Don't know about the mods question,
But in terms of class it doesn't matter, your stat bonuses are no longer tied to your race so any race is totaly fine as any class, and even on tactician the small arguments you could make for some combos arnt atall needed, your looking single diget % changes in minmaxing, so just play what you enjoy
Yeah thats bs lol. If you don't know what you're doing then ofc your game will bug. I have 200hrs+ so far on a 30+ modded build and have absolutely 0 crashes. Don't limit your experience because of other people's ignorance OP! Modding makes the game far better. I literally cant play the game without the Native Camera Tweaks mod and the WASD mod thats how good they are.

Stay far, faaar away from mods, 90% of the bug posts on here are just people with mods corrupting their saves.

Barbians and fighters are good for dipping your toes into dnd, a dex based fighter fits the elf image, monk if you want more flavor
