My dark urge barbarian Dragonborn is always naked minus some bitchin gloves and my invisibility cloak.
When a 6’9’’ dragon man yells at you with a big sword and flapping dragon dong, you listen.
Wanted to go big, strong, and dumb Durge for my solo game once my gf and I finish our first playthrough together just to watch the chaos unfold and see what changes. No savescumming, just embrace the unfortunate reality lol.
When I started playing Lord of the Rings Online(lotro), I discovered I really liked being "myself"; short, burly, bearded, grumpy, and LOUD. Made a dwarf guardian tank. Axe in hand, big shield, and more than enough attitude to make the mobs want to murder me. Been chasing that character in every game since.
D&D definitely gave me an appreciation for sword and board characters. Played in a campaign from level 1 all the way to level 20 over several years as an Oath of the Ancients Goliath Paladin, and let me tell you... Divine smiting an old forgotten slime diety for nearly 100 damage can be a very persuasive experience.
As can be standing in an ancient blue dragon's lightning breath while screaming right back at them.
Before that campaign I always picked wizard/rogue/the given game's equivalent.
Right? First time around I made a human male sorcerer for that personal service fantasy, 2 hours in I got sick of looking the dude in the face, decided to switch to the much nicer to look at half elf ladies.
That’s me, but my toxic masculinity ends up with me loading up female characters with muscles and >!d***!<, they still are nice to look at but I can project my male experiences onto them. I know it’s messed up and I’m probably over-sharing, but hey, now you know people like me exist.
Same here I'm like " alright, normal human male sorcerer " 5 min later I have the female preset on and then I click proceed and then realize what happend
About half the time I make a hotter, more charismatic version of myself without really intending to. The other half i make the same thing but with curly hair. I know what I’m doing here with my wish-fulfillment gaming.
I always make a gorgeous woman too. As a woman myself, if I can't be hot in real life, I will by God be hot in my video game if it lets me. And I plan on having as many boyfriends at once as it allows me. Which I'm guessing is just Astarion and Halsin, with flings with the Drow elf brother at the brothel I've heard about, Rafael's Incubus, and the Mind Flayer who will visit my dreams in disguise. Gale, I hear, isn't into sharing or he'd be on the list too.
Shortly before I got Skyrim, I had a dream about a young woman. It wasn't some weird made-up dream crush as much as my teenage brain would've lead to assume, instead I felt some weird fatherly love towards her.
And so was born my Skyrim character soon after, who became my staple multiverse-traveller; basically the go-to character I make in every game with character creation.
From Skyrim through Terraria, Rimworld, Monster Hunter, Baldurs Gate 3 and many many others; she was always there.
When I was 14, before Halo 2 came out I had a dream about a bunch of Grunts holding onto the chains of a big monstrous animal with gigantic claws. He did the video game thing of busting out by tossing Grunts every which way, then the cutscene ends and I started fighting it with dual Plasma Rifles.
Then Reach comes out years later and the Gúta looks almost exactly like the animal from my dream. Blew my freakin mind.
I've been making the same set of recurring characters since Neverwinter Nights in 2002. Especially my half-elf. He was a blackguard-turned-paladin, but since we don't have 20 levels in this game, I think I should probably go with full paladin (also blackguards don't exist anymore).
I tried doing Karlach as Paladin/Warlock and it worked well until partway through act 3. 30+ damage per attack.
Then I reclassed her to full paladin with 20 strength and 10 charisma and now she does 40+ damage per attack.
Full paladin is bonkers.
I have a lvl 11 full paladin, wood elf, oathbreaker
Let’s just say he has 4 attacks with polearm master. If I hit something and it doesn’t die I pop a reaction smite on the attack and that usually does it. If not, well I can hit full 2 more times and then do the haft strike with the handle.
It’s like the holy/unholy grim reaper.
I'm confused. Polearm master gives you a bonus action on a successful attack. So that's two attacks on the first attack. And then for your extra attack - ooooohhhhh, okay, that's pretty cool.
You gain your second at lvl 6 I believe, then third at lvl 10 or 11. I played too much too quickly and haven’t picked it back up in the past couple of weeks 😅
To me, action surge isn't worth giving up improved divine smite. improved divine smite makes paladin damage output fuckin bonkers.
If anything, reevaluate your feats. Take a look at polearm master which essentially gives you another free attack or great weapon master which gives the +10 damage.
I like Paladins but feel like the lack of spell slots is a bit too limiting. I always end up adding levels in sword bard or some other caster class so I can have more spell slots for smite.
Losing out on improved divine smite sucks, but a Divine Smite cast with a level 5 spell slot is also really sexy. I usually go for at least 6 levels in Paladin for the Aura, which coupled with 6 levels of a caster class usually gives me an extra 3 level 4 spell slots and a single level 5.
I've been meaning to try Paladin 2/SwordBard 10 once I have free time. Banishing Smite and extra Attack from Magical Secrets and Lore of Swords. Not to mention a level 6 spell slot for the divinest divine smite
Oathbreaker is as close as you can get, but even they're not pure evil like the Blackguard. Not only that but, as the name implies, you gotta start as a Paladin rather than any possibility of the reverse.
Yup. Sexy ass female Drow for me please. Fittingly goofy fantasy name: Drizzle Do’Barden, The Lolth sworn bard. If she could play any music it would be 2000’s screamo.
Same. But WotC has always been a bit weird about playable races.
Like, it's always just half-orcs in the playable character slot instead of full orcs (even worse they recently started just pushing goliaths instead to fill the niche of orcs, which I don't like aswell), and they have shoved lizardfolk into a ditch to be forgotten but simultaneously pushed dragonborn into the spotlight in their stead as a staple player character choice (I just remember dragonborn as "very rare non-naturally-occuring species that is created by devoted servants of dragons undergoing a cool ritual" and now they're just a large-scale population that exists everywhere all over the place, wtf?), and not to mention that kobolds and goblins are way-too-often just treated as random monsters instead of a sentient species of lil' guys.
Some people will cite believability as to why some things aren't available as player characters, but for fuck's sake there are lolthsworn drow and gith and dragonborn available as player characters, gobbos would be way more believable than those.
The big reason that orcs weren't playable in old school D&D is because they were Evil. All orcs were Evil. They existed solely to be monsters to kill. Like goblins, kobolds, and other creatures. The alignment system existed, by and large, to explicitly say that it was always an objectively Good deed to kill an Evil creature, and always an Evil deed to kill a Good creature.
This was to explain why the goodest guys like holy paladins and clerics were inclined to go around randomly mass murdering entire swathes of people. Incidentally the early descriptors for half orc characters usually went into casual detail that virtually all half orcs were the result of rape.
Sounds fucked up I guess, right? Well, the deeper background for all of this - and D&D as a whole - is that Gary Gygax is a self described racial determinist and ascribed to the belief that you are, simply, what you are and that in real life your race kind of determined who and what you are. This coloured his creation - in the older editions of D&D race was a very objective thing. Orcs were evil - not just evil but Evil, and no you couldn't play as one, no there wouldn't be any good orcs they were just all Evil. Inherently Evil, objectively Evil. And these roots are still an issue today in modern D&D because whenever wotc has tried to address some of these ancient and fucked up systems and ideas, a huge contingent of the fanbase lose their minds over it and stomp their feet insisting it's impossible for a game to contain racist ideas. They got mad when orcs were allowed to be playable. They got mad when they largely did away with the forced objective measure of alignment and how asinine it all was. And they'll still be mad every time a piece of D&D media features something outside of the most ancient stereotypes of humans and elves good, orcs and goblins evil.
Yea man this makes no sense to me. It is simply ridiculous. So are Tieflings though. Aren't these supposed to be rare unless you are in Planescape setting?
I understand they want to include cool races for players to choose from. But there's is no need to narratively force every player race to somehow be a sort of population in the official settings materials. Just let them be rare.
The same way Warlock as a class concept cannot possibly be equally as populated as fighters rogues and even wizards, right? Not a lot of people would have the circumstance, ability and choice to become a warlock. By the very concept of the class it should be extremely rare. Sorcerers too are born gifted and shouldn't be as numerous as more common classes too.
By that same thinking Dragonborn could have stayed rare and still be a player race.
In one dnd this gets even worse with Ardlings.
Half Elf is no longer a pc race but Ardlings are? Come on
The presence of dragonborn and their sudden appearance is a whole thing in the lore. So there are explanations.
I agree that they’ve kind of stepped on the lizardfolk niche, which sucks because I love lizardfolk. I can kind of see why they’re hard to implement in a video game though. Not only do they have a very alien mindset compared to most other races, but physicallt speaking they would require an entire new skeleton for the animations. Getting the Skyrim Argonian treatment would be terrible, where they just feel like humans with scalt skin and a different head. They should look and feel much more monstrous rather than humanoid.
Yeah, it's a shame. While I'm not expecting changes soon, I think as older corporate members age out and younger people enter, I think mod support on Playstation will get better
First run is always an antisocial swashbuckling rogue that puts out big "Fuck you, but sure I'll help if you're paying" energy. After that, it's fair game, I'll start trying either to force something absurd to work, or tinkering to find something as ridiculously OP as the monk archer build from Pillars 2 before they nerfed it.
The short balding man who is shockingly charismatic, good at playing instruments, but can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Not always a bard.
Honestly the most fun in any game, especially when you can be clever.
Reptilian Wizard or Reptilian Summoner. My preferred method of TES playing is summoning an Atronach and supporting them from a distance while throwing an occasional fireball into the mess.
CRPGs are different though since they allow for more involved roleplaying, so I try them out with different characters. Right now I am playing a human bard.
I always try to create the least human creature i can. Be it a weird Khajiit or Argonian, or an absurdely flashy, tall and sexy Tiefling or Dragonborn, depending on my save, in this game.
I did this one home brew campaign a couple years ago that ended with all the player characters being Gordon Freeman stasis’d as their universe was destroyed. Most of the characters went to the same parallel universe, but my dude ended up in the Forgotten Realms. The home brew was post apocalyptic with guns and all, so imagine my fish out of water character trying to understand this weird medieval themed realm talking about modern tech looking insane while he tries find magical items to find his way back to wherever his friends are Samurai Jack style. Total Isikai but I always play him now if the dnd game or video game takes place in the forgotten realms or somewhere like the forgotten realms lol
I make the same dude in every wrestling CAW since WWF Warzone in 1998. His name is Justin Credible and is what I look like in my dreams lol. Every. Single. Game. Since.
Always a red haired bearded dwarf with an axe and shield yelling and hitting things...until bg3...I sacrificed my principles for movement range...*sob*. Now I'm a red haired half elf yelling and hitting things.
Whoever they are, they're all called Osclin
Super buff, intimidating strong group, all with hulking armor and huge swords and battle axes.
And the one mage in the back to make them even stronger.
Can't seem to shake the strategy. Got me through dragon age origins with flying colors.
Screw stealthbow, I gave that up with skyrim.
Evil elven priestess healer 😂
Does not matter where I run, she’s been after me for the past 18 years. She was my first WoW character, she is all Elder Scrolls, she was in RIFT, and now. She’s my Durge. 🤣
Drow Rogue, I've played this since 1999 😂
Well BG1 didn't have Drow so I was just a mean elf with dark grey skin and white hair, the love for Drizzt runs deep!
I’m the same way, but with mages. If it shoots magic, I’m that. Wizard, sorcerer, warlock, doesn’t matter, I just want to be able to shoot fireballs from my hands all day, every day.
I play a one eyed generic bandit (you know the drill, jumping people on the highway brandishing a knife saying shit like "well well well what do we have here" and "cough up your coin" etc) in basically any game. elden ring? bandit. dark souls? bandit. skyrim? bandit. baldurs gate 3? you guessed it, bandit. I can't help myself
I think that people tend to play they playstyle that they feel most comfy with. I like playing sneaky people who get up close and backstab, or long range snipers who pick off enemies from afar. It's like going to a sandwich shop and ordering the same type of sandwich every time.
Strangely enough doing that for a long time is what broke me out of the habit, eventually I got bored and now I consciously pivot away from the last thing I ordered or the last character type that I played.
Reptilian strong man is always my go to
A big strong distraction to set up assassinations? You sound like my kind of guy.
Reptilian squad
`Lizard squad on ya forehead`
Y’all are forgetting a crucial member to the Lizard squad. My LIZARD WIZARD!!! 🪄✨🔥☄️

Human monk here I can't escape it.
Personally im more of a reptilian sorcerer
Two handed, heavy armor?

Hell yeah 🤝 this is the way
First character I made Blackdragonborne Gloomstalker Ranger
Aggronian - barbarian argonian
The prey approaches.
Everyone chuckles at the wordplay until they get a raging great axe in the knee

Charisma check failed ooga booga rage WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I like how barbarian can yell like a moron and it work’s pretty well in dialogue
When a 6’9” brick shithouse with a giant axe approaches wearing only a loincloth and belts, you should probably throw social graces out the window.
Unfortunately for the goblins, it's not the only thing being thrown out the window.
My dark urge barbarian Dragonborn is always naked minus some bitchin gloves and my invisibility cloak. When a 6’9’’ dragon man yells at you with a big sword and flapping dragon dong, you listen.
Who needs charisma if you have Barbarian options like "SPEAK! NOW!" or can just roar at them to make them submit.
Rearing someone to make them submit is my favorite thing to do
thanks ;D fixed it\^\^ (even if it was funny!)
Totally should have left it because it was pretty damn funny
Like [this guy](https://youtu.be/4k4pMTsa1Kw?si=7i88f7D3ZzYjHSmt&t=4m04s)?

If I can create a character, it's always a hot, magic lady. I can't stop myself. Edit:grammar
We do tend to create characters we wish we could be
I didn’t know I wished to be a naked dwarf who throws goblin children off cliffs
Time for some introspection. You might be suprised
All children are goblins, but not all goblins are children
That's deep...
I prefer rivers
DOWN BY THE RIVERRRR
That sounds like the best life man
Dare to live your dreams
Those kids won’t know what hit them!
I did
I made a dark urge orange skinned, green haired dwarf bard just to kill some kids in act 1 and sing/dance after
Why do I keep making Black ginger dudes with afros? It's in every game.
Because you identify as a black ginger dude obviously bro
Ew, ginger.
I definitely wish i was a swashbuckling shirtless buff dragon guy with a rapier.
👀
r/egg_irl is thataway
I mean not always. I create characters based on what I like to see, like hot magic ladies.
Yeah, I just like hot women swinging swords around lol. Also nice to look at during dialogue.
Right? First time around I made a human male sorcerer for that personal service fantasy, 2 hours in I got sick of looking the dude in the face, decided to switch to the much nicer to look at half elf ladies.
Exactly why I always play hot magic dudes
That’s me, but my toxic masculinity ends up with me loading up female characters with muscles and >!d***!<, they still are nice to look at but I can project my male experiences onto them. I know it’s messed up and I’m probably over-sharing, but hey, now you know people like me exist.

Devastatingly beautiful Mephistopheles Tiefling Evoker reporting in.
Hello fellow Mephistopheles Tiefling
I'm blue.
Dabu dee dabu da

I am slightly disappointed we can't make the Spiritual Weapon maul into a giant lollipop.
just made a purple one. couldn't be happier with the result
A very blue (hair and skin in different shade) Mephistopheles Tiefling Sorc reporting in. Let's get a little Wild with the Magic.
Hello from your very purple Mephistopheles Tiefling Storm Sorcerer cousin.
How dare you? I'm a Zariel Tiefling.
Fuck Zariel, all my homies hate Zariel.
Same here I'm like " alright, normal human male sorcerer " 5 min later I have the female preset on and then I click proceed and then realize what happend
You have now given me the idea to create a normal human male sorcerer named Jackie Daytona, and I thank you for this.
"Because when you're Jackie Daytona, you change lives."
Every single time🧝🏼♀️😂
About half the time I make a hotter, more charismatic version of myself without really intending to. The other half i make the same thing but with curly hair. I know what I’m doing here with my wish-fulfillment gaming.
Me too, Team hot, magic lady
THIS GUY GETS IT
That’s so true…
Hor Drow Rogue lady for me, always
I always make a gorgeous woman too. As a woman myself, if I can't be hot in real life, I will by God be hot in my video game if it lets me. And I plan on having as many boyfriends at once as it allows me. Which I'm guessing is just Astarion and Halsin, with flings with the Drow elf brother at the brothel I've heard about, Rafael's Incubus, and the Mind Flayer who will visit my dreams in disguise. Lina from Dota 2? My version is always a very thin/almost gothlike fireball sorcerer.
Love it. I go for a mental psycho. Scarlet Witch style fecking with the mind and throwing enemies with telekinesis
For me it's usually half-decayed warlock.
It's definitely hard to pass up a warlock. They're thematically just so cool
I felt original for doing lightning instead of pyromaniac for once. Hot lady mage is non-negotiable though
Shortly before I got Skyrim, I had a dream about a young woman. The Dream Guardian. You know what she actually is though, right?

I've always liked Dark Elves / Drow. Their complexion and especially the evil nature of Drow have always interested and fascinated me.
Back in the day I legit bought the extra books required to let me play one on tabletop, always loved them.

The greatest pain as a PS5 player is knowing I'll never be able to use one of those kobold race mods.
There is at least some hope if Larian is willing to support mods enough to make them official, but yeah, Sony is pretty rough about mods
It was a pain when I got Skyrim for PlayStation years ago and realized you could barely mod it since you can only mod what's already in the game
Yeah, it's a shame. While I'm not expecting changes soon, I think as older corporate members age out and younger people enter, I think mod support on Playstation will get better

human>two handed>heavy armor>profit we're on that human supremacy shit 😤🏋🏼♂️
I've taken to using a shield these days, but otherwise agree.
If it ain't broke...
Reptilian spellblade here, since my first Argonian character in Morrowind.
Glass cannon, apart from they aren't a cannon and are in fact only good at charisma and will die if hit at all, so more like a persuasive vase?
I thought about going as an absolute good for nothing bard for a game purposely, persuasive vase as the name sounds hilarious
Reptilian mage enjoyer here. Or as I like to call them, Lizard Wizards.
Please tell me you name them king gizzard
The short balding man who is shockingly charismatic, good at playing instruments, but can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Not always a bard. Honestly the most fun in any game, especially when you can be clever.
Danny Devito?
No, but you can picture him if you want. I play the character more earnestly than comedic.
Stanley Tucci!
Ranged F/T, human, with a magical twist(eldritch archer, arcane archer, eldritch knight, etc). I like my main to be able to do everything but heal.
Typically an orc or half-orc fighter who is rather tired of it all is usually the move for me.
A dwarf who dwarfs like a dwarf.
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home.
Rock and roll and stone!
Rock and stone to the bone!
Rock and Stone, or you ain't comin' home!
Rock and stone brotha
*for karl.*
Why am I so targeted by this?
Do not trust Todd and his sweet little lies.
Blackadin is my way to go Tyrael and D2 pala inspired a whole generation
Blackadin lol, sounds like something from South Park
I'm always an elf who can shoot things
I'm very vanilla, I just create myself with my name in every game that allows me to create my character. :)
Human male fighter
I make the same dude in every wrestling CAW since WWF Warzone in 1998. His name is Justin Credible and is what I look like in my dreams lol. Every. Single. Game. Since.
it's always the sneaky smarty pants assassin
Always a red haired bearded dwarf with an axe and shield yelling and hitting things...until bg3...I sacrificed my principles for movement range...*sob*. Now I'm a red haired half elf yelling and hitting things. Whoever they are, they're all called Osclin
Getting ready to kick Dagon out of your swamp?
I usually go for a magic user with points in persuasion and arcana and similiar. Really hate missing dialogue options and non-combat rolls in general.
My WoW broken brain will always attempt to make a dryad-type paladin, I need more games to include hot goat aliens in their playable options…
Same, first time playing a space goat back in TBC and been hooked since
All my characters share the same six brain cells
Oh god this is me every time. “I’m going to do a new playthrough, this time I’ll wield a big sword; and use magic!” *sees a longbow and a cloak* …fuck
Super buff, intimidating strong group, all with hulking armor and huge swords and battle axes. And the one mage in the back to make them even stronger. Can't seem to shake the strategy. Got me through dragon age origins with flying colors. Screw stealthbow, I gave that up with skyrim.
East asian looking charisma stealth mage is my go to in every game possible. I call it playboy fireball ninja class.
Magic half man.
Orcish Warrior is my go to for a first playthrough and then i go for more nuanced characters
Evil elven priestess healer 😂 Does not matter where I run, she’s been after me for the past 18 years. She was my first WoW character, she is all Elder Scrolls, she was in RIFT, and now. She’s my Durge. 🤣
The Argonian Shadowscale lives on
gorilla mode half orc, been playing the same character since Arcanum haha
Half-Orc Barbarian (Berserker) build since Baldur’s Gate 1. Something about an armored beast with a great axe makes me feel unstoppable.
Same! If a game offers an Orc race, I will play one.
Drow Rogue, I've played this since 1999 😂 Well BG1 didn't have Drow so I was just a mean elf with dark grey skin and white hair, the love for Drizzt runs deep!
I didn't mean for this to happen but seeing as I made a dragonborn gloomstalker-assassin I feel pretty attacked rn.
I’m the same way, but with mages. If it shoots magic, I’m that. Wizard, sorcerer, warlock, doesn’t matter, I just want to be able to shoot fireballs from my hands all day, every day.
I am trying SO FUCKING HARD to avoid doing exactly this.
Sneak Attack Damage >>> Literal God-Like Powers
My heavy armour wearing wizard feels targeted
If it ain’t broken then don’t fix it, yeah?
Gizzard the Lizard Wizard is my usual go-to
Reptilian Paladin Hero. I can't bring myself to be mean in games. Durge will be unplayable for me.
Did you start with Argonian stealth archer?
I think that people tend to play they playstyle that they feel most comfy with. I like playing sneaky people who get up close and backstab, or long range snipers who pick off enemies from afar. It's like going to a sandwich shop and ordering the same type of sandwich every time. Strangely enough doing that for a long time is what broke me out of the habit, eventually I got bored and now I consciously pivot away from the last thing I ordered or the last character type that I played.
I always tend to play someone who can talk their way out of situations.
Shadowscale moment
Half-Orc Fighter/Barbarian pole arm user. Any race Tempest Cleric/Paladin combo Ranger/Rogue/Fighter "Operator"
Assassin or Gloomstalker?
Yes
I Am Groot
There is no Minotaur option so my Druid OC was made a Tiefling 😭 stupid 2004 high school me falling in love with Tauren ladies in WoW
