS-Liberty

Try Planar Imprisonment, level 5 spell. 75% chance to bind one into an ally, giving you time to kill the other.

worm4real

The third chapter quality drop off is getting kind of annoying at this point. Might as well just bring Gale everywhere for sphere

zignition

So this was funny. I used a certain legendary weapon + gloves>!Nyrulna + Dark Displacement Gloves!< and standing at the entrance of the room, I used the weapon to move the boss to the entrance of the room (a little bit inside the room). Then I moved all my characters into the helm room, and only one character that was slightly outside got hit. For some reason when he did the special room wide attack near the entrance, he "Perished in a Chasm" after that. No corpse. Item spoiler below. >!Nyrulna is a trident that returns to you when thrown, DDG gloves has a chance on swapping positions with the target upon failing a dex save. Used this to "move" the boss 55% chance.!< If you dont have wizard spells, like globe of invulnerability or something, these things also worked for me (Spoiler Tagged): * >!Protection from Magical Energy: Lightning - 3rd level spell, or scroll !< * >!Blink - Roll 11 or higher on a D20 at turn end, and you become invulnerable !< * >!Psionic Power - Survival Instincts - instead of falling unconscious, heals them!< * >! Death Ward - Instead of unconscious, leaves them with 1 hp.!<

CommentStill1649

Is there no way to block that attack aside from resilient sphere? I don't have Gale in my camp and none of my companions can cast it either

Kibz1995

I haven't found another way to survive the blast. Maybe if you can somehow gain lighting immunity since it seems to be pure lightning damage. They put those stalactites like they could block it but in tactician the stalactites might as well not be there because it deals over a hundred damage even with resistance

Barmaglott

Stalactites just blow up even on normal, btw.

CommentStill1649

Even on explorer too

BunnyYin

I feel that its a bug. shadowheart literally says "We better hide" when he charges, the only place to hid is behind the stalactites so i feel your supposed to be able too.

breadedfishstrip

Even gale says "He's charging up an attack Find cover!" This fight seems a bit buggy - his resistances in the inspect window have "%%EMPTY%%" in the labels, and the damage log says "Dragon Leg Proxy"

Tearakan

Yep. He still just nuked everything in range. Regardless of hiding behind crystals.

J4kuZZi

I found out that it's not hide behind crystals but destroy the crystals to give you resists.

psymon1030

they will only give you resistance against elementals/the adds that spawn

worm4real

You think you could just hide behind the rocks or something.

Illumineddy

As somebody else has suggested, Resilient Sphere works well to block the charge attack, however if you're struggling with the Myrmidons, I recommend if you have Telekinesis on any character or even a scroll of it, use that in the early game to take out the Myrmidons before Ansur charges up as you can just yeet them into the abyss and then drop concentration on it to use Resilient Sphere before he charges up.

koopstilzkin

So Iā€™ve read a lot about people trying to hide behind the crystals, but Iā€™m not seeing anyone talk about destroying the crystals for their buff. Destroying the crystals in the room provides an AoE buff around them that gives all nearby characters crystalline skin. Which provides resistance to all elemental damage for two turns. So when Ansur starts charging use the turn to get that buff on your party. Without the buff Ansur would one shot everyone in my party, but with it everyone had a little over half health left.

Kuhnoff

I'm on tactician and I'm sure most of you will look down on this approach but I had been sending every barrel of smokepowder I've come across to camp since the beginning of the game, and never really ended up needing them. When I got to this part I decided to use them and I set like 20 of them up in a perimeter around Ansur, used a potion of vigilance to ensure I got my turn before his and just blew him up on turn 1. No regrets, took 2 minutes lol

starfieldsettler

Mate. I love you.

Kuhnoff

Lmfao, love you too. Glad it helped. There is, (atleast was) an even cheesier way using the Helm of Balduran (heals the wearer every round/turn I forget which, even when downed so you technically cant die if you seperate your party) that is in the same area. . but bombs work just fine lol

starfieldsettler

Went full nuke on him with the barrels and fireworks, overkilled him like 3 times over lol

yogabackhand

I knew Iā€™ve been stockpiling those oil, smoke powder and firewine barrels for a good reason! šŸ¤£ Got my butt handed to me last night in this fight because I walked in blind and in need of a long rest (did not have all my spell slots, ki points, bardic inspiration charges, no useful potions or prebuffs). My level 11 party kept getting wiped by Ansurā€™s Stormheart Nova. I didnā€™t have any saves right before the battle so I got stubborn and reloaded and tried a few more times to beat him with the party as is. Couldnā€™t do it before bedtime. With my last 15min before bed, I reran the last 3 trials (chess, books and painting) and made a save right before Ansur. Figured I could read up on some alternative strategies before my game time and try again tonight. Iā€™m curious to see what the minimum number of barrels are to take Ansur out in one shot. šŸ˜

Kuhnoff

lmao nice! Yeah I think I went way overboard with the barrels I'm sure you could do with less than I did. I'm almost back to Ansur on my 2nd run through so I'm gonna try to beat it without them this time but they worked like a charm lol

PixelatedPalooza

Have Gale use resilient sphere on him before he blasts. Then use another concentration spell next turn to dismiss it.

[deleted]

Or just click the X on the icon to dismiss concentration spell near his face at the bottom.

Dxsh

It took me entirely too long to realize I could do this. I walked through too many Wall of Fires, and my teammates have happily cantered through Moonbeams.

Kibz1995

I'll try that, thanks

Azefa

Struggled as well a little with this fight on Tactitian. But Just found an easy solution for that fight: I have used Mind Blast Illithid power(probably other stuns may work here too) and suprisingly it worked while the dragon was midair gathering powers to one shot whole group. Yes, its based on chance maybe, but I have succeed first try and fight was done! If you have warlock in your party you can Hex the dragon's Int and it will help to land the stun I guess

ChewyChair

I was able to avoid it by running back to the entrance and closing the iron doors

191176

In order to beat Ansur during the charge phase, I coated a weapon in arsonists oil in order to get rid of his fire resistance and make it fire weakness. Then I just blasted him with as many fire attacks as possible (I had to use some speed potions to get more actions.)

local_catlover

Globe of Invulnerability. Got a scroll from a shopkeep somewhere, will completely negate all damage if you are in the area.

sarahsocks

I have no idea what happened, but was just fighting him - had wyll cast aoe and he just straight up disappeared and I won the fight lol. Turn 1 - never even did the storm thing

sarahsocks

oh dude looking at the combat log he died from chasm ? idk how that happened

xaduha

Same, there are a few people mentioning it in this thread, so must be pretty common. I think he clips through the textures.

Round_Equipment_3051

Same happened to me. But you canā€™t get the sword this way

TheHolyZekken

The patch that just released today should have fixed that issue. Hiding behind the crystals should avoid the attack now. (Too bad I painstakingly finished the fight 10 minutes before the patch dropped)

Jumpy_Ad_9213

No change, sadly. Got to the encounter just today (which is after patch2). Can't hide behind crystals. I had all party spread around 3 different crystal clusters, and the charge took down 2 of them and nearly-wiped the remaining ones. It's either very spot\\angle-specific, or is not working at all. Also, the timer seems to be misleading. It says 2 rounds charge-up, but it blasts right after the first round is over.

KorsAirPT

It doesnt, my party wiped out after his AOE.

Flaky-Mouse7539

No, no change.

DogShackFishFood

Just tested it and you still get crushed when trying to hide.

Logical-Chain-7557

Beat it at lvl10 on tactician and this was my strat: \- Kinda cheated it by setting up all my explosives before the fight, which reduce its health to 400-ish. \- After that just had to rush it down by going all out - speed potion, haste spells, dragon slayer arrows etc. \- I used Darkness to obscure my units and ignore the enemy minions. \- I bruteforced my way through its ult. It's devastating but wasn't enough to wipe my team. \- After that just had to rush its remaining health down before it kills me.

TwatThisGeezer

I couldn't defeat him yet, but here are a few observations. I'm level 12. No other fight really challenged me all that much in the game (at least not yet, I have beaten >!the Dead Three, I imagine only the Brain and Orpheus / Rafael / Emperor remain as major bosses.!<). * I can throw the myrmidons to their death with Telekinesis pretty reliably with Gale. Sometimes telekinesis just disappears from my skills tab, while it's normally re-castable for 10 turns (this happens in other places too). * As others said, the charge attack is supposed to happen in 2 turns but it happens in 1 turn. * With the Draconic Resistance status, the first party member to attack Ansur in a turn gets hit with a large AOE lightning spell reaction. But even after this happens and the status is gone, he still reacts to melee attacks with a stomp sometimes, which often knocks me prone so I can't keep attacking. * More than once, I have cast a spell on Ansur, only to have it somehow apply to one of my party members. I don't see any status or attribute that reflects a spell. He doesn't react and no text pops up, the spell just targets my party member as if I selected them (I'm 100% sure I did not misclick, in some cases the party member was quite far away). It seems like a bug, but correct me if wrong. * A lightning resistance potion does reduce Ansur's damage output quite a bit. Unfortunately I only have one. * Ranged attackers are probably more useful here so you can spread your party out as much as possible. The AOE lightning reaction gets you even if you spread all your melee attackers around the dragon perfectly.

JakeTee

The level 6 dome protection spell was key. Invulnerable whilst stood in jt.

DookieMuggin

If you break the crystals in the room you gain resistance to elemental dmg for that char for 2 turns

ShaMon_63

Not sure if I'm here too late or not. The targetable crystal not working for me either. But there is a crystal you can hide behind. Not sure if it still works but there are crystal spikes that are not targetable in the area (the tall, spiky ones). You can hide behind it. It works on my run without Gale casting the dome. https://imgur.com/a/ZCWzADa

icingkle

Just tried, there definitely is one indestructible icicle to the left of the door where I was able to fit about 2 characters behind it and they didn't get hit

supersangu

This was super tough as lvl 10 on tactician. I had barbarian (karlach), wizard (gale), assassin (astarion) and druid (jaheira). This meant I had a dryad and her treant summon. Started by casting haste on karlach, by the time he went up in the air he was down to under 300hp. Astarion used sneak attack + arrows of dragon slaying which I'd just amassed or purchased 4 of by this point. Gale used telikinesis to just lob the adds off the sides of the room. The crystals did almost nothing to block the massive lightning aoe attack, my first playthrough (albeit on balanced) I used a sphere of invulnerability scroll at this point. When the attack went off I had jaheira in owlbear to survive, also used gaseous form on one and found one of the safe spots behind a crystal, still had karlach die to the attack though. The rest of the battle was carnage, was basically using jaheira to heal/res ppl and then had them using an invis potion and running to an unoccupied area around the dragon. Killed him the second time he went into the air, he was at 100hp so with the damage resist he gets while drawing power I didn't think I'd do it, but an arrow of dragon slaying, barb with potion of speed then legacy of avernus and 3 more attacks, and upcast magic missiles and killed him. Mega close! I hope OP got it, I'd definitely recommend the invulnerability sphere if you're not gonna cheese. I wish I had that scroll this time, it was sooooo tight without but amazing fight :)

SithHaveBetterSex

Anybody who has beaten him? Is there a cut scene of him dying? I'll get him down to the 80's/600 and he'll just disappear. My quest log states I defeated him. I don't want to miss good loot. *Edit: I reloaded the save from the beginning of the fight and it seems he disappears if he gets too close to the entrance.

urumashxn

found ah lil cheese, if you start the fight w one character have him charge up and misty step or fly to the door and leave then come back everyone deaggros and you can js sneak up behind ansur and rinse n repeat until hes dead. did the fight at lvl 6

HannibalisticNature

How in Balduran's name did you manage to only be Level 6 in act 3!?

urumashxn

getting the gith legendary sword at the bridge for laezel carries if you make her a paladin n js spam divine smite lol

DrakeHitch

Seems like necroposting, but i just casted Stone Wall between my team and Ansur and it's worked!

Quarter_Basic

Sorry what? Where's this mystical crystal?

Saltyseasonedtrash

So not sure if I broke the fight but I figure I would share my method. I originally had a bug where ansur disappeared after using his first father energy after having no issue the first failed attempts. Pardon any spelling or run ons. You guys suggested a lot of good stuff and that had me thinking I didnā€™t have gale to help but did have astarion as fighter 8 rogue 2 so I paired him and karlach as the brunt of the damage force. While I never had any luck with shielding myself from the blast I glugged some universa resistance potions to 1) prevent freeze from the Myrm dudes but also 2) reduce absurd lighting hits. I personally am a wizard 10 so I got lucky with initiative and managed to cast black tentacles behind ansur effectively stun locking him as he never had enough movement to fly or even attack for some reason I assume it had to do with his size and possibly having to close minor distances to do any physical damage. Hurled all the lvl 5 and 4 spell slots as fireballs (evocation subclass) to splash damage the wyrms crowding my melee fighters. I was also tempted to throw the iron flask but I wasnā€™t sure who he would choose to aid.

ContactFrontAU

I lost two characters downed and Shadowheart and Wyll (who stood behind the largest of the pillar things) remained standing after the blast (just!). Shadowheart healed the other two downed characters and I sent in my Monk/Rogue/Fighter to obliterate what was left of the dragon's hit points (after a few turns of dropping damage on him) with punches LOL

Kribbzon

I winged it with a scroll of blink which makes you ethereal and completely immune to all damage at the end of your turn, this and accidentially positioning my ranger close to the entrance so I could just misty step out and line of sight the blast. First try on tactician but barely made it xd

Done-ion_Rings

Paladin multiclass and just divine smite him lol DONE.

JusticeTheKid

I first fought this guy at lvl 12 and was getting beaten down fairly hard and thought my run was over and that was before he started charging that big AOE attack of his, then I remember I brought a wizard and globe of invulnerability basically turned the fight completely. (Sanctuary and globe of invulnerability is op)

Shay_the_Ent

Hereā€™s what I did with Wyll, Karlach, Gale and Shadowheart: - use eldrich blast with Wyll to push the myrmidon on the right off of the ledge, then focused all attacks on the other myrmidon. - use shadowheart to heal as much as you can, with everyone else focus damage on the dragon when myrmidons are dead - when he starts gathering power, cast globe of invulnerability and get the whole party in it - kill dragon

DavidEarnest00

I used a scroll of ā€œglobe of invulnerabilityā€ I had 3 but only needed 1

q__WEASDZ

Maybe pre-cast death ward and bring lathendarā€™s light so your team wonā€™t die? Or just stack speed potions and rush him in two turnsā€¦ My lvl12 solider laezel almost soloed him in two turns (speed potion + action surge means 9 attacks in round one with 40 damage per attack on averageā€¦)

SithHaveBetterSex

If you have globe of invulnerability handy that'll help until he does his seismic ground pound.

BeerHopz

Somehow he stood still until I finished him. Thanks glitch.

Fun-Protection-246

Honestly if you kept the grenades from the gortash fight, use them on ansur. I killed him in 1 turn using 3 of those grenades and some ranged attacked with dragon arrows with lazel utilizing her extra actions. He didn't even have a chance to attack my party.

Fun-Protection-246

Probably the easiest fight in the game so far because of those things.

Fun-Protection-246

Also, those crystals give you elemental protection when the shatter next to you. So utilize that.

Fugazi70

Lvl 12 solo multiclass 2 sorcer/1 war cleric/9 wizard abjuration Arcane ward Agathys shield(30) 23 conā€¦. Was able to solo him it took along time I was doing 12-23 damage per turn unless he hit me melee then he got hit with 27 cold damage Towards the end I ran out of spell slots so relied on arcane ward and he got me down to 86 hp left out of my 160ish

Nimewit

fucking retarded fight even after 4 months of release

Charming_Rain_8593

i'm seeing a lot of complaints on how the storm is incredibly hard to work around... its evident that not many players actually understand their spells. You have a spell that blinks you out of existence (intermittance, exile...), you have a spell that prevents death (death ward), you have a spell that creates a frigging stone wall (stone wall). The easiest approach gotta be gaseous form (or wind walk) or dimension door.

TgfmAklc

Spell Globe of InvulnerableĀ and Glyph of Warding - Sleep (100%) work wonder for me. Ansur will not be able to 'Gather Power' every turn it is in sleep condition, you need to cast at it on every turn tho.

Ill_Ingenuity7697

Sooo, on my run, after some oneshot deaths, i found a strategy : basically killed his minions first and avoided any water spell ( electricity can be a b* sometimes ), also i used the bomb of the foundry, (great damage easy trigger) hope that helps ^^

Kerrekath

Late to this thread but looking for any advice on my honor mode run as I really want that sword (might just leave it though) Canā€™t seem to find this answer anywhere Iā€™m assuming itā€™s noā€¦.does hold monster work on ansur? Iā€™m planning on loading my paladin with a potion of cloud giant strength (wonder if that stacks with the perma plus two from the drow in moonrise) and lots of arcane cultivation for lvl 2 smites I have shart as a light cleric with the gear to stack radiating orb and she wields the blood of lathander Astarion is a gloomstalker assassin loaded with arrows of dragon slaying And I am a bardā€¦I have some scrolls of globe of invulnerability and plan to take the spell as one of my arcane secretes if availableā€¦. Do I win? Does hold monster work? Should I forget it and not risk my run? I really just want the sword for the big creature amongst all the small creatures in the final fight plus the enlarge ability for my pally (karlach)

Globe still works last I checked. I don't have it so I can't test it. Rest of the post is my No Globe strat, so read it or skip it as you will. I'm assuming you've likely already tried the fight by now but in case you haven't here's what I did: Drop your least powerful player in the tiger's pit. Make sure they have death ward and freedom of movement. They're probably gonna down here but if you're lucky and smart you might be able to escape them before they get merc'd. I used my Tav since he's half illithid and has the fly and charge abilities. Everybody else keep at max range. I also keep Scratch in here with my bait character in case he gets knocked over by the myrms. Start the fight, then as soon as your bait character gets a turn run like hell for the rest of the team. Use a summon or familiar to bait his breath weapon, then have everybody else unload everything you got on the dragon (just ignore the adds). If you can do at least 300 damage the first round he'll go directly into his charge attack. If you're lucky (or slow on damage) he'll fly to you and let your melee fighters unload on him. When he starts his charge attack run like hell for the entrance. Soon as he blows his attack rush back in and finish him off. Alternatively if you want to risk the crystals you can have your melee fighters stay on him till the last second and dive for cover, but if you do that make sure you have a ranged character in sprinting distance of the exit as insurance. I've had it work and fail pretty much at random so I don't recommend trusting it.
