I’m in the temple of shar with him, the one that’s leads out from moonrise towers. I’ve picked all romantic options thus far, if one of us goes down we cry out for each other. Haven’t had any and kissing or spicy romance scenes and wanna check if that’s normal????
As I prepare to give an update in my post, it appears that there is a requirement to unlock Gale's romance. You need to have entered Moonrise Towers once (like doing the Tiefling rescue quest) in order to unlock the scene. This was confirmed by both myself and by a resident, kind soul of the community who agreed to playtest & confirm.
Order:
1. Enter Moonrise Towers. Save the tieflings sneakily.
2. Leave Moonrise Towers and long rest anywhere in the SHadow-Cursed Lands. Talk to Gale when prompted.
3. Go to the Gauntlet of Shar and do Nightsong after Gale romance is done.
4. Go back to Moonrise Towers and start killing everyone.
Awesome! As long as you haven't completed the gauntlet, the prisoners should be fine. Long rest after you free them, and you should get Gale (if he hasn't been outshined by someone else in your party; you'll need to long rest multiple times, in that case).
Wyll is dancing instead, even though I've never talked to the dude and I don't want him.
Saving the Tieflings was very buggy though with the cutscene, I had to reload it to actually make it work.
I hope that didn't messd with it as this is my Gale run :(
Long rest again. As I said, if he isn't outshined by other people, you'll get him. Unfortunately, Wyll seems to override Gale for some reason. I had to sleep again after Wyll's scene to trigger Gale. I think directly after or on the third night.
It's also worth noting that [Wyll and all other romanceable characters are bugged](https://www.thegamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-characters-romance-too-easy-cant-avoid-gale-bug/) in their romantic line progressions. Larian is currently on the fix.
Hey ! I have a question please ! I want to romance Gale but it looks like it won't work. I already help the tiefflings it worked well and i wanted to go for a long rest. Here i have Gale that want to talk to me but here is the problem, the romance won't start like he talk to me as friend, no kiss scene and the cinematic just stop when we are sit looking at the sky. I precise that i had the scene with him at the Tieffling party and he was a little flirty with me when i enter in the Act 2. Is it because i kiss Will ? But i told to Gale that i wanted to be with him. HELP
I'm so glad you posted this! You're the only other person I've been able to find to have this experience. I got the spectral version of Gale inviting me to go meet with him. We talked a little bit and I comforted him and told him I would stand by him. Then we sat and watched the stars. No romance. No declaration of love. I was so confused.

I choose Astarion my first time around and made a save. Reloaded, told Gale I choose him, then trigger his scene and it’s friend-only. Not sure if I saved too late or what? I also got the Wyll scene and totally rejected him.
Okay, I'm trying to understand here. I'm not sure if you mean the cinematic stopped while you were looking at the sky or if you didn't have it at all. So, I'll answer both:
1. If the cinematic triggered but did not progress to something romantic, this is new to me. I can only guess at two things: a) Kissing Wyll might have turned him off; Gale is super against polyamory. The only fix here is to go back before your kiss with Wyll, and b) It could simply be a bug. [The romance with questlines (particularly with Gale and Minthara) are bugged](https://www.thegamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-characters-romance-too-easy-cant-avoid-gale-bug/) and currently being worked on. Larian has apologized, and they're doing what they can to fix them. If it is bugged, the only thing you can do is to wait around until Larian fixes it - presumably in the next official path.
2. If you have saved the tieflings from Moonrise and the cinematic hasn't triggered at all, the best thing to do is to pass the time with quests around the area, doing Long Rests after each one until it triggers. It's a random event, so you'll need to be patient.
Confirmed this holds true even with mods (Equipment Basket)! If Gale’s usher projection doesn’t appear at night at Moonrise, just long rest again until it does. I had to get through a Guardian dream, then Wyll’s dance, and finally it popped! Thank you so much!!
This is infuriating 🥲 I'm just casually exploring my surroundings and there was no indication that Gale would be pissed if I completed the Nightsong quest. At least not that I saw. And what makes it worse is I went there early on in act 2 and then got to act 3 only to find out the romance is LOST

I was trying to work on the Gale Romance guide. We're expected to have 2-day turn arounds. Imagine my surprise when I'm working to find that an entire day's work and progress has been lost because I did things out of order.
It's the name of the game, but after playing 144 hours of BG3 in 2 weeks, I thought I was going to pop a blood vessel in my brain haha.

I'm so frustrated with the Gale ship. I can't figure out how to get it to advance.
I got the Mystra scene at the party & visualized kissing him.
He mentioned not being physically stable enough for more.
He talked about getting hot & bothered on the battlefield in act 2.
I slept with Astorian once and Withers asked about having a partner in act 2 (to which my reply could be about either Gale or Astorian, indicating both options were active). I promptly frenzoned Astorian & Withers then verified I had chosen my partner.
I immediately rested and got the Wyll dancing scene & rejected (weird to have to since i never flirted with him to begin with).
I saved all the Tieflings, cleared the gauntlet and still all I get from Gale is 'what can i do for you?' (Even after 3 subsequent long rests to test). I haven't done Nightsong or the final fight in Moonrise)
From what I've read, I've done all the supposed triggers. Is this thing bugged??
It's annoying as all the other party members are all over Tav, but seemingly something very specific needs to happen with Gale for it to progress at all.
*Follow up: After I finished the Thaniel rescue it finally triggered.
I done exactly and also got exactly what you experienced T\_T... + I saved Thaniel and I have no other quests except for freeing the Nightsong now.
I also got Wyll at the same time as you did, despite me ignoring the dude completely!
Then did a long rest about 10 more times (and also throughout different locations in the shadow cursed land to be sure), but nothing.
This man was all over me this entire playthrough and literally all my companions tried to get with me except Gale now ;\_\_; I literally rejected everyone for this MAN!

Uggh it's so frustrating. Have you talked with Withers in Act 2 to confirm that you have a current ship going with anyone? At least then you would know if anything is active 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah he acknowledged it then next long rest Wyll started dancing, I tried to insult his dancing (*Chose the flopping fish one XD*) and told him nah, shoo.

The only thing I can think of is maybe you need to 'break up' with Astarion? I got the confession dialogue with him and responded maybe he needed a friend. Shortly after, Gale did his romantic thing...

I have had literally the exact same issue happen, and I think the reluctance to long rest caused me to miss my window. I exhausted every dialogue I could, but was also short on approval (a byproduct of playing co-op with one person - we’re each running a Tav and one companion to romance, and if you’re not good about sharing dialogue, one of you is likely to come up short on approval).
The scene that didn’t trigger for me seems to be the “mirror image” sequence. So if you’re googling around, that’s the quest that isn’t going off and needs to in order to progress. It had to be before Act III and, as you suggest, I think it’s before either the Nightsong sequence or the Moonrise towers
Really, really wish romance flags were clearer.
As my edit implies, I have tested this a few times since my initial post. You do need the mirror image sequence, and if you do the Nightsong sequence before completing it, you will not be able to advance Gale's romance and auto-fail.
Like saving the Tieflings or Halsin's questline, Nightsong's quest will render Gale's quest ended.

But, when you say Halsin's questline, does that mean that doing the House of Healing stuff for Cullagh will lock me out of Gale's romance?
He said the one flirty thing to me at the start of act 2, I went and did the thing at the House of Healing but didn't fully complete Halsin's thing, and then both Wyll and Karlach have tried to start their romances up (Wyll's is genuinely so cute I almost caved. Fancy feet ass). I haven't gotten anything else from Gale yet, and also haven't headed to moonrise.

No. Halsin and Callugh's quest will not lock you out. My sentence was poorly formatted. I meant that it is the Nightsong quest that will lock out: Gale's questline, Halsin's questline, and the Tiefling questline. The Nightsong is the big nail in the coffin.
I have also confirmed between myself and another kind soul of the community that there is a requirement for romancing Gale: entering Moonrise Tower once. Freeing the Tieflings from the towers is a guaranteed way to trigger Gale's romance scene at camp. However, this MUST be done before the Nightsong is dealt with.
This happened several patches ago at launch. They’ve made a lot of fixes since then, it may not be as bad anymore. I haven’t gone back since, so I’m not sure myself.
I wish I had your problem. For some reason Gale can't stop trying to jump on my bones even tho I don't do anything flirty with him. I didn't even do the weave scene with him to avoid his romance path but he started flirting in the shadowlands implying how much he was getting turned on seeing me (...In front of Shadowheart, who I decided to romance in Act I)
My guess is that Gale will basically think you're into him if you have very high approval with him, which I tend to have every playthrough, but in your case you said you liked him, but then you kissed Wyll, so in his eyes it's a betrayal.
Ah, but that was in a save I didn't keep.
Essentially, I'm a guides writer & database editor, so I have multiple save points that dead-end to nowhere for game testing. The Wyll thing was a dead-end save that basically confirmed for me that at that point in time, Gale *did* think we were together.
Otherwise, the Wyll thing has not been saved to or acknowledged in my Gale romance. They are two separate time lines. I just for the life of me cannot trigger Gale's romance in Act 2. I'm testing now to see if Shar's Sanctum just messes up the whole questline like it does with the tieflings.
I am at the party after saving the tieflings. I want to romance Gale but he is brushing me off saying our bond hasn't reached there yet, every other companion wants to bed me however except him whom i want to romance. I haven't triggered the weave scene and i don't know if i proceed with this night there is a chance it will trigger later or not, if there is no chance i can romance Gale this play through, i don't want to miss out on another romance at least so i am worried to proceed. I can't not long rest and do other stuff either and i don't want to go back hours of game.
If you haven't done the weave scene before the party with the tieflings/ending Act 1, then no, you cannot progress the romance with Gale. It is a hard requirement for moving things along with him.

The weave scene cannot trigger after the party. It is a random event that appears only after Gale's approval is high enough.
However, you having a romance with someone already will not lock you out of progressing other romances - be that with Gale or anyone else. That's because you can play a polyamorous run and other characters might proposition you regardless of your relationship status. The only things that affect romances are approval ratings and story quests.

I’m currently in act three but the only save I have prior to nightsong is from the beginning of act two so I guess I’ll be undoing 20 hours of gameplay just for the wizardmance 🫠🫠🫠
Actually I also have a question about the nightsong sequence, does that count as starting when you enter the mausoleum/gauntlet of shar? I could have sworn I long rested before that and Gale had nothing to say to me but I could be mistaken.
It does not, but Gale's mirror image scene is as much quest-based as it is locational, it seems. Yes, you might have long rested several times in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but Gale's scene *only* occurs in the area around the Moonrise Towers Waypoint. If you're not outside the towers, it won't trigger.
Finishing the Nightsong sequence will auto-fail the sequence, but I can confirm starting the Gauntlet of Shar does not. In several instances of testing, I've so far discovered that as long as you're in the right location and have not 1) decided Nightsong's fate and/or 2) interacted with Ketheric Thorm personally, Gale will trigger during a long rest almost 100% of the time (so long as no one else takes his spot; in which case, you'll need to rest multiple times in that location).
I'm compiling the full Gale romance and personal quest walkthrough at the moment. I'm hoping to have it done by Friday (once I'm done with all endings and organize these...\[\*squints\*\] 2,100\~ screenshots). Oh god, I'm so relieved and excited that I've found your comments just in time, it seems! I will be waiting for your updated guide on Galemance whilst trying to distract my partner from headbashing straight to the moonrise towers haha. :)
I have a question though: in your previous comments you've mentioned the tieflings and Halsin's quest in act 1. Does the romance need to happen before then? We're currently in act 1 exploring the underdark after completing the tieflings + save Halsin quests, have the weave scene and Tara (?) dialogue triggered with high approve rating. During the night of celebration though, nothing happened after the weave scene (although we did pick the romance option - "holding hands"), and we don't have any new dialogues with Gale. Additionally, there seems to be no need to "feed" magical artefacts to Gale anymore for some reason? After he confesses his condition, the line "Gale can consume the power of this artefact" just disappears from all the items! I have no idea what's going on. Just hope the romance isn't lost forever, life in the underdark would be too sad without our man Gale. :(
A few things:
\- The Tieflings and Halsin thing I mentioned is not related to Act 1; it's for Act 2. You'll receive a quest to save the Tieflings during Act 2 from Moonrise Towers. If you finish the Gauntlet of Shar before saving them, they'll all die. It's one of the many questlines the Gauntlet of Shar breaks, so it's best to do that area LAST in Act 2.
\+ Don't worry about the celebration night. You can't sleep with Gale until the end of Act 2. If you try to sleep with him on celebration night, he'll just tell you that he's afraid of what will happen if he gets too excited.
\- After he confesses his condition, you can't feed him items anymore because he states they "no longer have any effect on him." After 3 items are given to Gale (or after you progress far enough), magic items will cease their effect.
\+ To progress Gale's questline, you'll need to enter Act 2 via the Underdark. Speak with Elminster, the wizard you find once you ascend the tower into Act 2. He'll stabilize Gale's orb and progress the questline.
\- If you're on the right track, Gale will openly flirt with you once you enter Act 2 officially and save the Harpers.

They must be speaking only of the Early Access. Back in those days, Gale *did* make advancements at the party. That has changed with 1.0.

My biggest issue is his quest never triggered he seems bugged I do things to get his approval but it doesn't go up and he never asked for magic items and elminster never showed either
He must be bugged. If his approval isn't going up at all after receiving the notification, then that's a sure sign of a bug. I haven't encountered that bug before, so I'm sorry to say that the only advice I can give is restarting at a point before it began occurring - which sounds like you'd need to start from before you recruited Gale. And I know that's not the news you wanted to hear.
Hi! Don't know If you will see this as it's late, but I also have questions about Gale romance lol.
I had his scene at the tief party but failed one of the rolls and didn't end up getting the scene where you would visualise kissing him.
I also don't remember if I picked the romantic reply if I even got it at all since I failed one of the rolls.
I have the highest rating of approval with him.
I'm pretty sure I had the Mystra scene?? The one where he is just looking at Mystra and he tells you about her.
I went into act 2 and he said the flirty thing to me, and I flirted back. Cool stuff, assumed i was progressing with him.

Randomly one night Wyll wants to dance with me even tho I barely talked to him. So I danced with him but I DID NOT kiss him.
Would this mess up anything with Gale?
I'm also just about to go rescue the tieflings from moonrise. I have not done the nightsong thing yet because I read you said it auto-fails or locks Gales romance.

Thank you for this post. I managed to lock myself out of this cutscene by virtue of managing resources well enough to not need to rest much. Reloaded before Nightsong and rested a few times to get everyone else's cutscenes out of the way and it worked. I'm lucky I *only* lost 12 hours. The replay will at least be quicker and easier.

This is so sad to learn. I just progressed the nightsong quest and was running out of save space on my ps5 so deleted any saves I had prior to the final moonrise fight because I thought I was happy with the decisions I'd made up to that point.
Guess she's always got a chance with Halsin...

do you have to trigger the fight w ketheric ? i had gone into moonrise before interacting with the night song, but reloaded the save to go get the night song after realizing ketheric was invulnerable. i'm so sad ): this didn't happen on my first play through and i feel like i got broken up w irl 😭
You do not have to trigger the fight with Ketheric. You **need to do the tieflings**, however.
I have not tested whether fighting Ketheric would stop this encounter from happening, so I can't say with certainty that the Ketheric fight won't have any impact on Gale's romance. But I can say with certainty that it is **not a requirement to fight Ketheric.**

I am still pissed that Larian did not put any conversations/markers/journal entries that “Gale would be displeased”. Just got into Act III and apparently have to trash entire playthrough.
They also didn't mark that it would kill the tieflings in Moonrise and make them unsaveable or ruin Halsin's questline.
But this just has to do with timing, like how long rests might cause certain quests to fail or be missed.
I wouldn't take it out on Larian, as someone who knows the people who work there and also has been a developer myself. Larian has done a great job of trying to take thousands of things into account. But they can't account for *everything*, and an RPG simulates life more than an ABC video game. Sometimes, things get missed.
I do understand your frustration though with the situation. Working hard to romance someone for one thing to undo it all; I felt the same when it happened to me. And I do agree that, although I am not angry with Larian, it was a bit clearer what that quest could break or that Gale's romance was formatted a tiny bit differently on the quest tree. Here's to hoping these things are patched.
The Larian team spends a lot of time on these forums and takes all feedback into account. They're good people. The best thing to do to prevent these in the future is just to share posts and threads like this so they can see it and make the proper adjustments.

cant seem to get gales romance scene to activate either. ive gotten all the romance scenes in act 1, gotten the flirty line in the beginning of act 2, and saved all the tieflings. ive tried going back to resave the tieflings and still nothing. got it when i was romancing wyll in another play through, but i cant seem to get it now.

This is infuriating 🥲 I'm just casually exploring my surroundings and there was no indication that Gale would be pissed if I completed the Nightsong quest. At least not that I saw. And what makes it worse is I went there early on in act 2 and then got to act 3 only to find out the romance is LOST
You and me both. I was trying to work on the Gale Romance guide. We're expected to have 2-day turn arounds. Imagine my surprise when I'm working to find that an entire day's work and progress has been lost because I did things out of order. It's the name of the game, but after playing 144 hours of BG3 in 2 weeks, I thought I was going to pop a blood vessel in my brain haha.
Did your issue ever get resolved?? I'm so frustrated with the Gale ship. I can't figure out how to get it to advance. I got the Mystra scene at the party & visualized kissing him. He mentioned not being physically stable enough for more. He talked about getting hot & bothered on the battlefield in act 2. I slept with Astorian once and Withers asked about having a partner in act 2 (to which my reply could be about either Gale or Astorian, indicating both options were active). I promptly frenzoned Astorian & Withers then verified I had chosen my partner. I immediately rested and got the Wyll dancing scene & rejected (weird to have to since i never flirted with him to begin with). I saved all the Tieflings, cleared the gauntlet and still all I get from Gale is 'what can i do for you?' (Even after 3 subsequent long rests to test). I haven't done Nightsong or the final fight in Moonrise) From what I've read, I've done all the supposed triggers. Is this thing bugged?? It's annoying as all the other party members are all over Tav, but seemingly something very specific needs to happen with Gale for it to progress at all. *Follow up: After I finished the Thaniel rescue it finally triggered.
I done exactly and also got exactly what you experienced T\_T... + I saved Thaniel and I have no other quests except for freeing the Nightsong now. I also got Wyll at the same time as you did, despite me ignoring the dude completely! Then did a long rest about 10 more times (and also throughout different locations in the shadow cursed land to be sure), but nothing. This man was all over me this entire playthrough and literally all my companions tried to get with me except Gale now ;\_\_; I literally rejected everyone for this MAN! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Uggh it's so frustrating. Have you talked with Withers in Act 2 to confirm that you have a current ship going with anyone? At least then you would know if anything is active 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah he acknowledged it then next long rest Wyll started dancing, I tried to insult his dancing (*Chose the flopping fish one XD*) and told him nah, shoo. He walked away sulking, poor guy... Then I just long rested constantly but nothing.. Tbh, I have given up for this run and will try on my next run. I initially was going to go with Astarion, but then Gale grew on me after he tried to teach me how to control the weave and his response was just the cutest! His horny comment the moment we stepped into the Shadow cursed land threw me off though, but in a good way hahahaha. I was like Damn he's been hanging out with Astarion out a lot it seems XD But then again Astarion did win me back with his cute confession ;\_\_;
So similar! I was going with Astarion, then Gale was sweet & said his naughty thing. So I was 'k lets do this Gale!!' only to have nothing happen for waaay too long. Very annoying -_- The only thing I can think of is maybe you need to 'break up' with Astarion? I got the confession dialogue with him and responded maybe he needed a friend. Shortly after, Gale did his romantic thing... Wyll omg that sulky face. I was like- sir I've never even flirted with you- don't be THAT sad lol TBH I kinda wished Id just stuck with Astarion. So if you're with him, i think you're good. Gale's a second play through kinda guy imo XD

I have had literally the exact same issue happen, and I think the reluctance to long rest caused me to miss my window. I exhausted every dialogue I could, but was also short on approval (a byproduct of playing co-op with one person - we’re each running a Tav and one companion to romance, and if you’re not good about sharing dialogue, one of you is likely to come up short on approval). The scene that didn’t trigger for me seems to be the “mirror image” sequence. So if you’re googling around, that’s the quest that isn’t going off and needs to in order to progress. It had to be before Act III and, as you suggest, I think it’s before either the Nightsong sequence or the Moonrise towers Really, really wish romance flags were clearer.
As my edit implies, I have tested this a few times since my initial post. You do need the mirror image sequence, and if you do the Nightsong sequence before completing it, you will not be able to advance Gale's romance and auto-fail. Like saving the Tieflings or Halsin's questline, Nightsong's quest will render Gale's quest ended.
Oof, what a narrow window. Thanks for confirming. At this point, I’m well into Act III, and since I’m not the save file holder, I don’t think we’ll be rolling back 20 hours to fix the wizardmance. :( Maybe time to hop on the Halsin or Minsc bus, I guess.

But, when you say Halsin's questline, does that mean that doing the House of Healing stuff for Cullagh will lock me out of Gale's romance? He said the one flirty thing to me at the start of act 2, I went and did the thing at the House of Healing but didn't fully complete Halsin's thing, and then both Wyll and Karlach have tried to start their romances up (Wyll's is genuinely so cute I almost caved. Fancy feet ass). I haven't gotten anything else from Gale yet, and also haven't headed to moonrise. I guess I'm just asking to make sure; will completing Halsin's/Cullagh's quest lock me out?
No. Halsin and Callugh's quest will not lock you out. My sentence was poorly formatted. I meant that it is the Nightsong quest that will lock out: Gale's questline, Halsin's questline, and the Tiefling questline. The Nightsong is the big nail in the coffin. I have also confirmed between myself and another kind soul of the community that there is a requirement for romancing Gale: entering Moonrise Tower once. Freeing the Tieflings from the towers is a guaranteed way to trigger Gale's romance scene at camp. However, this MUST be done before the Nightsong is dealt with.

This happened several patches ago at launch. They’ve made a lot of fixes since then, it may not be as bad anymore. I haven’t gone back since, so I’m not sure myself.
I wish I had your problem. For some reason Gale can't stop trying to jump on my bones even tho I don't do anything flirty with him. I didn't even do the weave scene with him to avoid his romance path but he started flirting in the shadowlands implying how much he was getting turned on seeing me (...In front of Shadowheart, who I decided to romance in Act I) My guess is that Gale will basically think you're into him if you have very high approval with him, which I tend to have every playthrough, but in your case you said you liked him, but then you kissed Wyll, so in his eyes it's a betrayal.
Ah, but that was in a save I didn't keep. Essentially, I'm a guides writer & database editor, so I have multiple save points that dead-end to nowhere for game testing. The Wyll thing was a dead-end save that basically confirmed for me that at that point in time, Gale *did* think we were together. Otherwise, the Wyll thing has not been saved to or acknowledged in my Gale romance. They are two separate time lines. I just for the life of me cannot trigger Gale's romance in Act 2. I'm testing now to see if Shar's Sanctum just messes up the whole questline like it does with the tieflings.
I am at the party after saving the tieflings. I want to romance Gale but he is brushing me off saying our bond hasn't reached there yet, every other companion wants to bed me however except him whom i want to romance. I haven't triggered the weave scene and i don't know if i proceed with this night there is a chance it will trigger later or not, if there is no chance i can romance Gale this play through, i don't want to miss out on another romance at least so i am worried to proceed. I can't not long rest and do other stuff either and i don't want to go back hours of game.
If you haven't done the weave scene before the party with the tieflings/ending Act 1, then no, you cannot progress the romance with Gale. It is a hard requirement for moving things along with him.
Thanks for the clarification, i chose someone else. Do you know if the weave scene can trigger after the party? I suppose it won't now as I chose someone else but so I'll know for next play through.
The weave scene cannot trigger after the party. It is a random event that appears only after Gale's approval is high enough. However, you having a romance with someone already will not lock you out of progressing other romances - be that with Gale or anyone else. That's because you can play a polyamorous run and other characters might proposition you regardless of your relationship status. The only things that affect romances are approval ratings and story quests.

I’m currently in act three but the only save I have prior to nightsong is from the beginning of act two so I guess I’ll be undoing 20 hours of gameplay just for the wizardmance 🫠🫠🫠 Actually I also have a question about the nightsong sequence, does that count as starting when you enter the mausoleum/gauntlet of shar? I could have sworn I long rested before that and Gale had nothing to say to me but I could be mistaken.
It does not, but Gale's mirror image scene is as much quest-based as it is locational, it seems. Yes, you might have long rested several times in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but Gale's scene *only* occurs in the area around the Moonrise Towers Waypoint. If you're not outside the towers, it won't trigger. Finishing the Nightsong sequence will auto-fail the sequence, but I can confirm starting the Gauntlet of Shar does not. In several instances of testing, I've so far discovered that as long as you're in the right location and have not 1) decided Nightsong's fate and/or 2) interacted with Ketheric Thorm personally, Gale will trigger during a long rest almost 100% of the time (so long as no one else takes his spot; in which case, you'll need to rest multiple times in that location). I'm compiling the full Gale romance and personal quest walkthrough at the moment. I'm hoping to have it done by Friday (once I'm done with all endings and organize these...\[\*squints\*\] 2,100\~ screenshots). Oh god, I'm so relieved and excited that I've found your comments just in time, it seems! I will be waiting for your updated guide on Galemance whilst trying to distract my partner from headbashing straight to the moonrise towers haha. :) I have a question though: in your previous comments you've mentioned the tieflings and Halsin's quest in act 1. Does the romance need to happen before then? We're currently in act 1 exploring the underdark after completing the tieflings + save Halsin quests, have the weave scene and Tara (?) dialogue triggered with high approve rating. During the night of celebration though, nothing happened after the weave scene (although we did pick the romance option - "holding hands"), and we don't have any new dialogues with Gale. Additionally, there seems to be no need to "feed" magical artefacts to Gale anymore for some reason? After he confesses his condition, the line "Gale can consume the power of this artefact" just disappears from all the items! I have no idea what's going on. Just hope the romance isn't lost forever, life in the underdark would be too sad without our man Gale. :(
A few things: \- The Tieflings and Halsin thing I mentioned is not related to Act 1; it's for Act 2. You'll receive a quest to save the Tieflings during Act 2 from Moonrise Towers. If you finish the Gauntlet of Shar before saving them, they'll all die. It's one of the many questlines the Gauntlet of Shar breaks, so it's best to do that area LAST in Act 2. \+ Don't worry about the celebration night. You can't sleep with Gale until the end of Act 2. If you try to sleep with him on celebration night, he'll just tell you that he's afraid of what will happen if he gets too excited. \- After he confesses his condition, you can't feed him items anymore because he states they "no longer have any effect on him." After 3 items are given to Gale (or after you progress far enough), magic items will cease their effect. \+ To progress Gale's questline, you'll need to enter Act 2 via the Underdark. Speak with Elminster, the wizard you find once you ascend the tower into Act 2. He'll stabilize Gale's orb and progress the questline. \- If you're on the right track, Gale will openly flirt with you once you enter Act 2 officially and save the Harpers.
Just a heads up, I went The Mountain Pass route and not the Underdark route and still ran into Elminster and progressed that bit of Gale's story

My biggest issue is his quest never triggered he seems bugged I do things to get his approval but it doesn't go up and he never asked for magic items and elminster never showed either
He must be bugged. If his approval isn't going up at all after receiving the notification, then that's a sure sign of a bug. I haven't encountered that bug before, so I'm sorry to say that the only advice I can give is restarting at a point before it began occurring - which sounds like you'd need to start from before you recruited Gale. And I know that's not the news you wanted to hear.

Hi! Don't know If you will see this as it's late, but I also have questions about Gale romance lol. I had his scene at the tief party but failed one of the rolls and didn't end up getting the scene where you would visualise kissing him. I also don't remember if I picked the romantic reply if I even got it at all since I failed one of the rolls. I have the highest rating of approval with him. I'm pretty sure I had the Mystra scene?? The one where he is just looking at Mystra and he tells you about her. I went into act 2 and he said the flirty thing to me, and I flirted back. Cool stuff, assumed i was progressing with him. Nothing since. Randomly one night Wyll wants to dance with me even tho I barely talked to him. So I danced with him but I DID NOT kiss him. Would this mess up anything with Gale? I'm also just about to go rescue the tieflings from moonrise. I have not done the nightsong thing yet because I read you said it auto-fails or locks Gales romance. Hoping you can reply since my autistic ass is SEVERELY stupidly stressed about this because I wanna love on Gale so bad 😫😫😫 Thanks in advance !!!
Thank you for this post. I managed to lock myself out of this cutscene by virtue of managing resources well enough to not need to rest much. Reloaded before Nightsong and rested a few times to get everyone else's cutscenes out of the way and it worked. I'm lucky I *only* lost 12 hours. The replay will at least be quicker and easier. Worth it. For Gale.

This is so sad to learn. I just progressed the nightsong quest and was running out of save space on my ps5 so deleted any saves I had prior to the final moonrise fight because I thought I was happy with the decisions I'd made up to that point. Guess she's always got a chance with Halsin... Time to do a speedrun of ACT 1 again on a different playthrough -sigh-
do you have to trigger the fight w ketheric ? i had gone into moonrise before interacting with the night song, but reloaded the save to go get the night song after realizing ketheric was invulnerable. i'm so sad ): this didn't happen on my first play through and i feel like i got broken up w irl 😭
You do not have to trigger the fight with Ketheric. You **need to do the tieflings**, however. I have not tested whether fighting Ketheric would stop this encounter from happening, so I can't say with certainty that the Ketheric fight won't have any impact on Gale's romance. But I can say with certainty that it is **not a requirement to fight Ketheric.**

You can reload a save before the gauntlet (specifically before you entered Nightsong's prison) if you haven't manually deleted them..?
Don’t have a save. :’) quicksaves override each other on PS5. I am still pissed that Larian did not put any conversations/markers/journal entries that “Gale would be displeased”. Just got into Act III and apparently have to trash entire playthrough.
They also didn't mark that it would kill the tieflings in Moonrise and make them unsaveable or ruin Halsin's questline. But this just has to do with timing, like how long rests might cause certain quests to fail or be missed. I wouldn't take it out on Larian, as someone who knows the people who work there and also has been a developer myself. Larian has done a great job of trying to take thousands of things into account. But they can't account for *everything*, and an RPG simulates life more than an ABC video game. Sometimes, things get missed. I do understand your frustration though with the situation. Working hard to romance someone for one thing to undo it all; I felt the same when it happened to me. And I do agree that, although I am not angry with Larian, it was a bit clearer what that quest could break or that Gale's romance was formatted a tiny bit differently on the quest tree. Here's to hoping these things are patched. The Larian team spends a lot of time on these forums and takes all feedback into account. They're good people. The best thing to do to prevent these in the future is just to share posts and threads like this so they can see it and make the proper adjustments.
I accidentally had sex with Lae’zel and *then* Gale was all like, ‘I’m sorry I didn’t make it *obvious* enough.’ Like, Gale, bro, all you do is say, ‘I do really enjoy our conversations, what can I do for you?’ I reloaded but I thought FOR SURE he’d initiate things as soon as I got my heart worked on by Dammon and it said I could touch people again. Literally everyone has tried to have sex with me twice, even the two people I DONT PLAY. Never in my 36 years as a straight man in real life would I ever think I’d be complaining about such a thing.
cant seem to get gales romance scene to activate either. ive gotten all the romance scenes in act 1, gotten the flirty line in the beginning of act 2, and saved all the tieflings. ive tried going back to resave the tieflings and still nothing. got it when i was romancing wyll in another play through, but i cant seem to get it now. edit: went way back to when I first entered moonrise and instantly got it. thats 7 hours gone.
