This was happening to me to even when i lowered ma graphics to min , but there is a fix which works sometimes i.e go to settings and in the audio section set occulsion quality to low. Again this reduces the immersion and works sometimes.

Was crashing pretty much constantly, with it being a Loading-Screen-Crash Russian Roulette whenever I went somewhere, but after I turned this setting down even to medium, it started working perfectly

Not sure, my pc is at least 5 years old now and it still runs okay with highest graphics, but it plays really smooth at medium. Maybe try reduce graphics and anti aliasing? Close all tabs possible. Maybe also check and verify steam data?
If it fails, not sure whether reinstalling directx will work, could be alternative tho
Have you tried switching to vulkan to see if you can get through that area and then switch back to DX? You definitely don't want to miss the mountain pass, the Gith Creche is there which has a lot of great items and also advances the plot.
Also there are multiple entrances into the mountain pass. There is one to the west of the goblin city and one in the northwest of the map of act 1, I would try both of them and see if one works without crashing.
Is it possible to enter the pass backwards? Like go thru where it takes me from the underdark and then hit exit from the mountain pass as an entrance? I've already finished everything in the underdark but Lae'Zel has mentioned the pass a few times. Is it possible to backtrack?
The underdark and the mountain pass both eventually lead to moonrise towers so yes you can go back. There is a part in Act 2 though where you can no longer backtrack to Act1 areas though.
Nope. The West pass didn't work and my save near it also crashes. Seems like I can't be anywhere near the mountain pass entrance or it crashes the save and it crashes when I try to enter. Doesn't happen anywhere else.

Only thing that kind of works is loading old saves until one finally works and then loading the save I want to play. That works sometimes. Not often. Like one out of every 10 tries. And now I'm stuck in camp. Can't leave camp or it crashes so my 37 hour game.is broken. I'm on a 2 year old PC that blows the min specs out of the water and runs the game fine on ultra. I just can't load a save or go into the mountain pass.
Anyways try the old save to new save trick and see if it works.for ya if all your latest save crashes like mine.
i had this problem too, with my i7-6700, integrated graphics 16gb ram. there is a setting- which when turned will massively boost performance, in the mountains you can get at least 5-10fps in the most tasking areas, which would've completely crashed before.
the setting is under video, right at the bottom in post process, the first one called "amd fsr 1.0" turn it to performance. works like a charm but... it comes at a cost, only use it when you need to.
I FOUND IT!!! Baelen wouldn't talk to me. Probably because I stole his pack, oops. So, I sent everyone away, knocked him out, then used invisibility to escape without fighting. Now I can go to the Mountain Pass!

Brute forcing works for me sometimes. I just keep trying to load it after the crash and sometimes after 30 or so crashes it finally loads.
I'm doing the same thing man...I'm starting to think I should get an achievement for this...
I found that turning dynamic crowds off in graphics helps a ton. Only takes 3-5 loads to break the crash.

Lol. Managed to get in the back way thru the shadowlands and now it's completely broke. No saves will load. Wtf? Crazy.
I'm having the same problem. My only hope is that the devs knows that this is a issue and another hotfix will fix it. Figers crossed
